This motherfucker right here. Used a fucking tenor sax reed on his alto sax mouthpieces and could play fucking triple Cs and shit and never changed his tone throughout the entire register of the horn and had a fucking chainsaw growl and vibrato combo.

2:44 for holy fucking shit
you can totally tell that he's using the wrong reed because his staccato jumps from note to note are really sloppy
This isn't one of my favourite songs by them, but Ohbijou is pretty great. Like The Luyas but easier to listen to, and like Stars but more interesting. Good stuff!
not sure if walter meego is obscure, this track was used in an episode of ugly betty or something, but i heard it in a beer commercial first and couldn't get it out of my head.
Bear in mind that I think Silent Circus and Alaska are the best albums
It's a mixbag. I like it quite a bit. Tied with Alaska for second favorite.
Track by track:
Mirrors sets up a nice atmosphere.Obfuscation has some pretty weak writing for the first 4 or 5 minutes until it cools down into a nice little guitar solo over some bass and light drums and the track gets pretty good from there on. Disease, Injury, Madness pretty much just hits you in the face for the first two minutes and drops back into a Backwards Marathon slow section. My favorite track I think. Fossil Genera is probably their most unusual song and is easily second best on the album. Desert of Song is an western sounding acoustic song (most of it) with Paul doing some vocals (he has a very nice voice). Swim to the Moon is about 3 minutes of good stuff sprinkled through 17 minutes of some pretty repetitive writing and a solo section that reminds me of Dream Theater. Tommy even does a keyboard solo. Weakest and longest track.
tl;dr
It's definitely worth listening to.
e: I take back what I said. It is just under Alaska in my books. Colors>Alaska>The Great Misdirect>(barely) The Silent Circus>self titled
Hey, people talking about the BtBaM/Cynic/Devin Townsend show
I'm going to be seeing them at the Fillmore in Charlotte, it's actually the last date of the tour. This is probably the best show line up I've ever seen, and after seeing Devin practicing By Your Command, I could not possibly be more excited.

Is that the February 6th show? I plan on going to that one. Seriously awesome lineup.
e: Also, Scale the Summit will be there as well which is pretty sweet. Love me some instrumental progressive rock.
Yep, that's the 6th. I guess I'll see you there, even though I don't know what you look like and will be too busy paying attention to the show.
I've never been too into Scale the Summit. I don't know, technically, they're sound, but they're almost too technical, like their isn't enough soul or emotion in their music. Opinions and all, though.
Kind of like a sludgier Will Haven, which makes sense considering it's mostly made up of ex-Will Haven dudes.
I saw Will Haven live...shit, ten years ago? A long fucking time ago. They were crazy as hell. Came out on stage and played their setlist straight through without a word. They were opening for somebody...can't remember who now.
Saw Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (hooray, a decent indie band from my tiny, shitty hometown!) live a couple of weeks ago and they're still pretty good. It will be interesting to see what they do with Chris Walla.

not my kind of thing.

I don't know who the fuck Masquerade is but Between the Buried and Me is amazing. You crazy.
Anny, I will fucking smack you.
No, but really, BtBaM is really, really talented. Even if you don't enjoy the music, stay for the musicianship.

I haven't listened to Cynic, but I have never been more impressed by a live act than BtBaM. They sound so fucking clean that it is absurd.
