Looking for [Co-Op & Party Games on the PS3] - I just got mine!

Yeah, a little late to the party.

My brother just regifted a PS3 to me (he's got kids and acquired a Wii this year), and while I'm looking forward to Metal Gear and Final Fantasy and a few other violence and plot line heavy titles, what I'm interested in spending my money on this year are party and/or co-op (from the couch) with-the-wife type games.

She's not entirely adverse to violence or action (she played WoW), but prefers lighter fair generally. More in the Popcap vibe of Bejeweled, or even better Plants Vs. Zombies. Or are there any Mario Party type games out there for the PS3?

The only thing I've spied with a bit of searching was Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Has anyone tried this one out? 20 bucks is great, but I was hoping for something a little more modern (3D?) and pretty - though redone, the screens look pretty nice.

Anyway, TIA for anything anyone has played and liked a lot.

Editing to add: Katamari Forever looks like it actually uses the PS3, but is it fun? I've never played a Katamari game, can anyone tell me what its like or link to a good co-op video (I'm still looking on YouTube).

pixeljunk monsters. co-op, easy to pick up but hard to master - i've put more hours into it with my girlfriend than almost anything i've played on my own

although any of the pixeljunk games are fantastic multiplayer fun

if you like puzzlers, play critter crunch. if you're into quiz sort of stuff, buzz is the best in the genre

the psn has a huge trove of cheap, casualish-but-terrific games perfect for an evening with a few beers and a friend or two

The only real game I can get my wife into is LittleBigPlanet. She might also be into PixelJunk: Monsters, but that's only if she likes Tower Defense games.

Another vote for PixelJunk: Monsters. And if she digs tower defense, give Comet Crash a try too.

The recently released PixelJunk: Shooter has also been getting a lot of praise, so if you're looking for something more action-oriented it's worth a shot.

PixelJunk Monsters and Shooter definately. If she is decent at platforming type games then try PixelJunk Eden as well.
Also Magic Ball is a coop arkenoid that is also fun with wife/gf but its over quick.

LittleBigPlanet is also good coop fun, though my wife had no interest in the community levels so for her the game was rather short. (Did really like the story ones though)

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
