Xbox Disc

My copy of Modern Warfare 2 no longer works.

There is an odd shaped smudge on my Modern Warfare 2 disc. (Xbox 360)

At first i thought it was an extremely odd laser burn, but I noticed when I removed it from the Xbox that, when i touched the area of the smudge, it moved as though the smudge was actually a liquid under the "skin" if the disc.

It's Also worth mentioning that i never mistreated the game in any way: i always made sure it was in it's case when not in the Xbox, and i never moved the Xbox when it had a disc in it.

Horrible quality picture taken by cell phone and modified by the Paint program:

So, two questions

1) Does anyone know of a way to fix this particular problem?
2) If not, could i send it in to Microsoft for a replacement?

Optical discs are made of a thin layer of metal sandwiched between plastic discs. What you've got there is the plastic layer separating from the metal.

It's a manufacturing defect, so I would imagine you should be able to swap it.

Yeah that is their mistake and they should be the ones to replace it.

Just let them know you won't pay for shipping either.

I'm sure that every game has a 90 day warranty for this kind of defect, so call.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a question closely related this. I have several xbox games and dvds where I've seen smudges or just where the disc clearly has places where metal film is reflecting light differently on freshly opened discs but the game or movies play just fine. Is this a common occurrence when a dvd is made?
