Horseshoe, I think you have another terrible idea or something.
Yes. That wasn't really a question, but yes.
Normally, I get really excited about my really bad ideas. But this time I probably I won't be super duper serious with this post because... well it's Exalted. I can't keep a straight face with this game for very long. You may want to read this post with that in mind. Oh, and what I'm doing is considering running a game of Exalted without any goddamn Exalts in it. And that is the story of the misleading title of UnExalted.
Exalted without Exalts is dumb.
Maybe it's Exalted with Exalts that's dumb. And your face. Huh? Maybe that.
Okay so if I wanted to play your dumb game I would Need Things.
An astute observation. It also assumes that I would actually be running the game which hasn't happened just yet.
In that event, you'd need internet access, willingness to post on the forum regularly and do some IRC now and then on an irregular basis. My basis, it is irregular.
Oh, and the Exalted 2nd Edition Rulebook and the Scroll of Heroes.
Also the willingness to put some work into your character sheet.
I would want to also use this other stupid Exalted book that's stupid.
No.
Please?
No.
Okay. I assume there is another point to this thread.
Yes there is. Now is the part where I rattle on about it for a while about why I clicked the new thread button. Ready?
No.
Too bad.
Alright, so a few of you know my stance on the Exalted Ruleset.
"These Rules, they are pretty bad." - Horseshoe
"See, I hate this game again. Fuck you, game." - Horseshoe
"FUCK YOU GAME" - Horseshoe
"Exalted: it's so epic you can't actually play it." - Horseshoe
Yep. I said them things. But in spite of the rules I do very much enjoy Exalted, a game that is simultaneously among those games that are Very Good and those that are Very Bad.
But I'm kind of tired of Solars. Lunars are okay but meh. I don't have
any idea what's up with Sidereals. Dragon-Bloods are boring. Infernals is butts. Abyssals is mega-butts. Alchemicals is
ultra-mega-butts. And so on.
The thing with creation is that its fabric is weaved from the lives of mortals. Not the oh so special chosen super good/evil/over9000/emo/yiffyiff/angryface/beepboop/smartypants/lookatmyforehead or whatever the fuck the deal is with thems Exalts. Nah.
Mortals. Someone gotta farm. Someone gotta cut trees. Someone gotta herd goats. Someone gotta protect the tribe. Someone gotta lead his people, speak wisdom to them, and get through the hard times that are either ignored by or caused by a bunch of megasuperpowered assholes crapping one million knifelasers per second at one another.
And also playing mortals instead of exalts makes a bit simpler the combats. This is something I can get behind.
Oh yeah... and what the hell is so great about that frikkin island or whatever that craps is in the middle? It's all politics and bullshit and a bunch of self-important butts probably. I
so bet you it is. If I want fantasy politics and nonsensical butts that make me wish i was killing something, i'll just watch fox news or listen to npr or read a blog. Screw that noise. I would much rather see what happens in the way out of the way parts of Creation, where the Exalts and Super-Empress Scarlet Whatshername are pretty much out of the picture completely.
Still, you have to be strong enough to kill a yeti and not die of dysentery after you eat it raw.
So basically we are talking something like: Heroic Mortals, God/Ghost/etc-Bloods and those other peoples from Scroll of Heroes who are Important Folks in their various tribes that live in isolation at the extremes of Creation's cardinal directions, where maps are meaningless and life itself is won through sweat, blood, and grit.
What about Elemental Poles and The Wyld and shit?
Don't be such a nerd. Creation is ridiculously massive. There could be goddamned anything out there. Like, oh... I don't know... Dinosaur Kings. Yeah. The way I see it, if you've got Dinosaur Kings that means almost anything else is fair game.
Put down the book for a while and get primitive.
You are dumb.
Your face is dumb.
So basically looking for interest, questions about what the hell am I thinking, discussion, heckling or whatever. This is the sort of game I'd want to play, but since nobody else would run it I guess I will and be super jealous of you who are playing. Or something. Maybe ask me how good I smell today, or what wine might pair well with spagetti-o's.
Also developing how shit works is fine too. For example some rules in Scroll of Heroes may be butts and maybe you should notify me if you have a better mind for Exalted than I do, which is... quite likely. And another example would be like... which extreme edge of creation we may be talking about here because I've more than one idea on that myself.
If this thread starts going somewhere I'll turn it into a recruiting thing and start a game at some point.
So post or something. You guys.

