Question for any Aussies who have imported Rock Band 2. If I import it, will it recognize DLC from the Australian store? If it does, I'm just importing this thing. Fuck waiting for a release.
I'm pretty sure that the game will only recognise DLC from the region it was intended for. It might take more digging to find out if your region is compatible with any others.
Uh, pretty much a dumb question, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get out of the drum tutorial without turning off my 360. What am I supposed to be pushing here?
Without booting up the game, I'd guess the start button on the drumset will give you a menu to quit. Barring that, hitting the Guide button will let you quit to desktop. No turning it off required.
Available on Xbox 360 and Wii (Jan. 12) and PlayStation 3 system (Jan. 14):
• Alice In Chains – “Grind”
• Alice In Chains – “Heaven Beside You”
• Alice In Chains – “Last of My Kind”
• Alice In Chains – “We Die Young”
• Alice In Chains – “Your Decision”
Hey guys, I just picked up rock band 2.. Looking for people to play with. Go ahead and add me if you would like to play, Tenely is my live tag.
Also quick question... My guitar the strum bar feels extremely "loose" compared to the guitar hero 3 guitar I have, and also the start button doesn't seem to register every push.. is this normal or should I be getting a warranty replacement?
p.s. I only have like 6 DLC songs so far.. Snow, Fratellis pack, and a weezer pack.
There are LOADS of tutorials on how to fix your Stratocaster but if it is a new guitar, you are still within warranty to simply call up EA and get replacements. If the strum is really throwing you off, it'd be worth the wait.

Pretty much this. Vocals and drums are still fun in the meantime.

Holy shit you made the Fratelli's pack one of your first purchases?
You are awesome.
One of the most under-rated packs in the entire game.

However, the strum bar is pretty much 'looser' than the GH3 LP strumbar. It's the basis of the design. There are mod tricks that can help, but with the Start button apparently working intermittently (Did HMX start using the same tech they implemented with B:RB gear?), it's better to try and replace it under warranty. That's what it's there for.

The fratellis pack is like... 90% of the reason I got the game!!
And maybe im just used to the spring loaded "click" of the guitar hero 3 guitar. The start button is pissing me off though. I failed a song while trying to pause because it wouldn't pause and anytime it did it would "double click" and unpause lol.
So, apparently GH1 was supposed to come out on the 360. Posting it here because it's more Harmonix related.
Guitar Hero is a franchise that catapulted Red Octane and Harmonix directly into the money pit, but not everyone associated with the launch of the popular rhythm game came out of it crazy rich.
There was a reason the original Guitar Hero only launched on the Playstation 2, and that reason was Mad Catz.
"Guitar Hero was a game that we were actually involved with early on and pulled out because of a lawsuit with Konami," Mad Catz president and CEO Darren Richardson tells Kotaku. "We were doing the Xbox SKU and that's why there was only a Playstation 2 launch. That's why. We were in there and we pulled out as a result of (the lawsuit) and (Red Octane and Harmonix) went forward and it turned out to be a success, a huge success."
Richardson says they paid $300,000 to get out of their deal and cut themselves out of the Guitar Hero franchise.
"Everyone else made hundreds of millions and we paid money to not be a part of it," Richardson said. "It was brilliant. I come up with these strokes of genius from time to time. That was my best."
tl;dr there's probably the reason MadCatz is making the Rock Band peripherals.
Pretty sure of it. I don't think it would have been an OXbox title because they would have known MS was going to just outright kill it once the 360 launched.
The way the 360 launched, I don't think GH coming as a launch title (or at least close to it) would have helped. My theory (and experience) is that you don't want to buy a console with a game if that game is more expensive and has a peripheral that can only be used for that game specifically.
Well, a Harmonix employee did state that the only reason the early GHs supposed controllers was because they didn't know if the guitar controllers were going to take off, so the controller compatibility was their fallback.
He explicity stated the reason Rock Band didn't support controller-for-guitar was because there was enough guitar controllers floating around to make it possible.
And you can see it too. GH1's expert charting was a lot friendlier to controllers, GH2 was reasonable for controllers up until Expert, and GH3's controller compatbility was pretty much only there for an achievement..

He must have facepalmed so hard
To be honest, that was still the MadCatz era when everything they made was super cheap/shitty. They didn't do their big quality turnaround until later on, I think.
Yeah, they actually do now. I think it happened roughly after they bought out the Gameshark brand and all of Interact's patents. I think the third party market is pretty much them and Nyko now, and they have very little crossover in products, so they're not all in a race to the bottommost price anymore.
Second, Quid, the start button on the Beatles drum sets have a delay built in just like the guitars, so you'll need to hold it in.
If you're playing on a Rock Band 2 kit, uhhh...looks like you've got a broken start button.
Actually, while it's a RB2 kit, it's still got a slight delay which seems to have been the issue. Thanks for throwing that out there though as it never occurred to me.
So is there any particular guitar I should get for my second one? I'm assuming they all function about the same.
Edit: And is the store server down for everyone or just me?

Why haven't we gotten this yet? That is like party song quality.
Pretty boring for guitar, but my god, the bass and drum parts would be awesome.

That's pretty cool with me.

I looked it up and GH1 was released on November 8, '05 while the 360 launched a few weeks later.

But oh well, guess it saves me some cash. Plus there's still a couple songs in my backlog I haven't played yet
