Initially they were pretty awesome, but players a very quick to learn how much they suck. The 180 degree radius is easily exploited and they don't fire far enough. Either I put them in a spot where it's easy to get around them, or I put them in a spot where it's easy to snipe them. My new turret, the cannon, has HALF the radius for not even double the range. It doesn't make a large difference.
Recons can shut down my turrets or just, you know, stealth behind me and kill them. Assaults can just go invulnerable to get behind them. Or they can bring a second assault and kill the thing (with health talents) insultingly fast.
I'm finding it more useful to bring Rank IV force fields and med stations. A rank three Eye drone is instantly deployed and does respectable damage.

Can you shield turrets? How many can you drop at once?

Eh, I wouldn't say so. They're easy to counter when out alone, but they can hold points pretty decently if backed up by a few guys
I see Robotics dudes popping out defenses everywhere, I see the ninjas running around going apeshit killing everything, medics doing their thing..
But I was only level 5 and apparently I was in a match with mostly 8-11's...
But yeah, the tutorials are a joke. You can seriously skip them. They teach you nothing.
I am getting a very DDO vibe from the PVE missions.
The content overall lacks polish. I really hope they've got some major patch coming out soon.
On other news, this chews up my GF9400, so I am getting some third party drivers and trying again!
Assault is the meat sheild. You are there to suck up the damage as the Medic heals you. You just need a Medic friend.... well I need an Assault friend to heal....
Can you shield turrets? How many can you drop at once?
You drop one Turret at a time. You can have multiple turrets which allows for overlapping cooldowns.
You can shield them, but the player will just kill you and laugh as he anally violates the turret.
The fact is that I'm alone most of the time. Players don't sit behind to defend, so I generally die to a pack of recons or something. Recon way overplayed right now, and it's frustrating. I really thing they should have added a better drone early on, as I'd prefer that playstyle.
Another sort of "wtf" moment I had is how a stronger opponent can engage you in melee, and as soon as you raise your block (which, at least on Assault, slows you), they can switch to their rifle and gun you down very, very, very quickly, and the melee block doesn't seem to affect ranged attacks.
I got the very distinct impression as Assault that the minigun is pretty much the most awful gun ever. It gets better once you get the nade launcher, which is great for hitting emplacements and smacking multiple dudes, and then you get the magma rocket launcher thing, which has become my mainstay. It does 500 on a direct hit (~600 scoped), and leaves a burning DoT on the person it hits. The initial damage and the DoT damage correlate to how close your hit was, of course; enemies caught in the splash will take 50% or less damage. I often see DoT ticks of 1.
But the gold of it is that even that 1 DoT tick will keep Recons visible when they try to stealth away. I've gotten a dozen Recon kills simply because the DoT fucked them over.
As to turrets, I don't really think that they're underpowered. My first character today was a Robotics that I took up to 10, and with support, your turret can last a damned long time, and lock down points. Depending on where you put it, you can even last solo/duo for long stretches. My setup was a III Rifle, a IV Repair gun, a IV Turret, and a IV Medcrate. Put the turret in one of the many sheds, pointed towards the control point, and the medcrate sequestered a little farther back. The angles of the shed make sniping the turret down a pain (or just impossible on some maps), and the medcrate can push out some impressive healing. Lone recons generally had a tough time taking it out, because any bomb damage they dealt would be healed in a single tick, and if they went for the turret, I had a decent chance of killing them before they could do enough damage.
I was undoubtedly helped by having a medic friend on call half the time, though, so YMMV.
If I have a Medic, it's fine. Personally, I did better by having a shield, Eye Drone and Med. Only Assaults could take me down, and that's if my drone was down. Recons would have to deal with the med.
My feeling is, from only like 3 PVP matches, that turrets in this game are very much how they are in TF2. In that they are very very very powerful when left alone, but 2 or 3 people working together can basically destroy them instantly.
My minigun is allegedly very good against turrets and if the robotics dude is standing behind a crate healing it, I don't have a chance, even at medium range.
I think that they obviously have a very important role in capture point maps.
Given that, if I were to play Robotics, I'm the kind of guy who will put the turret in some random ass place where people don't expect one and rack up free kills. Like on TOP of the control point building on that little ridge in back where the stealthers like to go.

