Dragoran is running a forbidden knowledge Ritual. He's got a massive prestige income, and the best praetor in play right now. At this point, he might just have to worry about Kingmakers. Sander seems to have lost out slightly on his series of praetor duels, two losses and one win. Me and Roxtar are lining up for a duel ourselves.
Either everyone is going to find a way to drain Dragoran's resources and stop the ritual, or we're gonna be fighting for second place.
Yeah, if those duels had gone better I would've had a shot. As it is, with the best legion, the best praetor, and the most prestige, it'd be hard to topple him.
So... Why can't I put a relic on a legion? That legion has a Praetor, so I figured that might be it, so I raised my military whatever stat to 3, and still no luck.
What rules govern "How much shit you can stack on a dude," anyway?

Each Legion has a specific number of attachment slots in which combat cards, praetors, and artifacts can be placed. Artifacts. Relics go in strongholds and ritual slots.
You can look at how many attachment slots your legions and strongholds have in the Ministerium.
Relics can only be attached to places of power and add broad general bonuses to your avatar - things like +1 Prestige income, +'s to stats like Diabolism, Destruction, Prophesy, Tribute roll, and other bonuses specific to each relic. Artifacts can be attached to your legions and give them various combat bonuses and such. They take up an attachment slot, just like your praetor does.
Legion Attachments
Each Legion gains attachment slots based on its level attribute. Attachment slots may be used to place Combat Cards, Praetors, or Evil Artifacts -- each of which provides special bonuses to their corresponding Legion.
Legion Level 1-2: 1 attachment slot.
Legion Level 3-4: 2 attachment slots.
Legion Level 5-6: 3 attachment slots.
Legion Level 7+: 4 attachment slots.

also note: you can only have 1 praetor per legion maximum regardless of total slots.
So, I have the demo for this downloaded on my computer, though I haven't installed it yet. I haven't ever played a game like this before - I tried Armageddon Empires at one point, but that was on my old computer and it ran like molasses. How tough is the learning curve on a game like this?

I can deal with the legion pretty well. I just need a vendetta. If someone can strip the praetor away from him, We can insult him into oblivion.
Drool is going to start a Wave once we have what he considers the right number of players who have PM'd him.
Questions:
How do I send a praetor against the one in pandemonium?
What's the benefit beyond xp for my praetor?
What factors into the somewhat random starting combat values for each player's primary legion? I seem to have relatively shitty values most of the time.
How exactly do I get more orders besides the relics and pop's that grant them? Something to do with attributes, I gather, but which/when/how much/how many?
Is there any way to earn XP without combat? What happens if your main legion isn't tough enough to fight anything even with your slots filled?
There is no exp outside of combat save for a very rare event card that can only be used once. If your main legion isn't tough enough even with all your slots filled, you should be using alternative means to even the odds. Remember that multiple legions when placed side by side give a reinforcement bonus equal to half of their stats.
So if your legion was next to another Legion with a 4 in all stats, it would receive +2 to all stats when attacking something adjacent to the reinforcing Legion. Using Combat Deception to lower your targets stats is another option.
It's pretty intuitive how that works on defense, but what if I'm the one attacking? Do I need my attacking army to start adjacent to the helper ally, conduct combat on a target adjacent to it's helper, or both?

The first and second I've been wondering myself. I never knew about that until recently because I've never played a game where I had the good fortune to have a burly fucker of a Praetor, for duels.
The random roll to determine battle advantage is determined by level. Your level measured against theirs. The higher level legion is most likely to win battle advantage and gain a random non-zero bonus to one stat (1-3 points).
You get more Orders per turn from relics, Deceit 4, Prophecy 4, Destruction 4, and Wrath 5.
But the middle bit - I'm talking about legion generation at the beginning of the game, not the random factor present determined at the beginning of each combat. Any ideas there?
It used to be related to Infernal rank. Now it's not, it's just plain old random and it's the same random generation process for everyone regardless of rank. More fair that way, makes Infernal rank less incredibly important.
Yeah I haven't played a game since the new patch so this should be interesting. So far the game looks like this Fiaryn, Imperfect, kaorti, Evil Multifarious, fadingathedges, and myself.
Six should be plenty for a game without things getting out of control, but I'm not going to deal with trying to organize shit until tomorrow so if you want in speak soon.

I'm quite sure that you just need to conduct combat while adjacent to the helper legion. If you start the turn next to the legion, the game will do the math for you and show you the bonuses to your stats. Otherwise you'll need to do that yourself.
Sorry, y'all. Today is the 1-year anniversary with my girlfriend, so I haven't been able to get to the computer 'til now.
I figured I was mostly okay, since this thread moved at the rate of half-a-post-per-day, but then BAM HOLY SHIT TWENTY POSTS AND WE'RE STARTING WHERE THE FUCK IS IMPERFECT ANYWAY?
PM'd Drool with my wave email address. Let's get this shit rockin'.
The wave is up you all are added so grab your invitation file and lets get our hell on. I'm not sure why I was thinking a game had eight players, but I'm glad I figured it out before more people asked to join.
nrg. Game start turn is up, having trouble understanding your instructions a bit, and trouble figuring out this Google Wave thing a bit. Think I got it though.
Or when the heavens close up and there's no more SOOOULLLS.
Say, what's this nonsense about "Consume 35 souls" as a goal, anyway. Does that just mean "Spend 35 soul resources" or is there something a little more challenging there?

'Cause otherwise that's like 30 free Prestige.
Afraid it's not that easy. You literally have to squander 35 souls by going to Manage Objectives (which is also where you draw Secret Objectives) and committing the resources over time.
I've uploaded my .trn file. What settings are we using for this game? I might want to change my avatar, depending on settings.
Also, is there a good way of getting wave to notify you when someone posts a reply? Or should I just check a couple times a day.
As for settings I left everything at default except for the map I think I put it on Ascheron's Locks or whatever. I don't know if there's a way to have wave inform you. I just check it when I check my gmail, but you could look for an app or whatever. We're just waiting on Evil Multifarious to submit his game start and we'll be off.

Ok, I'll be perfectly happy with those settings and my current avatar.
There is an extension for chrome that puts a Wave notifier up on your top bar, if you happen to be one of the seven other people who use chrome.
It just so happens that I am one of those seven people. I've installed the extension. Thanks for letting me know.

But a higher level for my legion, that makes sense.
So who's starting this wave off anyway?

This may be well-known, but I remember someone complaining about this somewhere in the game's shortcomings.
It was in one of the early patches. It made the game so much nicer to play.
It'll be along the bottom of the screen in the bazaar, formatted like the price.
