Normally, in student films and independent works (when fees will not be received for the work), credit and acknowledgment is the norm. If the owner of the license wants more, then they want more.

Also, who holds the rights is probably unique to their situation. The author might maintain the rights, or Relic might have received them under the contract of employment/whatever.

In any film you make, even a youtube piece of shit, you should credit any other people's work you put to use. Aside from being a legally safe thing to do, it's good etiquette.

    This.

Also, as far as the copyright is concerned, it's ultimately up to the property owner. On the bright side, though, now that Creative Commons is a fairly familiar idea in copyright terms, the divide between artists is becoming smaller and smaller.

Note: Of course, this is all with the consideration that you're not trying to make a profit from what you're doing. If you're wanting money, get ready to shell out big bucks for anything third-party.

Yep, of course he would get a HUGE credit, but I'm probably going to offer a little extra "honorarium" to use them, and yeah, it would only be for the student screening and festival runs, so it would NOT be in the aim of making money off of it. If we ever got it out of festivals (i.e. bigger things) we would get an original soundtrack composed.

Thanks guys, sounds like it could possibly be feasible... I'll just ask him directly and see what happens D:

So, here's an entirely different Torchlight related question.

I'm in very loose contact (i.e. he emailed me back!) with Matt Uelman about possibly using some of the TL soundtrack in a student film I am editing/doing sound design on here in Toronto. (Film schoooooooool)

I dropped some of the tracks from the game's music folder as a temp music track in my rough edit and godDAMN if it doesn't up the intensity of every single scene that it is used. (it's a sci-fi short about a portal to another dimension, I did not write it.)

Just taking a shot in the dark that he would maybe let me use a track or two for the score, what would be a reasonable offer for something like this? (other than just asking nicely?) Would Runic possibly have the rights to this music or would I want to ask Matt U himself?

Figured I'd ask here what you guys think before I totally put my nerd-foot in my mouth. o_O

Or provide instructions on how to do it. That way you're not distributing it.

When an ability has a marker for a stat (Magic, Strength, Dexterity, or Defense), does that mean it derives the actual stat value or the result on your melee / ranged / magic attacks or damage reduction? I want to think the former, which would explain the "Weapon Damage 20%" or whatever you see on some skills as well.

Edit - Example: Ember Shock has 100% magic icon. At level one, my magic stat is 10. The damage indicator next to it is 14-28. Which of these is being applied 100% to Ember Shock's damage?

Am I the only on who notices a ridiculously high proportion of purple colored armor? It's like half purple stuff, half everything else. Last night I upgraded boots twice and shoulders three times. All purple.

The item name blue leans toward a lavender sort of thing, and the purple leans toward a blend of magenta.

i was sad when i finally broke down and got rid of my first unique item last night. my lucky gunslinger cap just wasn't cutting it with its 4 defense despite its awesome enchantments. this sadness was appeased witha new unique gun, boots, staff and something else i found.

i was in a awesome item dryspell for a while but hit the mother lode last night. i have found like 5 pairs of gorgon gloves though

    Just as a general 'as I understand it' regarding the stats and skills that scale with them;

    1) Stat %; takes your stat value. Worst of the bunch; almost all of these should be 3-400% with the base damage scaled down to match.

    2) Weapon dps; takes your weapon's dps stat, unaffected by the relevant stat. For this reason, Fastest weapons yield the best rewards as enchanting them provides bigger dps boosts*.

    3) Weapon damage; takes your weapon's damage (very hard to say if this is affected by stats or not given the miniscule difference stats make to weapon damage). However, it also takes certain effects on the weapon, such as Knockback and applies them to skills.

*Weapon 1 does 10 damage every second, Weapon 2 does 20 damage every 2 seconds. Both are 10dps. If an enchantment adds 5 damage, W1 now does 15 dps, while W2 does 25 every 2 for 12.5dps. Bah.

I was originally going to try and mod enchantment stats so that they all added dps instead of damage (and Lifesteal did dps leech) but unfortunately TorchED doesn't let you go deep enough to do that . 8(

    Hey you. Yea, you.

You need to play more Torchlight. 3 hours in 2 weeks? Please.

I playe dlast night some more. I bought a map and was fighting the dwarf fortresses area. All the dwarves were like 4 or 5 levels above me! It was rough for a while, but I managed to beat it. I think it was a waste though since I really couldn't use all the great equipment I found.

So what is the best stretegy to building sets of armor? Is there a chance for me to make my raven set on my first play through or should I put that in the shared chest?

Oh so THAT's what the function keys are for, hot swapping shit to your right mouse click? That could actually be useful, provided you have the memory for it.

Then again, I do just fine with the 1 through 0 keys.

Yeah, but you can't open up a tab or something that shows all your learned skills and which ones are assigned to keys. It's a good move though, I guess some people JUST CAN'T LET GO. <.<

What? I'm sure I can set my dog to "defensive" and "passive" modes. Top left corner of the screen, the pet display has various modes for your pet.

Summonable stuff though, just seems to do whatever. Which is fine because they're easy to replace.
