So, are there any more opinions on The Void? It seems like an interesting game (and a search of this thread only turned up people who bought it, but haven't played it, sans one exception).

Do you like games-as-art? Are you ok when a game is hard to the point of being unfair? And being left in the dark about most of the game's concepts until very late in the game, always wondering whether you're doing things right or wrong?

If so, then yes, buy it immediately.

I never played The Path, so the best I can say from my perspective is that The Path didn't even really seem like a game, and this does.

    Let's see...

I don't regret it so far. It's... interesting.

Gameplay-wise it's sort of like a puzzle game, in that color management is tricky: You need it to live (as HP), but while it works as your HP you can't use it for anything else, so you must process it. But processed color can't be used for HP.

That, combined with the fucking amazing places and characters they created, makes for an interesting game.

This, however, comes from someone who enjoyed Killer 7, so you're warned. :P

    And der be wimenz, yo!

I mean, there's this whole NSFW, or little kids around, thing.

blows my mind that Mass Effect is $5. Mass Effect is easily 24 hours of entertainment. A cinema ticket is probably $15 for 3 hours entertainment? head explode.

I would get Mass Effect if I could transfer my save from the 360 version to the PC somehow.

But I'm probably just going to have to rent it again to finish it before I get ME2.

You can spend 24 hours doing nothing but the main storyline planets

    Easily

The sidequests mostly kinda suck but at the end of the day you can completely ignore them if you want to. There's plenty of game there besides.

Of today's sales, the only thing I'm interested in is DMC4.

The problem is that it is only 25% off, and would be the most expensive thing I buy this sale.

But on the other hand, I really, REALLY enjoyed DMC3 SE, and desperately want Bayonetta on the PC.

... But on the OTHER other hand (don't ask), I haven't beaten DMC3, and back when DMC4 was first released I heard some complaints that it was closer to 2, which supposedly sucked.

Not really, the story of it is covered entirely in 2's databanks. One is a great trip, but it is just a warm-up act for the feats of insanity you need to pull off in 2.

Plus, I dunno if the SCP works with GoG's FS2, but I do know that mods for FS1 were made for FS2. (I own a legal copy of FS2 for the record. From Hong Kong or something, but legal nonetheless.)

Oh, one other thing about Freespace, the original: It starts off before shield tech is implemented by the Humans, so you start the game (the easy levels) without.. just like TIE fighter.

I always feel like a badass when I pull off awesome stuff without shields. ... God I want a modern TIE fighter.

    Story?

It's interesting at least, how the whole Earth-Vasudan relations go, first Shivan encounter.

You'll also learn to respect shields. ;-)

I also remember that someone ported the FS1 campaign over to FS2, but can't quite remember if it's better enough to get it or just play the original.

    Source Code Project.

I don't know its "status" since GoG re-released FS2, so I'm not gonna say any more. But I will say that it was one of the greatest gifts ever given to space sim fans like myself.

I can't fathom how anyone could ever compare 4 to 2. 4 is like the first game in a few ways (especially the enemy design), but the core combat is distinctly 3. In fact, it's not far off from being as good as 3. If you've never played it, $23 is an excellent deal.

Of course, I picked it up despite having 80 hours on my save file in the 360 version, so I am probably not the correct voice of reason here.

Whoever was thinking of renting ME for 360 again to finish it, just buy it on Steam right now. Better to own it for $5 and start over and get to replay eventually than to rent for $3 and have to give it back in a week. Seriously, $2 is not enough of a barrier to keep you from owning this game.

DMC4 was pretty close to 3's greatness. The only flaws were the lack of Vergil and the fact that the second half of the game is the first half in reverse. Also some of the enemies were assholes.

    edit: wrong link, switched it

I played their odd Grandma walks through a graveyard game....

No idea about their "games" but they sound rational on their blog about the interactive medium in general.

Doesn't mean they are great artists or anything - I have no clue. What I tried didn't do much for me.
Yes, I remember this game now. I don't know who created the idea for this particular troll, but this involved some Youtube videos where people posted video of a young girl meeting another young girl her own age in the forest, them running off and playing, and then the video cuts to another scene. Second scene is the girl lying in the forest, then waking and standing up. There was nothing even remotely sexual about what happened before the scene changed, the girl was not bloody, no clothes were out of place, but the Youtube video author joked that the girl had just been raped.

The whole rape thing is as laughable as people who dismiss any game Akira Toriyama worked on (Dragon Quest, Blue Dragon, Chrono Trigger) as "EWW DRAGON BALL Z." It gets worse when people who HAVE played the game and tried to offer correction are shouted down by the trolls. Reality isn't as entertaining in that case I guess.

This part of the whole "fan dumb" phenomenon is explained well by tvtropes. Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch (with an example section for video games, among other things -- because complaining about video games you've never played also == LOL.)
Now FATALE I'll give you. Almost zero gameplay, just a slightly-interactive story to tell, and I think it gets an award for being the only Steam game that doesn't verify your age before showing you the store page yet has female frontal nudity in one of the screenshots. (screenshot #8) Either we're actually progressing as a society and getting over silly hangups other parts of the world don't have . . . or the contrast was so low nobody could see anything anyway.

So I purchased Jade Empire recently thanks to Steam sale and I have to ask: am I just fat and slow or is it ridiculously easy to die in this game?

I could imagine the controls being awkward on the pc. Since they were kinda awkward on the console.
