Okay, so I have a relatively new xbox 360 elite plugged into my Dell 2350 wireless router, which is in turn plugged into the modem via the usual series of ethernet cables.
It is a pretty crappy router and will randomly drop connections from time to time and we will have to manually reset it, but we can't afford a new one right now so we just live with it.
I had just finished playing some modern warfare 2 online when a roommate reset the router, as has been done many times before without event.
Only this time I can't connect to xbox live. It won't even connect to the network and keeps giving me a message about how it can't find the IP address. I run through all of the xboxes built in trouble shooting things, resetting router, switching IP to automatic, making sure DHCP and MAC address settings are fine. Everything is set to where it should be able to connect. All of the other laptops/ipods/playstation 3s on the network are working just fine. Ps3 is wirelessly connected just fine.
I tried plugging it right into the router and it still won't work.
I thought something might have gone wrong with the ethernet cable so I plugged it into my laptop and it works just fine.
Manually setting an IP address to one that should work. I set it to the one it had used before, I try setting it to just a higher number, none of those work.
The only problem my 360 is throwing at me is failure to get an IP address. I have no idea what else to do. I would think the ethernet port just failed but there is no red on the ring on my xbox.
Does anybody have any possible idea? I don't really want to call microsoft support and spend an hour waiting on the line and then running through everything I have already done at least twice just to find that they have no idea what is wrong with it.

I just went and tried it and there is no light other than the green ring on front.
Ethernet cable plugged in:
W: 0000-000B
X:4000-10001
Y:0000-0000
ID : 0001-0001
Ethernet Cable Unplugged:
W: 0000-0000
X:8000-0011
Y:0000-0000
Z:0000-0000
ID : 0000-0001
I also read that only Microsoft knows what those codes mean and I will tell them if it comes to calling them, but at least it tells me that the xbox is at least recognizing the cable on some level.
