And Ares getting punked by Dani Moonstone, that made no sense. Even if she was borrowing some of Hela's powers that's not enough to beat a guy who is Thor (minus Odinforce) levels powerful.
Well, I thought Utopia was a damn good story, but I've generally liked what Fraction has done with the X-Men.
As far as Dani beating down Ares goes, Rogue had already sucked a lot of power out of him, and if I remember it right, she and Gambit had already hurt him, so it's not like he was at 100%. And even if Ares is Thor-level power, Thor himself has been pretty evenly matched in his fights with the original Valkyrie. It was my understanding that Dani had gotten her Valkyrie powers back from Hela.
Agreed, in fact that whole issue ammounts to an "awesome moment" in my book. Easily one of the best things (of only a very few) to happen during the Secret Invasion.
I just thought it made Carol look like a fucked-up psycho when she watched the Skrull die and enjoyed it. Seemed very out of character to me.
People seem to forget that it's the idea of warriors never killing people that is strange. To have someone kill an enemy invader whose goal is the annihilation of your culture and to take some sort of in-the-moment pleasure from that is not weird. It's very human.
Afterwards, you might either feel guilty (even if not for the killing but for how you felt) or something, but not in the moment.
There's a difference between just killing an enemy and hanging around to enjoy watching somebody die.
So does anyone have any awesome moments to share or
I'm kind of in a dry spell right now.
Well, I have been looking for an excuse to talk about Phil hester and Brian Churilla's The Anchor. For anyone unaware, the comic stars "God's leg-breaker," a giant whose soul guards the gates of Hell, while his body tracks down demons on Earth, murders them, and then eats their hearts.
In this issue, he beats up a volcano.
By the by, the first TPB of The Anchor will soon be available for just $10. I think it's actually available now at comic shops and book stores.

Holy shit, this is wonderful.
If that abortion joke is par for the course in that book I may have to pick one or two issues up.
The art in Image United has been a ton of fun, as you'd probably expect, especially if you read comics in the 90's. But the writing of Chris G's backup has actually been better than the main book. Again, as you'd expect.
Dude goes from working on Spider-Man, to working on Spawn, who shares a similarly-designed mask, and has chains that aren't totally unlike Spider-Man's weblines. But, he has the interesting caveat to his powers that he's slowly wearing them down with every use.
Then after Spawn kind of dies down, he comes back on the scene with Haunt, co-created with Kirkman. And who's Haunt? Another guy strongly derivative of both Spider-Man and Spawn, who is slowly killing himself and depleting his powers the more he uses them. Oh, but he teams up with his ghostly brother, so that's interesting. Except Haunt launched very close to the same time as Doctor Voodoo, which had the same gimmick.
I like Haunt, and used to dig Spawn as a kid, but I still find the whole thing pretty funny.
I like that the main character in Haunt is a priest in some really fucked up situations, but that's about all I like. And even that aspect isn't as cool as Kirkman's Battle Pope.

short little thing from Man-Thing
Manny, Korrek the Barbarian, Dakimh the Enchanter, and Jennifer Kale have successfully stopped Thog the Nether-Spawn from reaching the land of the gods, and ended up there themselves.
from hatter M, a dark fantasy take on alice in wonderland. no idea what the source novel is like, but pretty templesmith art makes the graphic adaptation a good read.
here the hatter, chief royal bodyguard has lost both princess alyss and his bladed hat in the real world. i like how here he applies wonderlands rules to the mundane world...
also, some hat-based violence, just in case you were wondering...
I actually enjoyed the first source novel, and Templesmith's art was really nice in Hatter M, but I'm not sure I'd have understood the story at all, without having first read The Looking Glass Wars. It has a pretty fractured narrative.
If I could make a request - 2 scenes from the Lovers and Madmen. The first is where Alfred is building the Bat-computer and the second is where Batman is talking to Dr. Crane.
"I've read every book on criminology and I can't predict his movements. I can't find a pattern! Why not?!"
"Well, that's easy ... he's insane."
The look on Batman's face when he makes this realization is what makes it an Awesome Moment (tm).

Punisher was such a great source of moments in the last thread, such as the sword gun, and the polar bear from welcome back frank. Shit, all of Welcome Back Frank is an awesome moment in itself.

And Frankencastle is pretty much one gigantic awesome moment.
At one time the Punisher was popular enough that he had a title called Punisher: Armory, which was nothing but pictures of guns, with Frank talking about them. I know you might think that'd be awful, but you are wrong.
And here's some of my favorite bits from Punisher 2099 #1, which I read so, so many times as a kid. It wasn't until much later that I tracked down the rest of the series and discovered it pretty quickly became unreadable, but to eight year old me, this was the shit.
First, the police recount some of the Punisher's recent murders. For those wondering, the Punisher uses a device to cloak his face, so omnipresent security cameras only show his face as a pixelized skull.
And here's the last two pages of the issue.
Despite the totally ridiculous last page, I still love the setup of that scene, and Frank's final words in his War Journal.
