We could always do what one of my WoW guilds did: Happy Hour, in the form of spending an hour doing daily quests and donating the profits to the guild bank.
Or, in this case, set tax to 100% for an hour and go shoot some mans.
I disagree with this, I have no problem with a normal 1-5% tax, but I would rather donate a spare chunk of cash from time to time, than possibly have the only hour I am able to log on and play during the day go entirely to the clan.
Especially since I won't be getting anything out of the clan aside from a chat channel.
I rolled an assault, they are really fun if your team supports you in the front lines. If your medic is a retard and doesn't heal (Seriously, many dont.) than it can kind of suck. Or if you end up on pub team that is 70% recons and you're the only assault pushing forward you can end up dead a lot.
I had one pug game where I had an average of 1.5 medics glued to my ass for the entire game. I was an unstoppable killing machine.
Also, lots of assaults suck and think "I'll alt-fire and we'll see who dies first!" is a viable tactic.
e:
As a bomber you could be nuking defensive position/mining the enemy's routes to important locations, slowing them down and giving your team the advantage. As a sniper you could be helping to clear nests from long distance, and picking off minigun assaults who are shooting at your team.
As a melee recon you are running around killing robotics or explosive assaults who for some reason are by themselves, and probably not a real threat. Anything else is either just going to avoid you(other recons), or destroy you(minigun assault, medics).
Sorry Hiro, melee recons aren't good anymore.
Well, don't know what to tell you. I play melée and always try to keep in the middle of the fray. Grenades to soften opponents, a few quick strokes to take them out, stealth, rinse, repeat. Typically high on the death charts but also typically in the top three overall in objective points, damage, and kills.
Of course, things may be different in Conquest, so I'm withholding final judgement, but thus far I'm really having a good time with it.
I would definitely support the idea the generally melee recons are not a good thing, but I've played with Hiro and he does well at it. Recons generally threaten me the least by far when I encounter one as a medic, but there have been occasions where a melee recon player will just rock my world. It is reaaaally rare, but a player can be good at it. If nothing else, having someone on the team to find/kill the other teams beacon is great.

Yeah, medics are absolutely the bane of the recon. I can often take assaults and robotics, but medics give me frickin' heartburn.
i dont even see a real reason to load the dome city crap.
just give me a menu based interface. making me walk places and load textures is assinine.
That's really pretty true. They didn't do anything useful with Dome City, but they seem to think they have to have it to keep the MMO-feel. They really need to add a lot more content that you can do while waiting in queue or whatever.
So... what does it "feel" like. It looks fun and everyone in here seems to enjoy it, but what does the gameplay feel like? UT? TF2? Not "feel" like a shooter at all?
I don't want to drop money on something that I'm just not going to enjoy playing.

At least the at-work crew can take comfort in the fact that they are not really missing anything yet. Looks like server crashes will keep people from reaching level fuck too soon.

It does feel like a shooter, though you are in 3rd person. Most people compare it to TF2 because it is class based and has a similar feel, apart from the jetpack element. The maps are designed differently, mostly to account for this vertical mobility I think, but so far I have found all the maps to be designed well.

Cool, thanks. When you shoot mans... do they die? or is this one of those games where you will need 3 people simultaneously focusing someone to bring them down?
As far as combat goes does most combat take place at long, medium or short range.
A lot of jumping and shooting at each other or do people stay grounded?
Sorry if these are crazy nitpicky questions, I really wish they had a demo available so I could just try quick and see if I like the feel or if not.
I guess a better way to put this would be this: I really like the team aspects of TF2 and how working together actually matters and is fun. I like the visceral feel that I am actually doing damage and am powerful of something like CoD or BF. I do NOT enjoy the feel of games like Halo where everyone is jumping *constantly* and it's very floaty and it feels like it takes so much to kill a person and they always seem to just barely get away (weapons feel weak to me).
Any of that make sense? Man it's hard to articulate the type of feel you like out of a shooter

The standard machine gun does around 110 damage per hit (with I think 5 shots per second), and players have a base health of 2100. If somebody has a medic on them, though, it will generally take multiple people to take them down.
Combat generally takes place at short-range, though there are snipers and such. But it might just seem that way to me because I'm one of those guys who has half a brain and gets on the fucking objective.
There is no bunny-hopping. Jumping fucks up your accuracy and after the first jump will almost completely sap your forward momentum.
Gameplay is very similar to TF2 with respect to objectives and classes and such. I expect a little more variety than I've seen so far as we level up (I didn't beta so level 10's been my limit so far). As for mechanics, TF2 gameplay feels "tighter" and more visceral to me, so I'd characterize GA as TF2 Lite when it comes to the shooting part. It's still highly enjoyable, plus, with the limit of 4 peeps in PvE it makes having a well balanced and well played team much more important, so that's a plus on GA vs. TF2 (of course there's no PvE in TF2, so maybe that's not fair 8-) ). Then there's the jetpack, which adds all sorts of possibilities us TF2 vets haven't considered. Then there's the energy mechanic of GA vs. ammo of TF2...I suppose I could go on, but suffice to say, I've been enjoying myself. Plus, I never seem to get TF2 drops, so being able to get stuffs in GA satisfies the loot whore in me.
Are login servers having issues? Just downloaded this and the scrolling text says servers are up, but I keep getting the "can't connect to server" message.
I kinda want to be a medic, but from everything you guys have been posting that may not be the best choice. I dunno, I usually play healers WHAT DO I DO PA!?!?

When I get all steamed up I don't do shit
Because I don't have a medic and I can't move a bit.
I like these guys.
Can I get an invite to the steam group please? http://steamcommunity.com/id/TheX5
Looking forward to this game bigtime, must shoot many mans.

I made an assault dude.
Been looking at it for a little bit, and it just sounds like a good times to be had.
hours! go by faster damn you!
I think there was a kill cam in one of the betas but it got removed. Or so some forum posts say in the official one.
I disagree, kill cam would just give away the position of the already very fragile sniper recon.

I'm assuming just launch day login server issues?
Ah well, some launch day elves are to be expected.
Also i am now permanently affixed to being a medic.
