After looking at the achievements more, there seems to be a lot of equivalents between the two, such as assist 10 times with your own class, revenge with the new melee weapon, sticky/rocket jump really high/far, get a melee kill mid rocket/sticky jump, and kill 500 of the opposing class. Both sides seem to have some real easy achievements thankfully. Of course, the achievements will be somewhat pointless if people figure out how to craft the new weapons within the first few days using current stuff. Which I hope they do, farming achievements to get weapons has always seemed silly to me.
I don't think you'd have to farm achievements to get any weapons. In the Sniper vs. Spy update you got weapons at 5/10/15 achievements and as you pointed out, there's a fair amount of easy ones.
Scottish Resistance is the very last weapon I wanted the demo to have.
Hooray, yet more stickies around bases!
Yes, but they have to be looking at them to set them off. They can't explode them when they don't have line of site, unlike their current launcher.
Demos will also be hurting in the close range department with the resistance since it has a longer det setup, no more pogo jumping while laying stickies at people's feet. Of course, they'll have the option of using a sword for their melee to boost close range damage but they'd also be gimping their health. I don't think it'll be that bad and I look forward to laying multiple krit traps in setup then detonating them sequentially as they rush out. Only thing I'm displeased about in tonight's blog update is that there's a soldier achievement for using a hand grenade and I was hoping they would keep grenades to the damn demoman. It's possible that it's just a taunt kill or something but it still makes me nervous. I'm betting that the update was planned from the beginning to be a tie, so that both classes get the fourth gun. Sneaky ass valve.
You cowards. I'll charge in past these damn stickies and lob th'heads offa any sod meanin' t' get in m' way while yer takin' turns pissin' yerselves from the safety 'f yer warm, cozy base.

Good point, I had forgotten they had lowered the requirements for the weapons. I'm still used to the old style of getting 22 or however much it was for the final upgraded. There will still be achievement box servers simply for getting the weapons ASAP. I can already see a bomb cart that goes in a circle, never capping, in my mind...
Kind of intrigued about the fact the demoman gets stuck with his old grenade launcher at all times, but the soldier can replace all of his if he wants to. At least its easy enough to swap weapons now, so going from a melee demo on offense to a Scottish Resistance demo on defense would be quick. Anyone know if there is a way to bind a complete set swap, or would it have to be done piece by piece in either the quick menu or the full inventory menu?

really the only class I'd say needs a do over is heavy
Scout doesn't count because he doesn't need any help being an annoying little asshole

Don't forget all the beta items Valve has been testing in the backgrounds, we could see them this update.

Oh man, I had forgotten about the speedy gloves. I hope they do include them and the PDQ.
I imagine that anything beyond what the classes have now in the way of weapons will be used for crafting blueprints. That's where I bet the beta items end up.

This might be true for a lot of engineers, but not all of them
If you are an engineer fighting out of sight of your sentry, even if its a level 1 you just placed there. I submit that you are probably doing it wrong, and an easy kill. :P

I think the pyro still has his niche despite what people are saying. I will say that the backburner just needs to be removed. or give it the health boost back or do something with the damn thing. I played on a server recently that had the backburner disabled no matter how many times you tried to equip it and I think that is the most hilarious/saddest shit ever.

The backburner is only useful if there's people on the team that just do not pay attention to anything. I've seen Toons run around barely to the side of people and wondered how he didn't die.
And the flare gun is pretty weak compared to the shotgun, considering the low damage and fire rate.
Wait what? Today's numbers are 5,727,928 DEAD SOLDIERS (ie Demoman's score) vs 5,742,720 DEAD DEMOS (ie Soldier score). Whatever way you look at it Sollies are still leading. The boost today is a little suspicious, but well within acceptable tolerance.

you gotta think though, what could they have given pyro other than a flare gun? (inb4 "anything else") I guess some sort of fire mine? But that sort of thing isn't the pyro's schtick

I think those figures are sans Poster-contest points.
Basically the Demomen would be winning had it not been for the contest.

You have this gun that does massive damage up close and plink damage at range and a a new gun that does plink damage, fires slower, and is basically a long range, hard-to-hit-with flamethrower. I think if they decreased the afterburn time and made it do more upfront damage, maybe give a boost to the flamethrower somehow, it'd be better.

Gas can. Hold fire to pour it on the ground as you run, when it gets lit up the fire spreads along where you put it until it burns out. Maybe allow the pyro to hit secondary fire to throw the can, and it blows up when the fire reaches it, spreading fire with the spread size depending on how much gas is left in the can.

A launcher of some sort.
Maybe involving some sort of long burning liquid-gel like substance.

no, about half as many but they'll do the job of the full load.
the other half are going to be laid out around your spawn points.

Except for the whole needing line of sight to detonate them thing.

Would it just be like the universal hats where anyone can equip it, or would you need a seperate specific gun for each character?
It'd be nice to essentially get two unlocks for the price of one.
Zissou server will be rotating basically the same rotation over this update like it did tonight unless any new maps are released.

Shit, I didn't think about that.
Indeed, the pyro is an annoying little asshole.
