Anyway, this all seems to be an indication that SA Labor is trying to reinvent themselves. There was a huge swing against them (in Croydon it was a 14.3% swing, which is fucking huge), so they know they need to change else they'll lose next time.

I think a more progressive A-G is likely. Aktinson was never called on his shit because he carried a lot of clout, and his decisions were often influenced more by his religion than his party policies. I think change is very likely. More so than if the liberals had won, IMO.

Michael Atkinson unexpectedly announced this morning that he will be stepping down from his Attorney-General position to retire to the South Australian back bench. The announcement was made at 10.45am this morning by Atkinson outside the church he attends.

    Awesome! Congratulations, Aussies!

I hope his replacement is less crazy. Well, yeah, that might be like saying "I hope the sun rises in the East tomorrow," but I mean a lot less crazy. Like, rational human being maybe.

Then again his replacement will be a politician of some sort, so I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

    YES.

Absolutely brilliant. A side effect that hasn't been mentioned yet is that a change in A-G means reshuffling the order in which they'll deal with business at their next meeting. Odds are that the R18 legislation will probably be pushed forward to the very next meeting now, as it just lost it's main opposition.

I wonder if this means they'll also abolish the law in SA that requires R18 movies to either be placed in a sectioned off part of a store, or else have plain text jackets. That was Atkinson's brainchild as well.

Depends upon how many others in the Labour party actually share his views. He was always supposed to be the nuttiest of them though. This is completely disregarding the fact that technically, the Libs can still take government; a record amount of postal votes means the election actually won't be finalised till midweek, and it's so close that it actually hangs in the balance.

I really doubt that this will impact federal labor at all.

    Unfortunately.

God censorship makes me want to quit the army, not really willing to die for something I am exceedingly against.

So what are the chances that Atkinson's replacement won't be crazy?

Also, has Gamers4croydon made a statement yet on Atkinson stepping down. He was the one who issued to challenge to run for his seat, and now he just backs down.

I'm curious to see who replaces Atkinson. I doubt they'll be a radical change, but Atkinson did take the issue very personally.

    Maybe not, cooljammer.

As the article mentions, this doesn't guarantee a change to the classification system, but it is a good start.
