I specced up to Shotties in the first beta. They're useful at slightly longer ranges then you'd imagine, but it still takes a second shot to down most enemies (barring a headshot, of course). I think it's too expensive at five points, but otherwise it's a satisfying enough weapon.
I'd have taken it again myself purely for the shits and giggles if I hadn't specced the silencer / stealth running perks.

Edit: No seriously, I can't take another minute of this game playing with random morons. They drown out useful comms talking to their roommates, they block my movement into cover and away from grenades. They die in such inconvenient places and curse me when I die in a five-way crossfire topped with a claymore on their body.
Seriously. last match 50% of the downed guys i tried to revive had an enemy claymore on or near them. The fun one is when it triggers right as you revive, getting two kills.
I will say props to whoever recommended the rifle foregrip. That's easily doubled my kills and has increased my chance of surviving a gun-kata-dance to 50% from zero. At retail launch, that's gonna be my second upgrade after medic kit.

I get to go to the launch event in London next Wednesday to play for the IGN team versus Eurogamer. Free food drinks and a limited edition copy of the game!
Nice way to finish off a fortnight of university exams

I kind of hate you right now.
You will hate me more when I tell you that I just called my brother who is out drinking after work to tell him I got in. He checks his phone as a result and has a missed call so he just called them back and is also in.
I just got MSN'd by a guy at uni who is in as well !

That is such a dick move and I am totally buying the claymore just to do this.

I did reference it in terms of the LMG, but it works for all weapons. Run-and-gun actually works with that thing equipped, I may end up eschewing the bipod except for the most absolute static-position defending. Like fucking up paratroopers.

I wish I could name my loadouts. Also, I've friended a bunch of you people on PSN, same name as my name here. I need to see some PA up in here.
I wish I could have more loadouts, five isn't enough. I've got my heavy machinegunner setup for offense and defense, my sniper loadout, then a medium assault troop and a lightweight harassment setup. Once I start getting into vehicle/Domination maps, I'm going to want to be able to switch on/off for ones designed for anti-personnel vs anti-vehicle/objective, I'm betting.
I'll try to get some gaming in tonight, but who knows what my schedule is like tonight.

I nearly made my pregnant wife pee her pants laughing while playing this during open beta.
I was laying down progressing forward towards an enemy position in cover and this dumbass runs right infront of me and starts hosing down the map with his MG hitting nothing. I have my headset on and in a very dead pan voice and matter of factly go.
"Well team, I could have naded that sniper but mr. retard here just gave away our position."
I must of missed it the first time since I only really played sniper during the open beta. But, talking to the people you kill (and enemies that are close) is something that should be in every game. Some kid on the other team managed to sneak up on my MG position, I heard him talking to his team and whipped all the way around to unload 15 rounds in his face and then heard him flip out over how it was total bullshit. I tried to remind him the importance of noise discipline.
It is with this new found knowledge that I'm starting up my old splinter cell habits and commenting on the lovely smell of a snipers shampoo right before I knife him in the back. It's silly and my squad has no clue what I'm talking about but it makes me giggle every time.
I intend on getting MAG on release date, if just because the massive battles/squad combat are rather appealing. It seems like SVER is going to be the PA standard, which is good (it was the only faction I didn't try during the beta). Looking forward to playing with all of you.

I'm still disappointed that domination isn't open. I'm sure there's some legal mumbo-jumbo I'm missing but they should have opened the beta to all but only let the americans enter the official tournament.

You can only play Domination if you're Level 10, so there may simply not be enough Lv10 players on the servers yet. :P

Quoted for situational humor. Good stuff...kinda XD
Yeah I think I may spec out full sniper on this, the idea of sneaking behind enemy lines with a buddy and calling off targets to support eachother is too sexy to pass up.
On a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone have a hard time hearing eachother over their headset? I have this bluetooh doodad and while it technically works, it is still damn hard to understand what a lot of folks are saying over the noise of the game. I wish I had some actual headphones (like a sane minded PC FPS type of guy should be using) for this game so I can freaking hear everyone easier.

I didn't have too many issues, hearing or being understood, and I have a really cheap bluetooth headset (we are talking $10). I'm about 10 feet away from my PS3, and it works fine. Luck of the draw, I guess. Some people I can't understand, lots are fine.
For all the times that I unload what seems like a whole clip at a guy just to have him turn round and ping a headshot at me, there are those times when I become rambo incarnate that make it all worth while.
I got a 7 kill streak earlier today, decimating nearly an entire squad and rezzing teammates afterwards to save an objective. I felt like an absolute champ!
On a more annoying note are the guys who bitch at me for releasing when they run at me with their med gun out even though there is lots of guys in the area still alive and no one providing covering fire. I have honestly had one situation where I was rezzed to half health and then instantly killed four times in a row

Admittedly I could have worded that better, but I never got around to playing 256 player games before the beta ended.
They are fun, when you have any idea what you're doing. If you just get thrust into them, they will scare you away
That's something similar to my experience with the early playmodes; when the leader didn't actually take charge and give us a gameplan, I found myself trying to stick near the front-lines and do my best to avoid getting shot, instead of actually contributing.

I didn't like domination until I just sat back with a medkit and a repair kit and just tried to keep people who knew what they were doing alive until I figured out what I was supposed to be doing. Once I figured that all out it was a blast.
Fun times last night and I finally got my blue tooth headset connected so next time we play I can actually interact.
Also I don't think Domination is open right now because I don't think there's enough people playing. I imagine for the tournament they want people funneled into one play mode so matches can keep going.
Apparently the IGN servers can't handle more than 1000 people at once, and Domination will not be opening for the tournament.
Boo.
Also I am getting slightly irritated at the number of people to whom MAG is Serious Fucking Business and complain about not getting healed/losing one out of four matches/taking too long to cap a point across platoon chat.

My favorite are people who don't call for a medic when they go down but then complain that a nearby medic didn't pick them up after they've bled out. I must have missed the part where mics only work while re-spawning.
Joystiq posted these facts:
Zipper also broke down the populations of the three factions: Raven and Valor each netted about 38 percent of the game's player base, while SVER only picked up 24 percent. However, despite its smaller size, SVER ended up winning out overall for the Sabotage gametype. Well, now we know which private military contractor is the plucky underdog.
I rolled SVER first then after about level 5 went with Valor during the original beta... I have to say we won a hell'a lot more with SVER though I personally did better as Valor.

I give people a little leeway because it's open mic. I say horrible things over PTT that people never hear.
I remind those persistent whiners that everyone is there to help the team achieve the objective, and there are more priorities than picking up one specific corpse. They are screaming into their mic from the middle of a bullet-beaten open death ground, 50m from any cover, and the sniper that shot them is still aiming at him. If they want my services, die in a more convienent place. Sending more to die to revive his bunny-hopping carcass isn't winning the fight.
And when there are four enemies standing on top of his body, one planting a claymore in his crotch, four more are heading for our capture point and I have no cover, I'm going to empty a belt from my machinegun into them. This does not constitute "not doing my job". I am not his self-propelled sidekick/undo button.
I do wish I could ditch some of this gear though. I can't unequip my rifle or sidearm, so that's 600 and 100c used without attachements and sometimes a loadout is 100c from working. I'd be willing to do a PDW only or even weaponless loadout to go pure medic. That pistol, even with rapid reload and "refire" is worthless.
Edit: according to the stats, the pistol is more powerful than the standard sniper rifle, 5 vs 4, but has half the rate of fire, 2.5 vs 4. That's a Lol.
