Issues with Wireless Network

HaruspexHaruspex Registered User new member
Hey everyone. I bought a new PC a few months back--it's worked well throughout that period--and recently it's simply refused to connect to the internet. I have a DSL modem, which has always worked, connected to a Linskys Wireless-g router. The other computer hooked up to the network is still able to get on the net wirelessly. My PC, however, prompts me with an error message: "There is a driver or hardware problem with the network adapter "Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)." Don't know what caused this--was working in the morning, then it just stopped. Any advice?

Just to clarify - are you trying to connect via wired or wireless with this PC? I'm asking because a "Gigabit Ethernet NIC" doesn't sound like a wireless device.

Some quick things you can try with the problem hardware - get the most recent driver from the manufacturer, try installing it, in case a driver file got corrupted. Uninstall/reinstall the device. If it's the wired NIC and you're trying to get on wirelessly, and maybe the NIC is causing general networking problems preventing wireless from working (not common but stranger things have happened) then try disabling the wired NIC altogether from device manager.