Also I am so interested
having a climate sensitivity to extreme cold if the game was in the hot humid ass jungles of the east
that simply would not fly
I'll give Scroll of Heroes a read; I've always wondered if someone could make a game that's focused on the lesser (in terms of raw power, not character) beings of the Exalted world.
And on a related note, this is an idea I can get behind. Exalted without all those charms sounds like it'd be lethal as all fuck for all involved.
Just note that mortals die REALLY FUCKING EASILY.
Anyway, if you want to do just scroll of heroes+core, I'd strongly suggest just limiting it to heroic mortals because honestly the xblooded are pretty confusing and a bit stupid.
SoogaGames Blog
bleed to death the first time you get hurt basically
:^:
According to local sources, I smell fine; like laundry done some time ago but not particularly dirty, still retaining the aroma of detergent.
Yeah, well... I wouldn't expect every party member to survive. Life is tough for mortals.
The game will last until the story has been told.
One of the possible endings of any story is the death of all the protagonists.
Very isolated island chains in a vast vast ocean, sorta like the pacific rim. Land is very scarce and tirbal warfare is required in order for a tribe to grow.
Also face-tattoed motherfuckers. And Rugby.

Yeah, I was considering that if x-Bloods were to be used I would limit the types. Demon-Bloods are right out from the start. I don't like that business, and I don't like the text in the Scroll of Heroes. Half-Castes are out. It implies the presence of Exalts.
Still thinking about whether or not I like the 'created races'.
I like the flavor of God-Bloods, though, and would have to consider what to do for the mortals that would level things out a bit.
Character Archetypes would be things like shamans, cheiftains, witches, hunters, etc.
I may actually cook up a couple of examples of characters I would like to see in this game, and open for discussion how such a character might be built.
I like the shaman best though
Good work, Scroll of Heroes.
Reminds me of all the half-night elfs in WoW.
Not relevant to the game, just perusing the book.
You said something about taking Cult to make up for the fact that eating people was a lame way to regain essence, right, Horse?
That's what I was thinking.
Performing religious services for your people as a Shaman seems like a sensible enough way to recover essence, and would relate to the background.
Like for instance channeling a spirit to talk to someone. It's still inconvenient but at least it's not drinking human blood.
Speaking of Shamans that channel spirits... this is from Mongolia. A Buryat "Black Shaman" I believe.
I really dig the veil
A mongolian shaman's "whip" isn't a whip in the way that we might think of one.
But maybe it would be cooler if it was.
weapons are some serious shit here, and those who know how to use them well can become chieftains
wooden oar shaped clubs of bone and hardwood with sharpened edges
shark tooth knives
sharpened stones in slings
the fire in your blood boils like that of your deadbeat elemental father
screaming your lungs out, your tattooed visage evoking fear in your enemies
all that kinda shit
get primal
just don't get cut
my man jaguar paw here got stabbed with a spear, then chased through the jungle and he still pulled off this sweet move:
war club time
yeah.
this is the kind of thing I would want to have happenin' in UnExalted.
Mortal. Dirty. Awesome.
probably seafolk too.
like i said:
there's no map.
is it really that far out? who knows?
Also, this sounds fantastic.
The problem I'm facing now is that I have no clue what Un/Exalted is, and have a feeling that I am missing something very painful.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exalted <-- Exalted is a game about characters who punch gods in the head and explode them.
2. Humans are allll across the West. Sure, some of them are horribly mutated but they're still humans.
3. Gods will bone anything.
4. Apocalypto is like my favorite movie ever.
Also, You have my attention.
Edit:
Oh sweet jebus, it looks like an anime chat room gone horribly wrong!
It's bejeweled guys. That's the game they are playing. It all makes sense now.
Edit - Because I'm reading this while posting and not waiting till I'm done reading it like one would usually do...
No standard tolkienesque inspirations? I'm impressed.
It is beyond our comprehension!
Exalted makes a strong effort to be high fantasy in a very not traditional RPG fantasy manner and works out pretty well at it.
As in, draws inspiration from the epics of yore.
I also like the elemental aspect of it, but that's just me.
I wonder what you'd get if you had a Demon-God-Ghost-Blooded Half-Caste Heroic Mortal Infernal?
a swift kick in the ass
from me
Scroll of Heroes pretty explicitly breaks down which part of the half-breed will take over in a nice little sidebar in that chapter, so you can only be ONE type of x-blood. Any x-blooded is already a Heroic Mortal, and any Exalt by definition was a heroic mortal, but the Exaltation also overrides any benefits they had from Inheritance because it rewrites their Essence.
So your character would be an Infernal.
