Just not feeling alot of hype for the game. Might change once it's closer to release.
I don't think Gran Turismo's ever had a ton of hype around here but it still has a ridiculously large following. Prologue's still one of the best selling racing games this generation (outselling both Forza's).
Oh also:
Dawn of Discovery (aka Anno 1404) : Venice expansion.
It has multiplayer. MULTIPLAYER! Setting up elaborate trade routes with my friend's colonies! He can mine coal and smelt iron while I make cider and process lumber! *girly scream*
So far I've already pre-ordered Mass Effect 2, and the only other "to-get" games on my list are Crackdown 2 and Perfect Dark on XBLA. The rest will be on a "wait-and-see" basis, especially Final Fantasy XIII after all the negative press about too linearity. My New Year's prediction: Gamefly will probably be my best friend.
I really liked the way the Bayonetta demo played and looked -- kind of like an old school game wrenched into the future. Like God of War (game play wise) turned up to eleven.
I also hope we get some info on the Warhammer 40K MMO. I want my spess marheens and orkies
Oh and the "Space Marine" game from Relic as well. That one looked awesome.
Y'know if I didn't already know that Space Marine was 40k (and if I didn't know what 40k even was) I would say that that is the most generic title of all time. Hell, I'd almost expect a game entitled "Space Marine" to be a parody of all those games that have generic "space marines" as the protagonist. :P
Axen on
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
I don't even know what I'm going to do because I didn't have much time in 2009 for games, which means I'm looking at Dragon Age (which is like a million hours itself), Borderlands, King's Bounty, and maybe some other stuff that I want to play. And then I look at the coming year.
And I don't even own any fucking consoles! AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO PLAY GAMES PERIOD. What the hell am I going to do?
I've grouped the games I want to play in the way that makes the most sense: by the number that comes after their name. A colon counts as a number, as does a "vs." 2033 does not count as a number.
Alpha Protocol
Brink
Dark Void
Metro 2033
Naumachia
Rage
RUSE
Fallout: New Vegas
Napoleon: Total War
Splinter Cell: Conviction
STALKER: Call of Pripyat
Aliens vs. Predator
Assassin's Creed 2
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Bioshock 2
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2
Just Cause 2
Mafia 2
Mass Effect 2
Mirror's Edge 2
Natural Selection 2
Starcraft 2
Deus Ex 3
Diablo 3
Max Payne 3
So basically even if Diablo, Starcraft, Dead Rising, Mirror's Edge, Fallout, Deus Ex, Max Payne, Metro 2033, and Naumachia don't come out, I'm screwed. Assuming I leave all the single player stuff alone and buy it 4 years from now when it's $5 on Steam during a weekend sale, that still leaves Brink, RUSE, Napoleon, AvP, Natural Selection, Battlefield, and maybe Bioshock. Gaaaah.

Oh my god...I completely forgot about Deus Ex 3...
It warms my heart that so many people are pumped for Crackdown 2.
I don't know if I even want to map out my list. Too many good titles.
Alpha Protocol and Splinter Cell because I need to get my spy on. Red Dead looks so solid I don't even know what to do wtih myself. Mass Effect 2 because who knows what aliens you'll get to shoot/sleep with! Sooo many games coming.
I won't even front, I'll probably be 0 day on Star Wars: TOR even though I swore off MMOs.
I'm surprised APB hasn't made (edit) it on MORE short lists. Then again, they really haven't been getting on the marketing of that game. I think it's still has a release of like Q1 2010. These guys really need to get on the whole communication thing.
edit: Except Darlan. He's got foresight.
edit 2: and Renzo. God damn it.