Get the +energy pool size talent, will help you do more damage, since you can even use the primary fire then.
The trick to assault is to bring a robotics with the energy shield, you can do some insane damage at close range with the chaingun. This is PvE of course, haven't been able to do pvp yet. Medics are helpful to, but its not TF2, you cant get wither the fire at low levels even with healing.
It's not as good as a TF2 sentry. Well, it certainly can kill as fast, but it's very easy to solo one if the dude is alone. They definitely increase the defense of any point that has dudes, but it's not like an engineer with a sentry nest. Not nearly that potent alone.
Two Robos with personal turrets back-to-back are rather potent, however.
I think the short-range big arc turret really shines when you have the fast deploy skill. I can get one up in a few seconds and it decimates crowd fights. With the level 4 building arm it can take some serious fire assuming I have energy.

Yeah, I generally sneak it in now and by the time people realize it's going up they can't do crap about it. I'm tempted to toss in the Rank 1 Force Field for when that revelation occurs.
1-10 you will level up every couple of games, with experience rewards ranging from ~1500-2500, depending on if you win/lose, and your personal achievements/score.
I think 9->10 (or is it 10->11?) is something like 10k experience. Slows down a bit, then, but before that, it feels very quick. Hell, on your first character, you'll probably not even notice the experience bar because you'll be having too much fun. That was how it was with me, at least.
I think robo will pay off when you hit rocket turret
that thing is a killer on the payload maps I've played
also hint, don't buy armor. Save your cash, and go buy Upgrades. You can find the shop to the left of the skill augmentation shop. Upgrades increase damage, range, and reduce power usage and cooldown on weapons and increase your armor. Epic upgrades cost 10000 each, but I can see them doing a lot if you get a full set
I got 2 so far + the 2 skills that increase my minigun range and reduce its power usage, and I can tell once I get the full set and the third skill that increases damage, the minigun will be ripping shit apart.
Not sure what it's talking about when it says topics and crafting and all that. Maybe you can use them to craft other stuff. But I just buy the epics, then goto the Upgrade tab and apply them like armor or dyes

Eh so far money isn't so slow that it would really matter, as long as you don't want the 50k armor.
Good to know about the upgrades though.
I almost have enough to craft some leg armor, just need a few more of the uncommon second item.
Posts
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
I would be interested.
What's your steam tag?
I am interested in being the third.. I am literally at the purchase screen right now... kinda was hoping to play tonight.
My Steam tag is Jasconius
Aumni
But I won't be on tonight, I'm at a friend's and leaving in 5.. I'm going to be at the casino. If you're ready to go tonight just find another 4th :=
Quick, somebody tell me how bad it is!

Downloading it right now, in-game name is Zolnab.

I don't really see any way an Assault can be productive without a healer... unless the next weapons in the tree are awesome.
The slow spinup time and reduced movement speed from the minigun makes... PVP a very bad experience.
I think they need to do sumtin' about that.
I've been blown to pieces in seconds by an Assault with the incendiary rocket launcher. Pop pop pop dead.
That's comforting. The servers appear to have crashed, so I am going to be done for the night.

1) All the screenshots I've seen are in the 3rd person. I'd just like to confirm that you can play in 1st person?
2) How quick is the leveling?

You can't play in first person. But really, not sure if you'd want to. The melee stuff sort of requires it.
Leveling... seems comparable to Warhammer Online at the lower levels.
I have no idea what our Medics were doing.

It also is kinda vague. I did buy something, and will continue to.
Sadly it doesn't make your stuff construct faster, but it's handy in a pinch for building under fire.
