Hey what's with that beardless roegrim [sp] (galka) in the miner picture!? I was so looking forward to playing a galka again, but not if they're a bunch of beardless pansies! :v:
The Marauder above it has a beard. SE have just given a lot more character customisation options. Hoping for bearded taru's myself.
Just sent in my application. The one question that struck me as odd was "how would you rate your enthusiasm for the Final Fantasy series?". I just can't figure out if it is weighed into the picking process at all. Seems silly that it would, yet pretty useless if it doesn't. I put 78 and to hell with the consequences!
I made my wife promise to play this with me. Good times ahead!
Don't think it be easy for you.
Since u will need 2x BETA account.
Or he can, you know, play the real game when it comes out.
Hehe, yeah, I'm not holding my breath for a beta key, I'm just looking forward to this coming out.
Wifey and I played WoW for a bit, but she came in way later than me and I was already burnt out by then. I have fond memories for FFXI, I loved the setting, the presentation and became really close with my linkshell, but ultimately couldn't stand having to wait in Jeuno for an hour waiting for a group to be able to do anything. Promises of solo and smaller group friendly content has me all atwitter.
the sign up on the Site is PC only. To sign up on the PS3 you need to have bought FFXIII and registered it on their site. then they give you a code you can enter to sign up for the PS3 beta.
However you may only sign up for one or the other. An application to both will erase the older application.

I got one of them little code things in my 360 copy of FF13 I went to the site and it said the code was invalid. I did this literally within the hour of getting the game so I figured the code might have not been valid yet
The second yes doesn't answer the either or question. It wasn't a yes or not question. Yes I can sign up for PS3 or yes it's PC only?
I thought it was pretty clear, it was hardly a "should I take chocolate or vanilla" question. Apparently my answer was wrong anyway though, so my it was doubly useless! I was sure I saw an option about signing up to the PS3 version somewhere in there, but I guess I misunderstood things.

Don't copy paste it, type it in. It cuts off the last 4 letters due to the spaces.
I noticed that as well, they also describe it have different stances and the combat as a whole being more about position and maintaining your positioning than just hack and slash.
I think there was a comment about how instead of the traditional "Pull monster to party" style of battle this would focus more on bringing the fight to the enemy and going frmo enemy camp to camp.
The lack of natural MP regeneration in interesting as well. It seems you'll basically have to budget your mp and pace yourself over the course of a few battles before using some sort of ability or crystal to regen it.

I have yet to see a game that succeeded in preventing the players from pulling monsters one at a time, because AI behaviors are universally stupid.

Yeah, players will figure out what style of play yields the most XP and is the safest and use that, they don't care what the dev's intended play style was.

Well.
They could be linked.
From how they are spinning it it seems like the monsters will roam in parties just like you're own party and will attempt to use similar positioning tactics to optimize their own damage potential. so I would imagine it will probably be like reVerse says: They will be linked and pulling one pulls the whole group.
Who knows though, it remains to be seen how the battle dynamics work outside of theory.

So I got FFXIII (awesome game) mainly for the possibility of getting in the BETA. Anyone know about how long it takes for Square to contact you if you get in?

I registered on Saturday.
Well that is for the PS3 beta which hasn't been announced yet. But i'd keep an eye on this thread, I'm sure once it is announced someone will post the info here.

That's interesting. I don't remember that far back. But now that I think about it, in order to get in the PS2 beta, you had to have a HD, which I assume most people didn't.
So, did the closed beat actually start? Internet's pretty quiet.
Well they are super strict about the NDA so that's probably why it's so quiet. That and it's a really limited amount of people in the first phase so i'm sure most of them are paranoid about breaking the NDA in any fashion.
The beta was scheduled to start on the 11th. However not having an invitation I have no idea if it's on schedule or not
Supposedly they'll be having more waves of invites as the beta progresses but even the Beta itself won't have access to the majority of the content. It seems they are using the beta mostly to test the balance of the game and are keeping the majority of the story and content under wraps for the release.
But there was an influx of info on the day the beta released on Japanese game magazines. There was some Q&A stuff with the developers and they revealed all the classes that are currently available in the beta in addition to some info on how they work and some tidbits about the combat system.

Non-disclosure agreement. Means you can't say anything or they'll getcha.
Yup, and I don't know specifically what the consequences would be but you can be sure that immediate end to your ability to play said beta would be among them.

A lot of people don't realize that beta does not mean "early free trial'". If you get in the beta you may see the game early, true, but you are signing up to help test the game in a pre-release state.
It will be ugly. It will crash constantly. Play balance will be whack. You will be doing your best to break the game in every and any way you can. It may even suck balls, but you test and you keep quiet about the testing in the hopes that they make the fugly mess you have installed on your computer into something you may be willing to pay to keep playing.
And the number 1 rule of beta club is that you do not TALK about beta club.

Which is why I hate that 90% of people use it only as a "trial". My roommate got into FFXI beta early, and when it crashed he just restarted and kept playing and didn't bother to try to fix it. I like to test of course to learn about the game early, but also so when it comes out it's actually working properly.

no.. the beta site is open and you can view the forums; but the *alpha* is still not available to d/l at this time.

Can you sign up for PS3 or is it PC only?
From what I saw yesterday, yes and yes.
However you may only sign up for one or the other. An application to both will erase the older application.

Honestly the more I read the more hyped i'm getting for this game. They are doing some interesting things with this game.

I thought they were doing them together since, you know, servers will be together.
Aren't they? Like PS2 and PC in FFXI.
