Man it's been only like 5 minutes and I already forgot exactly what I voted for
1. King's Bounty Armored princess- which I've only played a little bit of, but to make up for completely missing the one last year which became my retrospective game of 2008. I bet no one else even has it in their top 10
2. Dragon Age
3. Borderlands
4. Assassin's Creed 2
5. Uncharted 2
6. Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes
7. Another DS game which I can't remember which had a colon and was about the same lengths as 6
8. Batman Arkham Asylum
9. Wheelman, really it was quite an entertaining game even with all it's flaws
10. Empire: TW
And then I had in random orders
Zelda, PvZ, Style Savvy, ToMI, both Rock band games, layton, rhythm heaven, brutal legend and probably a dozen more since it came out to almost 30 games.
I think King's Bounty was my number 5 or somesuch.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2
2. Forza Motorsport 3
3. Resident Evil 5
4. Assassin's Creed II
5. Halo ODST
6. Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time
7. Guitar Hero: Metallica
8. DJ Hero
9. inFamous
10. Uncharted 2
11. The Sims 3
12. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Those are mostly the only games I've played this year. There have been others, sure, but these are the ones I bought and played the hell out of for the most part.

If you had told me up to like a week before release that Dragon Age would be 2nd on my GOTY list I would have laughed and laughed. It looked so bad, and I've never got into a Bioware game before, but it really hooked me enough that I feel it really deserves to be my number 2. There was never any doubt, though, that Uncharted 2 would take number 1 for me.

I think what really stood out to me this year was that there were a lot of awesome games but nothing that really blew me away. fffffffffff... I forgot DA: Origins, that is definitely one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. Oh well, I'm sure it'll get lots of votes. This year felt pretty slow to me.

I just noticed that IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is missing from the list as well - which is shame, really, because it's actually a good game.
I realize that Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for PSP was not nominated, and I blame myself for that.
My top 18:
1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum (360,PC,PS3)
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360,PC,PS3)
4. Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City (360)
5. Assassin's Creed II (360,PS3)
6. Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP)
7. Demon's Souls (PS3)
8. Borderlands (360,PC,PS3)
9. Prototype (360,PC,PS3)
10. Resident Evil 5 (360,PC,PS3)
11. Halo 3: ODST (360)
12. Shadow Complex (360*)
13. Flower (PS3*)
14. Red Faction: Guerrilla (360,PC,PS3)
15. Retro Game Challenge (DS)
16. Killzone 2 (PS3)
17. Pixeljunk Shooter (PS3*)
18. Canabalt (iPhone)
I played way more than 20 games this year, but not all of them made it on my list. Even though I played them, I didn't put Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers, MadWorld, Ghostbusters, Bionic Commando, or Brutal Legend in my list because I either haven't finished them and don't think they'll wow me (FF, MadWorld), or I didn't think they were good. But some games on my list (Dissidia, Pixeljunk, Red Faction) are unfinished and yet have made their mark.
That said, it was tough to put together a top 5, and 10-18 was a total crapshoot; they're all awesome.
Here's how I came out. I'm actually very surprised - I decided to vote not based on what was actually the best technical game all year, but my enjoyment. I checked off everything Ive played this year (21 titles apparently), and then looked at each and ranked them with how much time i spent with it, and how many times it drew me back in after completing it. Certain things (like Halo Wars) ended up falling simply because even though I loved it, I havent popped it in since I beat it. My list is based off of what has held my attention and made me go back.
Thanks! You voted for:
Splosion Man (360*)
Halo 3: ODST (360)
Resident Evil 5 (360,PC,PS3)
Shadow Complex (360*)

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City (360)
Punch-Out!! (Wii)
NHL 10 (360,PS3)
Left 4 Dead 2 ((360,PC)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (360,DS,PC,PS2,PS3,PSP,Wii)
Ghostbusters: The Video Game (360,DS,PC,PS2,PS3,PSP,Wii)
Halo Wars (360)

