So is the game right now alot of recons doing the stealth snipey bullshit or is there a nice balance.
It's a lot of recons doing stupid katana bullshit, and a lot of robotics doing stupid rocket turret bullshit. Anyone else is just trying to find a way to get around those two things.
Edit: People who like sniper rifles are mostly pissed off because there is no "headshot." A sniper rifle is just a really long-range, high-damage gun that kills in three shots, rather than the 30 it takes me to kill someone as a medic.
very nice, while I understand headshots in alot of games sometimes you just dont want to be wasted in one hit from some cock bag you will never see, and some people are just godly with aim so to remove the one hit I win button is a good thing.
So how many people in a match at a time, is it like Planetside?

Nothing like planetside, think of it more like TF2 with some RPG aspects.

So battles are always instanced? Is it always one side vs another or is it multiple teams in big maps all shooty shooty.

It's always one side versus another, and instanced. No multi brawls that I have seen.
The only "non-instanced" section is the town, and it's still splintered off into different shards.
Well, the teasers for this that I saw on G4 tonight make this look like the coolest game ever. I'm really tempted to buy and I've never heard anything about it.
Got my medic to level 12. Joined the agency as Tango. What vent are you guys using? I've got to go out for a bit, but I hope to try the AvA later, if I'm not too low to help.
At different times I've felt every class was overpowered... so thats just a sign of good balance, I think. That said, fuck recons. I'm going assault once the game goes live because of them. Every time I stop moving for .1 second, one decloaks behind me and starts stabbing me. Also getting a good defensive position as robotics up is easy, but I hate being on teams that can't make a push.

Yeeah, seriously, fuck recons.
Post-patch, I don't find them overpowered so much as, like before, THERE ARE TOO GODDAMN MANY RECONS.
They ought to give assaults or medics some means to actively hunt and decloak the fuckers.
Also, recons on my team who mine my turrets or ambush dudes who try to take out my turrets?
I love you guys!
EDIT: I still maintain that TF2 is the only game that's ever done stealth classes well.

Seriously. I thought after reading those patch notes that some of those LOLSWORDcons would maybe try a new class, get discouraged, tap out. No sir! It's like they're raging against the nerfs...spamming their Ghost Blades ever more!
That's going to happen no matter what happens to Recons.
Until they add a class to the game that can heal itself, gets a free epic mount, starts at level 25, and can basically destroy any one other class in 1 on 1 fight without contest.
This game seems interesting. I might get the one-time purchase option. I do have a question though. This has probably been answered already, but I'm not up to searching through 30 pages. I understand that the battles are instanced, unlike PlanetSide, but how large are they typically?

This cracked me up. I'm not really sure what was going on here. Apparently, I've seen this guy in missions before. I don't know. I didn't realize he was sending me tells until the mission was over, and I had closed the screenshot. Otherwise I'd be posting the scores where I was #1 in damage, #2 in kills, had zero deaths.
I'm including all the extraneous chat to show how this dude decided to carry on this entire conversation by himself. For rather a long period of time, I assume.
I'm not really sure who he is. He's a level 24 engineer. I'm assuming he's the idiot who kept trying to build a base up behind one of the cap points. I blew it and him up 3 or 4 times, but didn't catch his name.
Spoilered for scrolling.
See that tax message at the end? We won. :P
I'm not the best player out there by any stretch of the imagination, but this guy must be brain damaged.
So is the only difference between the two chainguns, that the iminigun does +20% machinery damage, and the cannon does +10 dmg a hit?
Doesn't seem like a very good trade off, I can't see ever going back to the iminigun, I'd rather always have 100 extra damage a second, than rarely have 200 extra damage a second.
I'm getting the feeling that the AvA's going to suck come release. Not suck as in fail to be fun. But suck as in fail to be accessible.
The bidding process and the cost/time of implanting seems like it's going to cater to enormous alliances most, but because of the 10v10 nature of each map, only a small fraction of the people in any given alliance are going to routinely get involved in AvA.
Maybe more maps will fix that, but for the time being, I'm not really getting into it. Fun when I take part? Yeah. But when some other dudes in the alliance are shrieking at everyone else to not defend because they're almost done with a map and totally have dibs like I've seen a couple times, now... that's not cool.
Sadly that is part of it. However, know that we've found out that we can actually take and hold a hex like that, we can start putting together multiple teams. You know, one that can go out and attack while another stays back to defend. It's actually pretty intuitive if you put the effort into organization.

This is going to sound really petty, bitchy, and whiny of me. It would probably be smart of me to just not post it, but I have a big fat mouth. Understand that while I see this in the PA group, I think it's endemic to the AvA design, and will happen in virtually any group.
The people who are putting into the effort into organization are, unfortunately, rather cliquey. I get the impression most of them know each other and have played together before, and so that is entirely expected and not a terrible thing in its own regard. I mean, people who have known each other for years prefer to group with other people they know. That's not unreasonable. It's not a bad thing.
The problem is that there are a fair number of us who are newer, or didn't play Guild Wars with the main group, who are kind of left with table scraps, now. Even worse, it's not just the PA guys: we've got a bunch of complete strangers in the alliance who - on several occasions I've seen - have freaked out at other people for daring to try to defend (although maybe it was those cockbags from Shadow, who I guess left the alliance today).
The experience for me, so far, has been sitting in a Vent channel, listening to 10-15 strangers yell over each other about a match that I'm not involved in, while I run random PvP matches because people from PA rarely seem interested in grouping for them. The one time I got to take part in PvP, I played one match before whoever it was signed back on and they kicked me out for him, even though we won and I apparently didn't fuck anything up. Well, that, and the one we scratched together at 4am where we were brutalized by a bunch of implanted level 30s for 5 minutes before everyone quit.
To be perfectly clear, I don't begrudge anyone who's regularly doing AvA, just grouping with their friends and such. And I won't speak for anyone else, but at least for me, it kind of makes me feel like crap. I'd like to help out, and don't even get the chance.
I mean, hell, I'd be happy with a few people on Vent just doing regular PvP, but it's difficult to even get that going most of the time.
There were a few groups doing PVP today, but I get what you mean. Would also just like to point out that it WAS shadow who got all pissy about that, and that is why they actually ended up leaving. No harm done there.
I literally just grabbed whoever logged on vent first. I mean, Effeh's 10 year old brother or something got in. You think if I were being some super clique hard ass, that I'd let a 10 year old in? Naw, I just made the announcement and he got there first.
Yes, if you want an increased shot at AvA please be in vent. The nature of AvA being 10v10 means that people are inevitably going to be left out. It sucks but there's not much we can do about it. I'm hoping that we'll have enough people to do multiple teams, but it's a little too much to ask for in beta.
The FIRST thing we do is look to vent and inform people in vent that we're getting AvA started. This is partially our fault because we didn't even have the vent info ingame, I just corrected that. It's only after we look at vent that we go to Agency chat and then steam friends lists, and then little brothers.

I'm not so keen on dropping 40 dollars just to try the game.

I can't even repeat it because it just doesn't make any sense in any medium, what he said.
But he did use his elbow to hold down push to talk so he could clap sarcastically.
That should give you a clue.
I PMed it to HiRezMick, saying I didn't know who to send it to. He said he's forwarding it to Stew, so I'd assume you PM HiRezStew on the forums.

Nice work!! to bad it is surrounded by epeen.
Sorry I had to bail after first game, stupid Family crap came up.
