I might make some outlandish claims and be bawdy at times, but to claim the SNIPER being outclassed in close range is a bad thing is one of the literally dumbest things I've ever heard.
In light of that, valve still favored them with the lucksman. And protection from their antithesis via the razorback.
No I am positive you get a bonus point for like every 2-3 people you put out as airblast pyro.
Otherwise I have accrued mystery bonus points.
Know how I know this post is false? It supposes that SirToons plays airblast pyro which is clearly false, as it goes against the definition of SirToons.
Based on the damage stats from TF2Wiki, a point-blank SMG has the same DPS as an unscoped rifle. And the unscoped rifle has no dropoff. I can't countenance using the SMG except to do the silly reload animation trick. (Hold the reload and fire buttons at the same time. Produces some interesting results.)
I mean, I helped my team win a game of Badwater Basin in overtime with the Jarate (five dudes taking minicrits when a Pyro was about to start burning? Turned into 1 defender real fast). Can the SMG do that? I say ye nay.
Uh, you might wanna check those damage stats again.
Also the SMG gets random crits in addition to doing more damage.
the sheer amount of times that my burning corpse lands on a medpack
makes me raaaaaaage
Exactly. Even if the fire doesn't kill anyone, a dude who is on fire is going to have one thing on his mind: putting the fire out. No other weapon can force a player to run to the opposite side of the map just to heal up.
I also thought the same thing, but then they made the direct hit. It is basically the huntsman but with more booletz in a clip. It is about predicting where people will be and hitting them with a projectile that has a travel time. And I admit there are plenty of lucksman shots, but there is a certain amount of skill involved.
I might just be saying that because I'm totally a huntsman sniper.

I'm quite crap at both classes, but it seemed to me that it would take hours and hours of practice with the Direct Hit before I start getting comparable kills to what I get by just randomly firing arrows. It's quite fun.
Yesterday I got a heavy to taunt me through some glass and then I ran around the wall and scattergunned him to death while he was stuck in his taunt animation.

Friend of mine who plays on the servers alot but rarely talks said last night that he thought that giving the razorback some explosion or other damage resistance might be a good idea.
I'm charmed by that, I must say.
Fact is that due to the changes it's easier than ever for people to close gaps in distance or render them irrelevent (eg, the direct hit), and it does get a little tiring sometimes to do the whole spawn/die/spawn/die thing.
Given that the razorback takes away the SMG or Jarate, both essentially offensive weapons, maybe a little more defense would be suitable.
I don't know though, I'm certainly not saying snipers shouldn't be dead meat at close range the vast majority of the time. It'd just be nice to be able to live a little bit longer given how distance (in real terms) has diminished since the game began.

this sounds fine to me, but if i could fix anything about the sniper it would be the cuntsman
Item 1, The razorback has a battery hooked up to it.
Item 2, The sniper scope has that cool lightning bolt symbol to show you charge.
Therefore, you should be able to variably adjust the power of the battery in the razorback as a trade off to the charge of the zoom. Cap your sniper scope charge at 50%, a razorback backstab results in a 100 damage to the spy. Give the razorback a little crackly spark now and then to warn spies or something.
Item 3, THROW YOUR JARATE ON EVERY ENEMY COME ON YOU SELFISH JERK.

Here's a good strategy for compensating the razorback's lack of offensive power: don't use the razorback
And if you think dying a lot is tiring, maybe TF2 is not the game you should be playing because everybody dies a lot in this game.

b-b-but revolvers
how will i defend myself against revolvers
what am I supposed to do then, play a different class?
Also the SMG gets random crits in addition to doing more damage.
i grinned so hard
also I still say afterburn is worse than pipes as indirect fire.
edit: the SMG is good for the same reason that snipers aren't that bad at close range. They get headshots, do lots of damage, crit chance ramps up.
I crit soooo often with the SMG its retarded. I think Goomba knows what I'm talking about. :winky:
Only one negates pipes. That's 1/9.
Versus 8/9. hrm yes, slow damage over time fire is so much worse >: (

2/3's of classes negate fire? Who? Pyro and medic? Well, and idiot snipers who use jarate.
So few times but extremely memorable?
There's usually a nearby medic, a nearby medpack, some water, some jarate, or a pyro around.
Jarate.
Heal beam.
Dead Ringer.
Sandwhich.
Dispenser.
Bonk?
Targe resistance.
Pyro Suit resistance.
Any Health Pack.
Any source of water.
Am I missing anything?
Talith, there's the cabinets. They get rid of fire.
I'm pretty sure you get bonus points for getting a good stun off with the sandman.
Despite all the updates, I still think the huntsman is the most annoying and possibly OP weapon. We should complain about that.
Because like -30 health and all it does is get rid of their crosshair.
I might just be saying that because I'm totally a huntsman sniper.
I gave it a go yesterday and was pleasantly surprised when I got shot at by the heavy while he still had stars above his head.
I tauntkilled a pyro right out of his spawn on a pub with my huntsman, and he flares me to the face. /cry

That was pretty cool.
You are terrible.
Terrible, I might add, like pyro.
that was sooooooo sad

let's celebrate by actually playing
Like if that's the worst thing to happen to snipers then, like...
damn.
I used to think the hardest class to play was the spy depsite the fact they killed me more than any other class.
I am actually pretty unbiased, it's just that I know a specific class inside out.
Also you always seem to ignore when I say stuff like 'sniper should die in close combat' or such.
you say this all the time and yet every time i get into close combat you never do the honourable thing and suicide
