Wii speak with non Wii Systems

So I've got a wii speak and am kinda disappointed with the support that its been getting. I've got a PS3 and several games that have voice chat on there and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in getting wii speak to work on a non-nintendo platform?

I've got an older 80 gig ps3 that I could put linux on of that would help.

    is it anything more than a usb microphone?

    I'm surprised the ps3 can't pick it up by default.

    It registers it as an unknown usb device when I plug it in.

    Hvae you tried to use it as a PC microphone?

    I tried but it needs a driver for it and I've not been able to find one online as of yet.
