What's the advantage over the Assault Rifle with the same fixin's?

The assault rifle isn't a workable sniper loadout.

Also I think it might cost less than a similarly kitted out assault rifle, but I haven't had time to check. It's actually based off of an SMG spec I used that was just a silenced SMG with the motion sensor, sensor jammer, and some other piece of equipment. Basically I've been trying to figure out if there is a worthwhile sniper kit, and this is about as close as I've gotten.

RE Karniel: Methinks most of the officers are watching the hockey game so I'm sure you'll get an invite after (or during intermission if Lit isn't drunk off the first goal.

RE Sniper: I've finally started racking up kills with the base rifer/sight, silencer, fore grip, and motion sensor. I feel very naked without my med kit but thanks to the cheap respecs I can go back and forth when I get frustrated sniping. Once I get the medal/trophy I don't think I'll ever touch a sniper rifle in this game again.

I will be back soon to clan up and hopefully graduate from University this time, maybe make my way toward a PhD :P

For the moment though, I have to complete White Knight Story and Heavy Rain.

If I can get them done before FFXIII, GoW3, Just Cause 2, Max Payne 3, Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, and Yakuza 3 come out on the PS3 then I will be playing until they do.

Damn I hate my one and only addiction..... I love it too though.

I assume that you're referring to the AR\BR's lack of accuracy (even with a 4x) compared to the tier one sniper rifles (I think they're referred to as Designated Marksman Rifles). I also note that the DMRs have a (slightly) higher damage rating than even the BRs according to MAG Game Tools.

Having used the AK-103 with a fore-grip and 4x I can say that it makes for a (at best) mediocre sniper weapon; good for counter-sniping but difficult to use against rapidly moving targets at any significant range. I get the sense that DMRs are much more precise and controllable on a shot-to-shot basis. Is this correct?

EDIT: One more question; can you "double-tap" DMRs effectively?

I'll be on playing this in a bit.

I regret not playing a lot more back when it came out, because I could do pretty well back then. Now I'm a low level scrub scurrying between the legs of titans. My niche is running around healing and repairing. If I'm ever firing my shitty little gun, it's as a futile gesture of defiance right before I'm torn to shreds by a gleaming silver terminator.

Hope you have better luck than me. I just got an error code and can't log in. Interestingly enough all my MAG downloads are corrupted (themes and avatars)... o_O

From what I can gather it's happening to a lot of folks.

EDIT: Seems that the error only occurs on older systems. Official word is "they're working on it" but there are some very upset people right now. It also appears that I'm not alone in having most of the data on my system corrupted. Personally I'm none too worried, but I may be in the minority here.

Not the proper thread but I hope Sony catches flak for this. Not the servers being down, but the reliance to be connected to the servers while playing certain single player games.

It worked ok for me, but now I'm worried if I'll get it in the future. I have an old style ps3, but a recent one, if that makes sense. I remember being incredibly pissed when I found out some games plain wouldn't work on launch 360's. I figure this'll be sorted out soon enough, unlike the 360 problem where I could just go to hell as far as they cared.

edit: Nevermind, I've got it too. I thought maybe it was something you could dodge. Oh well, there's always my love/hate relationship with pcs.

    Party like it's 6:00, December 31st 1999!

I had an extra scare when I got in from the game (yes Piggy, the first goal was reason enough) and my Dual Shock wouldn't connect / turn on my system [and just continuously 'seeked']. So I booted it by hand and saw the lovely error and figured my system's network adapter was giving up the ghost.

It's completely absurd to be locked out of single player games.

On topic now, the first tier Sniper Rifle with the 4X Scope, Silencer and Foregirp is only a 100cc less then the AG-94 similarly equipped. The Sniper is more accurate, the AG-94 has the faster refire time. With the [limited] range provided by the 4X Scope and the overall pervasiveness of the plus twenty hitpoint perk and heavier armor, I know I feel the Assault Rifle is able to finish targets off whereas with the Sniper I inflict more damage but generate less bodies. Headshots lean back towards the Sniper Rifle, but the speed of the game is simply too quick for me to be able to hit anything that small [reliably] that's not stationary.

I really like my 4x scope, silencer and foregrip on the AG-94. I filled out the entire AR line except for the 5 point AR. I tend to kill people with the full auto spray because I am still fairly inaccurate with the whole gamepad aiming. I also got the grenade launcher upgrade. I am of two minds about it on one side it is nice to use to clear a heavily defended cramped objective, on the otherside its fairly inaccurate and 3 grenades wont take down a humvee. And the lack of a foregrip gives some recoil. The worst is the implementation in the control scheme. The logical position in my opinion for the grenade launcher would be right after your AR.
But it goes AR-bullets, pistol, AR-grenade. Which takes two presses and in a hectic moment I am back at AR-bullets and dieing.

