Installed game, installed patch 1.02a directly after, launched game from launcher menu no problem, played 3-4 hours having fun so far, save, quit, go eat, game won't launch, went to dragon age forum find similar problem from patch 1.01 something download file vcredist_x86.exe and installed as unofficial trouble shoot guide suggested, game still dosen't launch. tried to launch from DVD no luck.

Please help me smart people of intelligence and tech fu +1

I would put the error message here but it won't let me copy and paste from anywhere in the error message, to they get stored on my PC somewhere?

For whatever it's worth, I had pretty much the same issue and tried all sorts of voodoo magic (and suggested fixes) trying to get the game to work again - nothing seemed to help. Reinstalled and patched repeatedly while performing various chants, dances, sacrifices, etc. all to no avail.

After like 8 hours of that shit, I'd had enough and reinstalled without patching, which worked perfectly!

Also: our hardware has basically nothing in common, so I doubt that's got much to do with it.

I had to update my video card drivers to get it to start - have you tried that?

Well it seems i can de and reinstall the game and upon finishing the install it will launch then, I don't know why it let me patch the first time but not now!

Basically the "launcher application" has errors I beleive not sure how to fix them.

I have a workaround but its a klodge I make sure I have the saves backup and just de and reinstall the game everytime I want to play.

DLC I'm just NOT going to touch that shit has so many problems right now apparently.

Anyone no anything about the launcher?

The first couple of lines of the actual error message would be a huge help. Right now we know that the launcher is boned, but we dont know why or how. Without an actual error message, all you'll get is guesses.

I know its a pain, but if you have to, get a pen and paper and record it old school style.

Hello again just wanted to say I apreciate the help this is already far more helpful than Bioware or EA's forums have been, as n they were no help at all!

    AppName: daoriginslauncher.exe AppVer: 1.1.0.14 ModName: qasf.dll
    ModVer: 11.0.5721.5145 Offset: 00010778

was on the error message window thsi is the very firts part of the report

    exception information

    code 0xc0000005 flags 0x0000000
    record 0x0000000000000000 address 0x0000000010b00778

    Is that any help?

Does anyone know how to get the actual report as text ctrl-c when in the window does nothing plus cannot copy paste, do these reports go live anywhere i can drag em out of? Maybe that would be more use

seems like such a great game shame about the problems

Badass, okay so thats a DirectX error.

    So right off the bat,

    reinstall Direct X from http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/aboutGFW/pages/directx.aspx

after that, hit Start, then Run, type in DXDIAG, then hit enter.

Give it a few seconds to build the report, and then check every tab for any problems listed in the Notes field.

Let us know if it says anything.

Nothing about problems in the notes section of any tab. They all say no problems found

Ok so lets see if its the launcher thats boned, or direct X.

Right click the launcher icon and choose properties. Hit the Open File location button and that should automatically take you to the dragon age folder.

From there, open the bin_ship folder and double click the daorigins.exe file. This should launch the game manually without the launcher. See if it also gives an identical failure in qasf.dll

I can also just place a shortcut to the exe on my desktop which makes me wonder just what the launcher is for exactly?

The launcher just brings up a splash screen with options for the website, uninstall, support and configure. Its not really needed, but its in vogue right now with a lot of developers.

qasf.dll is part of the direct show - a function thats bundled with direct X.

If the launcher isnt a big deal to you, then bypass it, use the shortcut, and problem solved.

Great thanks very much for your help! One last thing sometimes the game crashes and I get the same message that the launcher has failed. Which seems odd.

I've had issues with the launcher as well, doesn't seem to like Windows 7 from what I can tell.
