No I unplugged it and put it out pretty quick. Though the SATA power cable is pretty fried. I am up and running on my normal harddrive fine so I have my fingers crossed its okay.
I guess it's a blessing and a curse that I don't know what is on this drive.
I've had an ATX power connector short out or something and melt the plastic of the connector so it was fused to the motherboard. Stuff still worked after that, but it was a bit unstable.
Yeah it caught fire right at the SATA power connection (which makes sense) which melted the cable and the connection on the drive. The harddrive wasn't spinning up using my external sata recovery thing so I thought maybe putting it into the computer would be a good idea. It wasn't. In any case I don't know what was on it. I may send it away to have the data recovered depending on the cost, but I am not super concerned. Its not like anything I have ever done in my life is important...I am just worried there might be pictures on it from when I was growing up, or of my father.
An electrical fire in your computer is a bad, bad thing. Be on the lookout for any weird new behavioral problems. Something else (everything else) may have been affected by the short.
I think the computer is fine. It was definitely something with the harddrive and not the computer causing the problem, and the cable that it was connected with was pretty isolated.
Everything on my tv suddenly has a green tint to it. >_<
Our old one started going magenta after a power sink a couple years back. It started out just flicking magenta, then back to normal after a few seconds, but towards the end it would just stay pink. Our family xmas purchase this year was a nice new HDTV.

Nice, well not the old one being magenta, but the new one being HD and normal.
OOOH, THAT freeze, I thought maybe you were talking about a way to fix my TV.
What, Japan is a pretty rad place! And weird. And awesome!
And weird.
Remember that time there was a ninja? And we had to eat the food of his people and you had to communicate with the head lady ninja and then I had this sword in this coconut and it was smoking all over the place? That was so good.

And there was the Russian with the eyes of a hawk, miserly but fair
And then we celebrated under the gaze of hundreds of James Joyces (Joyci?)

I could probably buy some clothes and boots. But I'm actively dieting. I don't want whatever clothes I buy to be all baggy and scruffy looking.
Were any of your other components damaged?
Also, Google apparently uncensored their China search results. That is pretty amazing.

Yes, I personally find it delightful. My opinion of Google is skyrocketing.
E: Cake there are places you can take that HD to that can read it even if it's been damaged.
