this several thousand word rambling piece of shit is completely and unabashedly awful.
when someone criticizes him he responds with:
you know, i've been putting "actually talking about the game now" in giant bold letters into my articles for a couple of years, and always following it up with about two hundred words that are not actually about the game, and every fuckin' time some internet kid like yourself posts a comment with the exact number of words post-"actually talking about the game" that don't actually talk about the game, and i lol like a fuckin' conference hall full of clowns and helium!
you will never know what it is like to lol the way i lol! and that's kind of funny! and that's kind of sad!
(i bet that dream about dying is the best dream you've ever had)
Especially considering most guys who have long hair don't even try to make themselves look presentable in any other respect.
The only reason they have long hair is because they couldn't be bothered to get a haircut. And if they can't do that you can bet they aren't on top of everything else, either.
So long hair isn't really so much a cause of looking awful I guess, but more a symptom to a much larger problem.
I think it's unfair however to insinuate anyone writing about video games is a talentless hack
people are pretty quick to either worship video games to the point of fetishism or make them their secret shame that they never talk about when they're out in the "real world"

happy medium, people, find it
Maybe, but I've honestly yet to come across a writer who's chief undertaking is video games who is also a talent in their own right when compared to writers and authors of other mediums.

yeah.. why would fucking video games need "earnest journalism"
it's not like it's not highly subjective and all in all pretty unimportant
I mean, you could compare it to cinema critics if you wanted, the form of expression may be somewhat similar
But then we get to the "games as art" discussion and that just.. needs a bit more time I guess

kotaku has long been a bastion of writing for traffic rather then integrity or informing anybody
so are most big gaming news sites
or news sites in general
who cares
the only remotely interesting "gaming journalism" site I've read in years was Gamer's Quarter, and it was mostly a collection of essays on the emotional impact of gaming on the writer's youth, or stories where gaming happened to play a part in a story that was about more then just some dude sitting around pushing some buttons on a controller
this was also the first thing i wrote on kotaku thinking, all the while, "man, people are going to actually try to read this . . . :-/" so i toned down the idiocy a bit.
tbph (to be perfectly honest) i am actually not trying to make a "career" as a "writer", contrary to what some people might think. i like when these stupid things i write, just flinging stuff at the wall and watching some of it stick, get read by a nice small group of people who probably enjoy reading them the way i enjoy writing them. which is: weirdly, and in short bursts over an extended period of time.

just about everything is highly subjective and all in all pretty unimportant

I guess the escapist was okay for a little while, but then it decided it was the most important groundbreaking games writing site in the world and it planted its head firmly up its own ass, and then along came yahtze
this was also the first thing i wrote on kotaku thinking, all the while, "man, people are going to actually try to read this . . . :-/" so i toned down the idiocy a bit.

that is entirely dependent on who you are
Some pretty uninteresting words.

ie are you a neckbeard with long flowing neckbeard locks
he's also married
to a woman

not that my hair actually grows out when it's long anyway so much as curls in upon itself

that was good times
area5 is an okay replacement but isn't as interesting
long hair on a tall lanky dude just makes them look even taller and lankier
long hair on a short round dude just makes you want to start rolling him around and start a katamari
and dudes like fabio are just hilarious

smallw orld!
yeah this quote in particular made me angry
you ever read any of it?
what I look for in video game news is "what's coming out" and "who thought this game sucked how bad and why"
neither of those require a whole lot of superlative writing ability
