I'm a Brit and i'm probably writing my Masters degree dissertation on Nerdcore. I'm really debating the plane fare to come to PaxEast right now. I could hold off and save up for Nerdapalooza but that'd be when i need to be writing the thing, and PAX itself is in september, less than a month before my due date.
And of course the PaxEast tix are cheaper right now.
What do people think? If i head over to the States, will I manage to get any kind of help with my research? I'm hoping once there's a schedule up that I can somehow persuade some performers to talk to me for a few minutes about everything.
Plus there's that alone in a big foreign city thing going for it.
So, can anyone give me a heads up? Think it would be worth my time and money?

No idea how much it will be worth to you, but I think it's pretty likely that you'll be able to get some time to interview performers.

PAX East is in March, not september. I hope you weren't banking on that fact. As an aside, you should write off the plane fair and con admission fees as research expenses. You could totally get away with that, I've seen worse done. *evilgrin*
Thanks guys.
Sadly, I don't think i can write off the expenses. That would assume I got any kind of money for my work, and I don't. Basically I'm just trying to decide whether the trip is worth it before the ticket price goes up!
Then I can start looking at hotels and flights. Pretty sure it'll be £500 for flights, including a train to and from the airport.
Oh, and I'd like to talk to everyone and everyone about nerdcore, not just performers. I just figured I'd get more word count out of performers. You never know.

If you can get Khoo's attention either here on the boards or through his email, he may be willing to help you get some face time with the performers.
Are you there Khoo? It's me mentok. Can you help a baelion out?
Yeah, I think it's a good idea. PAX is definitely one-of-a-kind, and there are chances to talk with the panel speakers. I know I have a great time, at least