That double press has had me spray .45ACP rounds into nicely clustered groups of enemies on more than one occasion. I agree that the control scheme is a little wonky, I'd personally prefer that the GL was placed as a secondary weapon, but then I'd prolly 'nade someone when I meant to heal them. I suppose it is what it is...

Back for one game and ran into the angriest SVER pubbie ever (including Lit!). I spawn out of the tank, default sniper rifle in hand, in front of two bad manz. I immediately scope in and start firing as fast as the fastest sniper can and kill 3 targets. The third was my squad leader who by some sort of fluke spawned in front of me and took a single shot to the back of the skull. After cussing me out for the next minute or two I couldn't stop myself from laughing. Apparently this was not the response he was looking for and berated me for having a silly goose voice and that I can get my hairspray and my silly goose head out of his precious game.

I really should have gotten his name and send him a "let's be silly goose friends" message.

The worst guy, and I don't run into to many douches on MAG, was this guy from New Zealand. Kept yelling at me for setting shitty FRAGOs. (Yeah because putting the AA and our bunkers up are not a priority when you need to defend your letter. Oh yeah I forget, ITS AUTO-FRAGGOED.) He proceeds to berate me on America's failures in war including Afghanistan of all things, our shitty economy and other geo-political events. Kept calling me Americunt.

Was hilarious with his accent, and of course SVER won the match and I got MVP of our platoon with him being average but hell what do I know about playing the game. New Zealand of all places.

So I feel like I'm getting the hang of the shotgun. It's still a bit inconsistent at times, but I find I'm getting a feel for knowing when a shotgun blast will kill them, and when I should prepare to keep firing and/or knife them.

And getting into a standing firefight with three or so dudes and being last man standing makes you feel like God.
I feel like I need to buy the Improved Health skill now just to produce that euphoria more often.

SMG still feels kinda like a wash though, really. I have a couple loadouts still hanging onto the SMG, and I've been trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but then invariably I'll empty like ten bullets into someone and still die, and then I fall to the siren call of shotgunning people in the face.

Urgh i hate people like that. It seems to be a genuinely shocking concept to people that to protect something you can push past it. Most players seem to treat objectives like precious eggs or puppies that need to be hovered over and nurtured to protect, in case they wander away.

It's like they never seem to realize that these waves of enemies are coming from somewhere and that if you cut them off at the source you'll have a much easier time protecting the object. The most exasperating time for that is trying to defend E-F on the Valor Domination map, nobody else on the team ever seems to twig to the fact that the fact there are two APCs parked out in the open and we've got a clear approach down the flank could be used to our advantage. Instead we should all just keep charging into the meat grinder and get slaughtered.

With all these Raven stories, I for one personally cannot wait until I make the switch over. Seems like good times to me! :(

To Vander's teamkilling 'morals' come my own:
    - I'll teamkill anyone being overly annoying (example, spending half the game on Platoon chat listening to music) after asking numerous times by name to switch off it, including sending PSN messages.
    - I'll teamkill anyone who seemingly intentionally drives our APC off to it's demise after repeatedly asking them not to move it, including sending PSN messages after the first offense. I'll votekick them as well as they're likely in my Squad.
    - I'll teamkill anygroup spawn sniping towards the venting stations (on domination defense) after watching those two letters contribute 50% of the damage and I've just taken both of them back, single handedly. While I'm OIC requesting anyone to help me cover their asses. My record is five, and the boot I received was well earned.

Long story short - if you're not helping us, and it's become apparent we actually need you to help us, and I've tried every possible avenue to communicate I have no issue venting a little frustration. On the other hand, I've had guys comply or even better communicate back and have even tried inviting some of them to the group after the match - I think it was Penguin that mentioned a talkative player was automatically better than eighty to ninety percent of the playerbase on that merit alone, which I agree with.

Even with the nerfs to the shotgun (which they still need to tweak!) I find it the most hilarious thing to yell "SHOOOOTGUUUUN!" In the 'Toasty!' voice from MK2. Okay, sure, that leads to me singing 'I love you, you love me!' as I mow down an entire Raven squad, but still!

I also repec-ed and dropped my SMG (cause i feel the same way you do about it) to pick up the Improved Health skill. It makes a little bit of difference, but not a ton, at least that i've seen so far. However, it's just 20 extra health, so i guess i shouldn't expect it to be world altering.

I swapped my AG-94 for an AK-103 with the same accessories (Reflex sight and Grenade Launcher). All I can say is wow... I'd lost faith in the BRs up until now. I'm trying to wrap my head around why I'm able to fight more effectively with a weapon that hits (as far as I can tell slightly) harder at the expense of fire-rate. Looking at the stats I think the AG-94 should do more damage per second than the AK-103. It definitely seems that the AG-94 should have a higher probability of headshots thanks to its higher fire-rate, accuracy and stability. However, using the AK-103 I was able to brutalize my enemies in ways I never could with the AG-94. Maybe I just got lucky but the AK-103 seemed to do far more damage than its stats would belie.
