Is there a limit to when your main stat starts to taper off in effectiveness when it comes to boosting weapon damage? Like, after a while the notice is negligible? Generally I get the idea that around 30 you're at a pretty good spot.

I have heard something to this effect, but looked around just now and was unable to confirm for sure. But yeah, around 30 or so.

I asked this on SA too and they said that 40 is the "limit" for most stats. Around 40 the benefits of buffing it higher are a lot less noticeable. Vitality is the exception with it dropping off at around 30 and Endurance maxing out Stamina at 40.

Sounds good. I had gotten my faith to 30 and had started pumping Vitality and Endurance but I guess I will put some more points into faith :)

Got the game today (turns out they got it in the store TODAY), and rolled my first character, a Royal. I got 30 minutes in, died, and had to hand the console over to my sister. I then spent the next hour and a half telling her what to do.

    I love this game.

I'd say do 1-2 first. Just time your runs and take the tunnels if possible (watch out for dogs).

The miners in 2-1 are weak to piercing weapons.

Also, I managed to beat the game ^_^ Now to do it a couple more times.

Sounds good, ive been using my falchion+3 primarily, but i really should wrap my head around "every character is just stats" and that thyeres nothing holding me back from switching it up.

Yeah, for World 2 you're gonna want a spear or rapier. You'll be able to finish them pretty easy with those. A Falchion won't do shit for ya.

True enough, but he just said it was +3, which to me says the basic upgrade path.

But yeah, Crescent will rock them. Basically, anything other than a normal weapon.

Keep posting guys, I'm at work and playing vicariously through you guys right now.

Bows do seem incredibly overpowered once you get an amazing bow, I'm using a white bow +5 until I can get a vicious compound bow going strong and it still just demolishes most enemies.

You upgraded that all the way to +5? That's a lot of Colorless Demon Soul's. D: It doesn't even do any scaling past the first upgrade, I think.

I had the white bow at +3 before I realised this and then just kept going for the trophy because at this point I am using the meat cleaver, the bow (until I get that vicious bow) and a quality winged spear. Nothing really unique in the lot at this time.

Lucky bastard. I gotta worry about upgrading Adjudicator's Shield, Large Sword of Moonlight, and possibly Istarelle to upgrade. The Faith build seems pretty Colorless Soul intensive.

I wish you could upgrade the meat cleaver but it has some insane stat scaling so I'm not too miffed about it. I have about 26 strength, 28 dex and 26 faith so that thing does some crazy damage.

I feel like such a flavour of the month now that you guys have all said that you're doing Faith builds :(
At least I know that I'll definitely be playing through this again - I'd love to see how different the game is for a full caster type character.

Heh, yeah, it does seem to be the trend at the moment. I think once I am satisfied with my faith character I'm going to roll up a pure mage. A buddy of mine played one while I was leveling my first guy (Temple Knight focused on Strength) and he was insanely useful to have around.

Just started a new Royal last night, went straight to 4-1 after downing phalanx and very carefully worked my way through to get the crescent falchion before returning to do 1-2.

I have a problem now though, every other character has ended up with PWWT by the time I kill the boss in 1-2, opening the left path just inside 1-1. This time it's still closed, and I don't think I've done anything to shift it towards black (suiciding in the nexus). I guess I must have logged in the nexus?

Any suggestions for shifting world 1 towards white easily? I really want the binded armor.

Either logged out in the nexus or potentially died in World 1.

But yeah, after beating Tower Knight you should Pure White. I did that earlier today.

 Is there anyone not playing a faith based build other than vagrant in this thread?

Second character will be either dagger/claw/something bleed + plague build. Or a full on battle mage, 2h crescent weapon, pole from 3-1 PBWT for mana regen, etc.

But really, I love the shit out of the BBS.

Killing the dragon does indeed push it towards white. That's why it's possible to get PWT without killing a third boss.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

So I got invaded for the first time tonight. I keep forgetting that after killing a boss that I get my body back and can be invaded if I don't suicide. Unfortunately, playing the PvP in this simply isn't even remotely viable as an Aussie. He did a first assault on me and I was pumping his ass pretty hard, but then he ran away to heal up, came back and just kept rolling around me, I got absolutely smashed. On my screen, none of his hits even came close to hitting me. I must be rocking a 1k+ ping to the American servers or something. Boo.

On a plus side, I downed 2-2, 2-3 and 5-2. I got my LSoM! Jesus fuck that thing is enormous, almost impractically so. Pretty damn slow too. I'm not sure how much I like the speed of it after using the Blessed Mace +1 for the last ~20 soul levels. I'm a little disappointed by it, but it is pretty smash-fucky.

Ugh, I missed out on like half of the Brushwood set because I'm dumb. I even read about another poster making the same mistake, yet I fucked up anyway.

I managed to pick up the helmet, shield and BP then became overloaded. I realized at that point that if I left the level the items would disappear. I panicked and tried reloading, but that just dropped me in the exact same spot and the items vanished D:

I guess I'm waiting till later when that other guy drops it. I suppose it's not a big deal because I don't have enough END to wear that set yet anyway.

I almost got my Winged Spear to +7. Scraping spear here I come! I'm gonna be such an asshole.

Pretty sure, yeah. You take the right tunnel at the beginning of the level, drop down a couple of platforms, and he should be sitting right next to some crystal geckos in a dead end tunnel.

Soo apparently you can't transfer characters between different systems, at least not that I know of. Which I kind of expected but unfortunately means that my character I started over break is stuck on my brothers PS3 and I have to start a new one. I think I am going to go with royalty, any suggestions for starting out? I was a thief before and just kind of winged it.

Do you plan on using magic or faith at all? If so, then yes, Royalty is probably the best choice. If you're going to be pure melee, one of the heavier armored class choices may be a better choice.

See, my problem is the games almost... Easy. I use soul arrow (or whatever its called) and the majority of the enemies die in 2 or 3 hits, the harder ones, after learning their attacks, are easy to beat. I'm currently trucking through... I guess its 2-2, (place with the flamelurker, I don't know how the worlds go), and so far, the only problems I've had in that level was that goddamn jumping/platforming puzzle you have to do to get down to him. I died like... 8 times on that because I was stupid. And, thats so far the only level I've died that much on, I've done 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, and died a total of like... 15-20 times, mostly due to stupid mistakes (I.E. falling damage, and switching to the wrong item, (I.E. getting out my catalyst when I wanted to get out my shield T.T)).

That being said, Armor spider is damn easy with magic :P, same with Flamelurker (although I still haven't beaten him YET. I've gotten him down pretty low, low enough to know that I can do it, but I just don't want to at the moment.

Also, the miners are easy. I love how I can backstab six in a row without the others turning around.

Yeah, when I was rolling on my first character I almost always had my friend with me who rolled a pure mage. It turned many of the levels/bosses into easy mode. So I've been having to relearn alot of how to play this time around.

Armor Spider is easy for any class. Just stand against the wall and break out a bow. Same with Leechmonger.

Personally, I had no difficulty with Flamelurker. I used a spear so that I could keep my Purple Flame Shield up the entire time. Throw in a Regenerator Ring and I barely had to heal.

In other news, I started NG+ last night and started actually doing levels in Body Form. The extra health and ring are very nice and I'm enjoying fighting off Black Phantoms so far

I almost managed to use the Forward+R1 shove attack to push one into the pit in 1-1. Which would have been an awesomely dirty move. I'm looking forward to invading 5-1 :)
