She dumped me 18 months ago, but I don't know anyone on the east coast and actually neither does she so we mutually recognized it'd be more fun to party together around New Year's even though we kind of in a way hate each other at this point.

This was a thoroughly shitty Christmas.
Not only do I feel terrible that I had to eat a small dinner and then try and rest for the afternoon, but upon waking up and deciding to go to a movie with my sister I step outside and find out, while I was asleep, it had rained (and froze) causing the steps to be sheer ice and me to go tumbling down the stairs.
My neck and back are already stiff, I dread to think what they'll be like tomorrow.

Then my dad and step mom were fighting pretty viciously (almost got physical, actually) and I had to navigate around that. I can't literally 'get between them', because my dad is so prideful and he'll see that as me trying to step up to his throne or whatever. I could absolutely wreck him but he's not fifty yet and it destroys his ego to know I could, so he'd take me asking him to relax the wrong way and probably take a swing. No way I could kick his ass in front of my 10 year old sister- not that I'd want to hit my dad, anyway.
I mean, of course in perspective I had a nice, hot meal... roof over my head... relative good health. Plenty of people spent tonight in a shelter or worse, hungry.
But still, sucks. Christmas is usually my favorite holiday, too.

No way I could kick his ass in front of my 10 year old sister- not that I'd want to hit my dad, anyway.
I mean, of course in perspective I had a nice, hot meal... roof over my head... relative good health. Plenty of people spent tonight in a shelter or worse, hungry.
But still, sucks. Christmas is usually my favorite holiday, too.
On the up side my sister was... surprisingly decent!
I think she's spoiled rotten versus how she behaves, but even so. It's just absurdly gratifying and... edifying, even, on some abstract level, to see a child so full of consuming joy- where there's no room in their expression for anything but joy.
