World of Warcraft [refundings]

I'd like to know if you think this situation warrants a refund and if refunds from Blizzard are a possibility.

I've had a WoW account, probably, for over 4yrs. I haven't had to change anything until I reactivate my account today and learned that now I need to merge my WoW account with a Battle.net account.

I create a Battle.net account (which is bullsh*t, btw) and am informed that an "activation" email will be forthcoming. I wait. No email. I resend the activation email needed to verify my authenticity and complete my Battle.net account registration. I wait. No email.

So, at this point, I've paid for a service that I'm unable to access due to some sort of technical error. But, to be honest, I'm tired of this sh*t. I don't want to play anymore. I canceled my account, won't attempt to fix or log into my account, and simply want my funds returned to me.

I'd say it depends how big of a refund you're expecting - obviously you don't deserve a refund of 4 years of service. If you've paid for a month that you won't be able to use, and your use has been prohibited by their technical error, then yes you deserve a refund. If this is a matter of "the email takes an hour or two to get there and hasn't shown up yet" and you cancelled before that time had passed, then no you don't.

You're jumping the gun - have you checked spam folders etc.? Who's your email provider?

And if you want a refund you can call their Billing department and discuss it with them, toll free. 1-800-59-BLIZZARD. Although odds are after 5 seconds on the phone they'll walk you through the process that made you quit.

Your ability to get a refund generally depends on the strength of will (not anger) you're able to apply to your cause. That's why my Jewish grandmother can get practically anything refunded, but if you're expecting reason and rationality to get your $15 back, good luck.

That said without reason and rationality your will is not worth much.

at best they'll credit you for the time the game was inaccessible to you because of the account snafu. Which will mean you account will be active for another 2-3 (or however long) before it expires.

which is worthless to you if you don't want to play anymore

Yes, it was interesting. Apparently, the default wait time is one hour. So, I'm carrying this phone around everywhere I go, 45 minutes pass, I go to sit on the couch and my finger brushes the "Talk" button. Silence... FUCK!

I redial, but this time the recorded lady-voice apologizes, informs me that they cannot take my call at this time and hangs up. Uh, okay. I call back and luckily get the default "one hour wait time" message and am placed on hold again. However, the phone battery has gotten low, so I'm forced to hang up and recharge the damn thing.

After that, I decided to send an email, but have not received a response. It's been about 8hrs since I attempted to register a Battle.net account. I went to town, ran some errands, went to church, came home and had still not received an email so I canceled it about 45 minutes ago.

Is your contact information (on your WoW account, not your battle.net account completely accurate? Is the email address in which account-related emails are sent the same as the address you're checking?

You can't refund a subscription fee with WoW unless you agree to have your account banned for something like 30 or 60 days.

I had a hilarious incident where I canceled my sub on the bill date, and it billed anyway, and I had to agree to have my account banned to get the money back.

Then 6 months later when I came back I had to call them up to get them to unban it.

    That's acceptable.

Yes, my email addresses are the same on both accounts. Also, I'm by my lonesome this Christmas, so I don't have much to do; which is primarily the reason I reactivated my account after being gone for 6 months.

you accidentally hang up while waiting on hold for a not-unreasonable amount of time, given that you're calling ON CHRISTMAS EVE, and that's somehow blizzard's fault?

As far as not getting the email activation, there are dozens of reasons why an email never gets to its destination, just call them and they will sort it out.

I remember when Blizzard first started the Blizzard Store/account, it took a lot of people a while to get their activation emails. I think it took me like a week or something to get mine. Isn't there a button on the Blizzard account page where you can have it resend your activation email?

If they don't give you a refund, just initiate a charge-back on your credit card, and inform Visa or whomever that Blizzard was unable to provide you the actual service you were paying for.

As for Blizzard itself, after trying to log in and reactivate an old account, and being told it was suspended, I said F-it. Not going to give them my cash. I don't want to have to sit through a call que or chase phone numbers just to be able to find out why an already frozen account was deactivated.

Small? No, that's a good point and something I've considered. If I do that and it works, I will still have paid for 3-4 days of no service and will call them to request that they reimburse me for those days.

However, after going through all this I've lost all interest in returning to Warcraft.
