Homeless?!

My mom just got laid off from her job, she lives in an apartment by herself in Minnesota. She has no savings or anything so I am giving her so money to get by for a month or two. If it wasn't for she would not have been able to pay her rent and would have had nowhere to live. She has been applying for jobs but there is really nothing there and she has no college or anything really.

What the hell can she do? I can't afford to keep paying her rent, I am in Korea right now actually.

Can she apply for unemployment? Has she talked to her landlord and utility companies?

Get unemployment benefits? Maybe talk to more local family members who might be able to put her up while she looks for a new job?

If she has a disability you might be able to claim her as a dependent and get BAH.

If not you could see if you qualify for an AER loan.

You should definitely notify your chain of command though.

Oh, didn't know you were military. Yeah. Do what Taranis said. You have some options with that. I believe my mom did something similar for my grandmother.

She needs to start applying for assistance the next day. The utilities should have programs to keep her from going under on one end.

If she's old enough she may be able to qualify for local government housing, which would at least give her a place to live until she can get back on her feet.
