I just read that Harmonix might not release much else in terms of Beatles albums, which would be a massive disappointment to me. I have been hoping for Help! since day one.
Yeah, I read that. It still sucks. I'm glad to be getting anything Beatles-related at all (the entire Abbey Road album is amazing) but I can't help wishing for more. It would be incredible if anytime someone came over, saw the box and asked, "Does it have (X obscure Beatles song)?" I could say, "Why yes, yes it does."
I finally got the copy of Beatles: Rock Band—today—that a friend of mine had been promising to send me since launch. And in a crazy coincidences, just two days ago I was able to borrow Lego RB from a friend who also didn't give a shit about me taking his export code! :P So I'm in a total RB reawakening.
I've put an hour or two into Lego RB, and my initial impression is that I tried my best not to like the game, both conceptually and how it screws with the whole a la carte aspect of the RB Store, but goddamned if it isn't charming as hell and fun to play. The rock power challenges are hilarious, and I don't know if I was more excited to see Lego Freddie Mercury or the Lego Lumberjack. I'm also a lot more impressed with the setlist than I initially thought; at $10 for the export, it was a given that I was going to grab the songs anyway, but I'm liking a lot of the songs that I didn't recognize.
And I've already played a ton of Beatles at friends' houses, but I'm jazzed to finally get to play it on my own. Day Tripper will be mine.
Maybe they'd sell more Beatles DLC if they released the songs people have wanted since the game was announced.
Anyway, so apparently HMX patched the PS3 version of RB2 to support RBN, which is cool. I guess. Still doesn't fix the whole "DLC is one big chunk, you gotta delete it all if you want to get rid of one song" thing.
“Sort by Stars” in Quickplay. If you hit the “Sort” button on the Song Select screen, you’ll come to a brand new sort that orders songs by the star ratings that you’ve achieved on each song. Each star rating gets a category, as well as an “Unplayed” category for songs that don’t have a star rating recorded. Finally, you can record your progress towards gold starring every song in your library!
Improved “Sort by Stars” fix: Players will not have to beat a previous high score to record a star rating for their songs.
Chord HOPO improvements: If you’ve played The Beatles: Rock Band, you’ll notice much more robust handling of chord hammer-ons and pull-offs. This patch implements those changes in Rock Band 2 to provide a more natural chord hammer-on/pull-off experience.
Velocity Sensitivity on Ion Drum Kits: Ion Drum kits now support velocity sensitivity in both drum fills and Drum Freestyle mode.
Rock Band Network Store Support: When the Rock Band Network goes live, select songs will be available for PlayStation 3 users through a new storefront available in game. Stay tuned for more information closer to the launch of RBN!
SingStar Wireless Microphone Support. Rock Band 2 now supports the SingStar Wireless Microphones currently available through Europe! Finally, you can now have a fully wireless Rock Band experience on your PlayStation 3!
It's not a fault of not wanting to release certain songs, it's the expensive process of getting mono tracks and "splitting" them via this new, experimental process that can only happen at Apple Studios which is expensive as hell.
Anyway, looks like the RB site is blocked at work now for some reason. I'll have to see the extent of the RBN capabilities on PSN.

Finally played the Blink DLC this week. Adam's Song is very unique on drums. Quite different than the standard fare and worth picking up. I had to play it twice since I didnt even 5 star it on my sightread!
Is it official that they are not releasing anymore Beatles DLC, or is this an extension of earlier speculation?
They'd always said that future Beatles DLC would be entirely contingent on how well the three albums sell.
I do recall, I'm just curious if there's actually been a decision if the DLC has sold well enough to justify more, or if this is it.
Nothing has been announced. Given the overall small amount of Beatles content anyway, monthly releases is probably too much to expect. They may have simply wanted to have plenty of stuff available for Christmas and after that, it'll trickle out from time to time.
Also, for those not happy about the shakey arrow not being addressed in the PS3 update:
So here's a little bit of background info regarding the shaky vocal arrow issue.
Since the vocal code for TB:RB is different from the vocal code in RB2, and the shaky vocal arrow does not appear in TB:RB, the vocal code from TB:RB was brought over to test in this update for RB2. Unfortunately, and much to the consternation of all involved here at HMX, this actually made the vocal arrow flutter even more prominent, to the point where the arrow would fluctuate even when the vocalist was not singing.
Coding, Engineering, QA and Audio each took a crack at getting this sorted out throughout patch production and we stressed the importance of this issue among our hardcore Expert level vocalists.
In the end our options were to patch the TB:RB vocal code and make the issue worse, delay the release of the patch for an indefinite period to continue working on the shaky vocal arrow, or leave the vocal code as it is in RB2. This was not a decision that was taken lightly.
The production team will continue to reevaluate this issue armed with the new vocal code developed for TB:RB. We will, of course, continue to collect information from the forums to pass along internally to help shape development of future games.
You still have to play all your songs again. However, it will record whatever star rating you score on any 'unplayed' song even if you don't beat your previous high score. After that, it keeps a record of the highest star rating.
I'm only bringing up what is apparently happening so PS3 folks here know the deal. It still doesn't work like most people wanted, but at least you don't have to beat your highest score to register the stars.
As I read it, it means that the tracking only tracks songs played after the update. So you would only need to replay a song and get a gold star on it rather than replay it and beat the old GS score.
I'm just hoping the "Select" songs for PS3 RBN isn't severely gimped. Because I want to throw my money at HMX, and I'd hate for them to deny me that right. :P

Sweet patch...plus we don't have to re-score songs...just replay them. That works for me since our "band" tends to replay a lot of songs and I've got a lot of unplayed ones still.
Also I'm kind of sad now. When I stream, Rock Band gets overamped to the point where the sound is clipping horribly.
Upon googling "realtek sound clipping", it turns out it's a problem with my specific mobo and the nForce chipset. And just like I noticed, it was there at first, was fixed at some point, and has come back in a recent update.
edit: and of course right I make this post, I check windows update and there's an update for my sound chipset..
Finally beat Visions on Expert Drums. Not sure it was entirely worth trying to do, but there some actual interesting parts once you get past the initial blastbeat hell.
Of course, the song still sucks no matter how you cut it.

Question for any Aussies who have imported Rock Band 2. If I import it, will it recognize DLC from the Australian store? If it does, I'm just importing this thing. Fuck waiting for a release.

They don't make good videos, but they make catchy indie pop (power-pop? britpop? I don't know). See also: "A Life Less Ordinary", "Petrol", or almost any of their singles pre-Meltdown.
Ceremony, by Joy Division or New Order (I'm linking Radiohead's version, just because)
Another band that has been getting the wrong DLC. They're not big on guitar heroics, but their songs often demand multiple vocalists, and the drumming here gets relatively awesome toward the end.

Amazon does as well.

Way too many! The math in my head was roughly "Dig is worth about 8 dollars, so getting the other 40-odd songs for 2 bucks is a steal!"

The Strokes - You Only Live Once
Ash - Girl From Mars
Ceremony, by Joy Division or New Order (I'm linking Radiohead's version, just because)
The Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang
The Kooks - See The Sun
EDITed to add:
The New Pornographers - The Bleeding Heart Show
Yeah, the ideal pack for me would be something like: "Cousins", "Mansard Roof" and "Horchata."
Agreed. I would also be real into "Kung Fu" by Ash, "Age of Consent" by New Order, or "Disorder" by Joy Division.
Make it happen, Harmonix!
