Hows about some great Thunderbolt moments, with a touch of Valentine's Day to it:

More Valentine's Day goodness, from Matt Fraction's Spectacular Spider-Man Annual.
Following the Civil War, Peter is prepared to give up, and have Mary Jane and Aunt May turn him into the authorities.

That's the Spectacular Spider-Man Annual Fraction/Larocca did during Civil War.

And now, more super awesome mega Thunderbolts stuff!, like how Hawkeye makes people join his team, and some of the first signs of Zemo starting to be awesome and why Brubaker's upcoming plans for Helmut super sucks:

    tb50a.jpg

    tb50b.jpg

    tb50c.jpg

And then on Counter Earth (Franklin Richards' earth), the old T-Bolts team arrives and Zemo takes over the body of his Counter Earth double (who was that earth's Iron Cross hero):

    tb64b.jpg

"....Trust" And then the plan works.

Hawkeye, thinking the T-Bolts team died, recruits some villains along with Songbird to stop the Crimson Cowl:

And then another Super duper awesome super long Thunderbolts stuff!, where we get witty banter, emotional scenes, and Kevin Costner! This was from the last few issues of the original run (the last issues was double sized plus a page), before Marvel screwed it all up with a fight club concept:

Someone recently reposted one of my favorite scenes ever on S_D to the new site. From Uncanny X-Men #171 when Binary returns to visit the X-Men.

Their other guest was, naturally, Rogue. Apparently they greet guests differently in space and it rubbed off on Carol.

    Short answer: Yes.

Just like Carol can (such as when she killed a Skrull during SI by dragging it into orbit and watching it die before flying back to the battle.

Agreed, in fact that whole issue ammounts to an "awesome moment" in my book. Easily one of the best things (of only a very few) to happen during the Secret Invasion.

I just thought it made Carol look like a fucked-up psycho when she watched the Skrull die and enjoyed it. Seemed very out of character to me.

People seem to forget that it's the idea of warriors never killing people that is strange. To have someone kill an enemy invader whose goal is the annihilation of your culture and to take some sort of in-the-moment pleasure from that is not weird. It's very human.

Afterwards, you might either feel guilty (even if not for the killing but for how you felt) or something, but not in the moment.

Indeed. Carol's a cold-blooded warrior/killer . All the moping and silly goosery is just a distraction from that fact. The fact that Osborn offered to keep her on his Avengers speaks volumes.

It and X-Men Legacy were the only good X-Books for the past 18 months or so. It's Jeff Parker, writing better work than his Atlas stuff.

X-Men Legacy is good if you have knowledge of the X-Men and you kind of want to read someone tell a good story while fixing others messes. It is the This Old House of comics, and while it isn't full of shit eating Land traced grins about how kewl SF is, there's something interesting in how Carey takes one annual and fixes both Northstar and his sister's recent characterization/continuity screw ups, as well as making Exodus actually try and fix the mutant problem but can't. If I was wearing a hat while I read the book, I would be tipping it a lot, and that's not just a city in China hurp durp.

And I never said Parker wrote bad Atlas stuff, only First Class is better. Boo-yah.

It wasn't that good, it was just a way to move from A to B with the X-Men. Pretty Silvestri and Dodson art though.

And Ares getting punked by Dani Moonstone, that made no sense. Even if she was borrowing some of Hela's powers that's not enough to beat a guy who is Thor (minus Odinforce) levels powerful.

Ares is not Thor level at all, but her certainly shouldn't have lost to a Valkyrie. Ares should have beaten Dani Moonstone into a bloody, broken-feather spiked pulp, but honestly he was a bit of a jobber before his end, and actually he had a respectively better showing against an enemy who is far more powerful than him than he has had against guys he should mush completely.

it seems to me that ares should be roughly around non-odinforce thor levels of power. i mean, he's essentially a god of fighting and destruction. all thor does is rain.

I agree with you, Gods of War (especially Ares like ones who are all about getting up in your face and then smashing it in with something heavy and sharp) should be able to beat up non-gods of war. Thor is god of Thunder, hence his weather control powers, but Tyr and Ares should be able to take him out in hand to hand.

Sadly, Thor has pretty much been made to be the bestest most powerful god at everything (apart from the skyfathers), which if you think about it is kind of lame. On paper Thor is much, much stronger than Ares, has a superior weapon, is probably faster and tougher, and can zap Ares with lightning too.
