Sentinel listed as it's weapon being... shield? Does it... only use shields? Gladiator was already stated to be a tank with sword and shield. This is weird.
Sentinel isn't real. Neither are assassin, adventurer, bard, samurai, armorsmith, or flayer.
And BLU's gimmick is that its debuffs are actually crazy powerful, they just rarely ever stick. That or damage spells that have debuffs in them, if for some reason you don't have a debuffer in your party.
Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. I was...concerned.

I always thought they should have implemented it as playable in game in FFXI to alleviate the waiting for group problem. I'm shocked that no MMO has implemented this, esp since WoW has its own card game anyway.
I agree. It would also alleviate no PvP to an extent. It'd be a huge boost to the game's staying power.

I dunno, inevitably I'd find something else to do while LFG, but if I wasn't IN Whitegate I wouldn't get any invites.

I always imagined it as playable either through something like the trade system (where two players meet and then play, keeping their characters wherever and not interrupting chat) or at tables like the dice tables scattered around (that would allow easier pick up games and public spectators).
Interesting about EQ2 though. Never got around to playing that game much.

I never really found much to do while LFG, and sometimes you wait forever. I feel like it should be just a whole 'nother button you press. You can inspect, trade, or 'Play Triple Triad'. You hit the button, both characters sit, and the game board pops up on your screen. Theres some default animation your 2 characters do, like putting down cards or whatever so others know the two are playing. It's not a very time-consuming game; each round takes ~5 min. Great time killer, great competition, adds a whole new level of depth to the overall game because of all the systems its included in (crafting, questing, grinding, etc.). Doesn't disrupt class/ability balances. Win!

What is it with jumping? I don't jump in the real world, nobody ever jumps really
I think that instead of jumping like Super Mario they should just make it so characters intelligently climb over/under obstacles and design game areas so that you don't have to walk 5 miles to get around a tiny fence
edit: Also, re: LFG, if they allow crazy addons like WoW you could play peggle or something

One of the most frustrating parts of XI was coming to a waist-high ledge and having to go "well, I can't walk up it. Guess this means a 10 minute walk to the nearest 'exit.'"

But its not like the world "had" to have a ledge there, the game world in MMOs is designed. It would just be a slightly higher fence or ledge in a FFXI with jumping.

I agree whole-heartedly with this. I can't stand being blocked from moving past an obstacle that is shorter than I am. That being said, increasing freedom of movement is one of the prime causes of characters getting stuck in places that they have no reason to go to other than curiosity, and also causing pathing issues for both PCs and NPCs that result in some terrible game exploits.
Also, most game engines are dumb and can't tell the difference between a 3 foot vertical surface and a 25 foot vertical surface, at least as far as pathing over them are concerned. Fixable? Absolutely; should they want to expend the effort.

...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
But its not like the world "had" to have a ledge there, the game world in MMOs is designed. It would just be a slightly higher fence or ledge in a FFXI with jumping.
That's true, but if there was a ledge overhead at least that would be a plausible reason for not being able to climb it. Being stymied by a knee high ledge is just irritating.
Could you guys at least wait on the complaining until the game is further along the development cycle? The build demo'd at E3 wasn't even the beta, according to the translator chick in the interview. Feedback about the controls is one thing, but seriously stop whining.
I'm curious how you misconstrued "I hope they allow KMAP features for PC users" as whining and bitching.
You might want to read a few posts along a conversation line before you decide to be that guy.
Hey, I call it like I see it. I think you really read more into what I posted than was there though.
We don't know if there is going to be KBAM customization at this point. The game is still in Alpha. That being said, the people saying "I won't buy the game" because of that is acting a bit silly. I agree the lack of support in FFXI made the learning curve very steep at first, but it hardly made the game unplayable. The overreaction is just that, it's the standard "You guys are being mean i'm not playing anymore!" response.
But it's all a moot point anyways. It is entirely too early to say anything for sure. I am hoping the option is available because in this generation of MMO's it should be included standard, but it is hardly a game breaking thing if it isn't included. If they don't have it in there i'll still be playing on Keyboard/Mouse, and if for some reason the KBAM controls are stupidly horrendous to the point where It is literally impossible to play (not likely) I'll play it on gamepad. I hope that is not the case, but the game looks entertaining enough that despite a shortcoming like that it seems to me to be worth it.
I realize of course others don't view things in the same light, but it is fairly irritating to see the staple boycott remark that is always seen when a game chooses a direction that some may disagree with.
Besides....it's not like voicing that opinion ad nauseum here will get the attention of FFXIV devs. You can rest assured there is a large voiced complaint already from the alpha players regarding this very topic. Considering the recent released information it is tragic to see the topic of conversation is so focused on something that isn't even decided at this point.
I'm sick of people talking down on whining and bitching. That's how you get shit changed in a beta.
Embrace it fully and hopefully when I play this at release, I won't have to endure shitty KBAM controls.
Yeah seriously, it's in testing. Now is the time to whine about problems, especially obvious glaring problems. It's not too much to ask for PC players not to be stuck with a shitty port of a good game.
Granted the SE devs don't read this board :P

Which was the point of my argument . There is plenty of stuff to talk about in the game but people seems to keep harping on the same issue over and over. Once it is established by SE that there will be no KBAM support then I could understand the frustration. But they just revamped the entire combat system. Things are still being changed. If at that point the game goes gold you are more than welcome to not buy it. I'm just saying we should reserve judgment and not be so hasty to just consider the game utterly worthless based on something that still has a decent chance to be changed.

well, SE should really make a post saying if they are or aren't working on it. The fact that the KBAM controls were so bad (I haven't played it but I assume they're the same as XI?) when the beta started pretty much says that they didn't realize the XI style controls were bad at all, probably because they were all using a controller.

FFXI controls didn't involve the mouse at all so I assume the control scheme currently bitched about in FFIX is similar, if not the same. I can see how it could be hard to get used to when coming from WoW-style FPS controls, but I played XI for about 100 days (/played) and never once used anything but a keyboard.
I found the keyboard-only controls to be quite fantastic after the initial shock. Sure, they could be better, but it's not quite the atrocity that some people make it out to be.

I remember using keyboard only when I played EverQuest the first time. in 1999.
Times have changed, since then.
It's more about allowing us to customize our experience than it is specifically about KBAM controls.
That being said, after 10 years of Mouse & Board, muscle memory can make it a bit difficult to learn something different.
Hell, I remember after switching keyboards for a week when replacing my G-15 (With a new G-15, of course!) I had to use a standard keyboard and I fucking hated it.

Looking better. Seriously if they have decent character customization options and the combat tactics work out the way they're listing it. I think I'm going to train a Lancer/Healer combo style character. I dunno. Anyone already have a role picked out for themselves in their head?

If they still plan to release it this year, I'm guessing they are going to go all out at TGS.
In a recent interview at E3 they firmly stated they were still on track for a 2010 release. All subject to change of course but they seemed optimistic.

Yes. But I don't think you'll get an email about it, from what i've read you should just be able to log it with your current info once beta starts.
Also they have not announced when Beta will start. Only that they would like to start it before the end of July.