January alone is rough for me with Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, Dark Void (a maybe right now), and Sky Crawlers. Then February has Bioshock 2 and Splinter Cell, and FF13 in March... plus Sin and Punishment 2 sometime, God of War 3...
I'm most looking forward to what stuff comes to us via Xbox Live Arcade Indie Games. Some of that stuff is getting really damned good. Also, whatever Gold membership content Microsoft point our way, like that Avatar kart racer, and the inevitable Natal stuff. Stuff, stuff and stuff, nothing specific.
Currently struggling to get through the 2009 games at the mo, so I'm trying not to think about 2010 yet.
The best year in all gaming was 1998. The heavy of hitters brought out their shiniest products and plenty of new talent was discovered, too.
Ocarina of Time
Metal Gear Solid
Alpha Centauri
StarCraft
Diablo 2
Resident Evil 2
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Grim Fandango
Half-Life
Baldur's Gate Thief: The Dark Project
Unforgettable, iconic games all released during the same year - that can't be topped.
Other than forgetting about that, I agree.
edit: Jesus christ it's been that long since those games came out? I feel old.

What I like best about current-gen stuff? Pricing guidelines, of sorts.
Back in the day, you'd pay $40-$50 for a PS1 game, same for a PC game, and Dreamcast games... but N64 games? $80, easy. Super Nintendo was the same, I remember shelling out $80 for FFIII, and several other top-notch games. I'm glad they aren't going to try to get $80 out of me for Bioshock 2 (well they're getting $100 out of me for the CE, but I actually GET something out of that price difference).

2004 was pretty damned close.
Nintendo DS was launched, not to mention the best Nintendo E3 press conference ever was had. 2004 was an excellent year for Sequels, shooters, and MMOs.
Game releases included:
Metroid: Zero Mission
Ninja Gaiden
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Battlefield Vietnam
Unreal Tournament 2004
Far Cry
Final Fantasy XI
City of Heroes
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Doom 3
Pikmin 2
Fable
The Sims 2
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War
Katamari Damacy
Rome: Total War
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
EverQuest II
Halo 2
Jak 3
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Half-Life 2
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Super Mario 64 DS
World of Warcraft
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords

I remember shelling $75 for Chrono Trigger.
But man, was it worth it.
So in the possible event that I'll have to actually buy Mass Effect 2, is it possible that Steam will do the four-pack sale like with L4D2 and Borderlands? If it's around the $35 range, I'll gladly take part in it.
As for Bayonetta, one GAF importer said it took around 6-8 hours to finish. I know it's an action game, but that still feels like a waste for $60.
Posts
- Mass Effect 2
- Natural Selection 2
- AVP
- Dead Space 2
- Halo: Reach
Once financially able:
- Darksiders
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- The Force Unleashed 2
Interested but not sold on:
- Bioshock 2
- Dark Void
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Alpha Protocol
If I decide I'd rather not eat this year:
- Star Wars: The Old Republic
Not entirely sure. Very probably.
Well that pretty much clinches a lack of Gears of War next year.
I don't think Gran Turismo's ever had a ton of hype around here but it still has a ridiculously large following. Prologue's still one of the best selling racing games this generation (outselling both Forza's).
Gives them more time to make a decent multiplayer then.
Eh, if they for some reason decide to do both Q4 this year, it's not like people would be playing gears MP instead of reach anyway.
Which is annoying.
Not day 1 buy, but most likely future purchase :
Then there is the "who knows when that is even out" category;
Dawn of Discovery (aka Anno 1404) : Venice expansion.

And God of War 3 looks pretty great.
Oh and the "Space Marine" game from Relic as well. That one looked awesome.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Dead Space 2 (that's in 2010 right?)
But this thread seems to be ignoring one thing: Elemental: War of Magic
Come on people, it's a 4x game in the spirit of MoM, from the people who made GalCiv.
Y'know if I didn't already know that Space Marine was 40k (and if I didn't know what 40k even was) I would say that that is the most generic title of all time. I hope it's as terrible and endearing as the first one. The absolutely horrid voice acting alone made it for me.

It's got monthly fees, right? Deal killer for me.
I would love for other Devs to steal APB's character creator. That shit be hawt yo.

They overcharged $30 for a hunk of plastic... nice
Oh well, the past is the past, and most everything I actually PAID that price for was worthwhile... except for Quest 64.
