2K Games confirmed to 1UP that the long-awaited, much-anticipated Irrational Games first person shooter BioShock will release for the Xbox 360 and PC in June of this year. A two-week-old post at the BioShock Through the Looking Glass Forums from a user named "2K Elizabeth" who sports a "2K Games" tag below her name first mentioned the June release.
I'll let you in on the official word on the release date: June 2007.
Heard it here first. ;-)
Summer lovin' had me a blast.
Summer lovin' happened so fast...
Hell yeah.

Yes. Finally, a big summer release.
That's the last huge game I can think of that released in a June.
Xbox 360 first or PC and Xbox 360 together?
Not that I care too much...I think I'll get this for the 360.
It's really strange how the 360 has completely altered my philosophy about FPSes on a console rather than on a PC.

Of course, I'll end up getting a 360 eventually anyway. :P
I mean, as far as I know, it is one of the worst censorship scenarios on video games, killing children. How have they made it in the game without getting banned (in the same way there are no children in Oblivion)
I mean, you can club to death a 6 year old girl with a wrench. Something doesn't sit right there.

They're probably not really children.
They just look like it.
See...
Publishers aren't really worried about censorship so much as they are worried about staying within a certain ESRB rating...same with movies and MPAA. When it comes down to it, we don't have censorship in the US. What we have is pressure on publishers from major retailers as well as target demographic. It's better to get a "T" rating here because people 13+ are more inclined to get the game. With an "M" or "AO" rating, you are limiting your demographic.
I'm pretty sure Ken Levine and the rest of the folks at Irrational Games were always going for an "M" rating, so I doubt they really cared. And, there's nothing (I believe) sexual in the game, so this won't garner an "AO." Remember, the US is rather silly in that almost no violent content will outright get something an "X" or "AO" rating - but some minimal sexual content would. If Bully had a boy-boy bathroom rape scene, it probably wouldn't have even seen the light of day, but if your character could somehow slaughter everyone in the school, I think it would have possibly gotten an "AO" rating, but "M" is more likely.
Er, I just realized you are in the UK, and the UK seems to be flip-flopping on video game censorship lately, so I dunno what to say.
Am i the only one questioning the source of this though? A poster on the forums with an appropriate name.. but has it actually been confirmed by anyone we knows as official?
I can't really confirm why, but I was going to mention that "2K Elizabeth" sounds vaguely familiar to me. I'm willing to be that it's official.
also, this news is bodacious, duude!
In the UK we have the T for Teen kind of rating but also hard official ratings such as 18 or 15 when it has been rated by the BBFC or something. This actually has legal ramifications here, unlike T for Teen which is considered a guideline and nothing more, afaik.
It better be great or it's all your asses!
Unless it's really system friendly, it's likely to be at least a year after thaty I can afford a computer capable of running it.
See, you're in England. Here in America clubbing small children is a favourite pastime second only to seal clubbing.
WTF
There's no way I can afford a 360 by June.
Especially when I want a Wii first.
I'ma kill her for DNA.
I upgraded my computer about a year ago.To a 360. Keeping up with the Joneses got to be a hassle.
I'm on the fence about this one: It looks phenomenal, I find the story to be incredibly engaging, I love the setting...
It's the underwater ceiling walking hookers with meathooks for hands that scare the fuck out of me that's keeping me away.
Aww, who am I kidding? It's why I'm SO totally there.
I don't want to derail, but I'm kinda in the same boat. I still miss the precision aiming that you get with a mouse and whenever some sort of aiming aid takes over for me and centers the crosshairs on a target for me I shudder. But what's a gamer to do? we go where the games go. If games like Gears of War and (hopefully) Bioshock are really that awesome, I guess we just learn to get used to it.
I'm still worried this game won't live up to the hype. It worries me a bit that this game is referred to as an FPS and the RPG elements seem to be fairly light.
but I'm still hopeful, because the story looks awesome.