I played more than that this year, but some of them just haven't been played enough yet to make the list or I just flat out didn't like them. The last two make into the list purely for being pleasant surprises that were massively superior than they had any right to be.
At the start of the year I would've put money on Ultimate Alliance 2 being my game of the year, shame it was a massive disappointment.
Yeah, that's just poor everything right there. I'm sure they are not immune to MW2 syndrome, as many people aren't ("here's a photo of a person touching someone who bought MW2!) but not even giving UC2 best PS3 title? Or best graphics?
Then again, these are the same people who said that they didn't give UC2 a higher rating (mind you it got a 9.4, quite good) because it didn't have any gimmicks or try anything new.
What's far more obnoxious is them giving MW2 GOTY on PS3, 360, and PC all at once.
If they had an award for best multiplatform title, then they could have avoided this embarrassing gushing.
I'm surprised they didn't give Modern Warfare: Reflex GOTY for Wii.
1. Infamous (PS3)
2. Little King's Story (Wii)
3. MadWorld (Wii)
4. Brütal Legend (360,PS3)
5. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
6. Batman: Arkham Asylum (360,PC,PS3)
7. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
Felt like 'A Crack in Time' was a weaker game than the first. inFamous was the only game I felt strongly about this year. For a new IP is got so many things right. Same with LKS.
Only five minutes after the vote and I already want to change the order around. Forgot AC2, which got to finish sometime.

They at least did give it best graphics, actually.
I've always watched GT's stuff, because it's much cooler than just reading reviews, but I don't think I've ever really agreed with a lot of their actual opinions.
Here's how I came out. I'm actually very surprised - I decided to vote not based on what was actually the best technical game all year, but my enjoyment.
Here's my list: Assassin's Creed II may very well have taken the number 1 spot, but I want to get it on PC, so I really can't just assume its quality without playing it. I also only just got SF4 on the Steam sale yesterday, but I'm visiting home on a DSL connection and it would take forever to download, so I'll just have to wait.
I'm surprised Valve's game isn't higher, but I do feel that L4D2 is their first huge disappointment. (Which is still good enough for 7th place, but still, it's Valve: here's hoping HL2:III makes up for it.)
Also surprising: not one Wii game that I cared for this year! Next year will bring SMG2 and a new Metroid, but in a year with Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Star Craft 2, Mass Effect 2, and the Old Republic, I'm not even sure I'll get around to those next year. Shame.
I also felt that they completely broke the multiplayer in Modern Warfare and thought about leaving it off the list entirely, I played hours upon hours of the first game and have yet to have any fun in the second's multiplayer, but I have to admit the campaign has some interesting and fun qualities, dumb plot and all.

I'm expecting Batman to clean up this year. That game was phenomenal.
I'll probably hold off voting for a couple days until I finish off Assassin's Creed 2, dig a little further into Riddick, and maybe boot up The Void or Osmos for a bit.
I haven't played batman yet but i'm glad it did so well, it kinda makes up for all the terrible batman licence games we had in the past. I think this new one and the nes one were the only good ones ever.
Posts
So, uh, I guess my list is
1 - Dragon Age: Origins (PC)
2 - Left 4 Dead II (PC)
3 - Dawn of War II (PC)
4 - ...
I should probably get to trying out that Batman game and Modern Warfare now
Why haven't you played Batman
Though all the praise for it makes me want to try it anyway
Don't worry, you're not the only one.
2. Uncharted 2
3. tekken 6
4. SF4
5. Dragon age
6. Brutal legend
Didn't play too many games.
L4D1
X3 Terran Conflict
Sins of a Solar Empire
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Oblivion
Mass Effect
Fallout 3
Company of Heroes
Dawn of War
The Witcher
Shit, did any of those come out in 2009?
I think King's Bounty was my number 5 or somesuch.
Anyhoo, I'm pulling so hard for Uncharted 2.
Anyway, Dragon Age takes my top spot, followed by Machinarium, the other 18 are a surprise.

Felt like 'A Crack in Time' was a weaker game than the first. inFamous was the only game I felt strongly about this year. For a new IP is got so many things right. Same with LKS.
Only five minutes after the vote and I already want to change the order around. Forgot AC2, which got to finish sometime.
FF14: ARR
They at least did give it best graphics, actually.
I've always watched GT's stuff, because it's much cooler than just reading reviews, but I don't think I've ever really agreed with a lot of their actual opinions.
That's cool. Just wasn't sure if it was seen or not.

I'll probably hold off voting for a couple days until I finish off Assassin's Creed 2, dig a little further into Riddick, and maybe boot up The Void or Osmos for a bit.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
