If I had RB, I'd think that I would never buy DLC from a band I'd never heard of. Perhaps I'd listen to Youtube videos of their stuff and THAT would broaden my musical horizons. It's all by the proxy of RB, but not RB per se.
There's probably a sizable contingent of the RB consumer base that does this, but primarily, the only DLC that really sells anyway is known commodities. For just a couple of examples, Even Rats far out paces the other The Slip song, Children of December and obiliterates related band Surprise Me Mr. Davis' Sissyfuss (seriously, give it a whirl if you can). And the recent release of Los Angeles is probably doubling the sales of any other track in the X pack.
Most folks tend to have a narrowly defined sense of musical taste and write off practically everything else.
As for me, the stuff I've tended to 'discover' through GH/RB has been more the independent stuff. HMX bands or other small artists. Everything else is usually just something I hadn't gotten around to buying yet.
Well yeah, it better. And they've confirmed they can retroactively put harmonies into existing songs; that's happening with the Green Day DLC into the full game.

Where did they confirm this?
This is not quite right. The correct interpretation is that current DLC sometimes has vocal harmonies baked in (which will presumably be activated by RB3). For example the recent Green Day DLC has vocal harmonies in the files already (as confirmed by one of my friends who does midi extraction for the game).

I still find it pretty cool that everyone backed off on doing Beatles customs after HMX asked nicely.
Rock Band has also worked out an agreement with Experience Hendrix for the possible inclusion of a Hendrix avatar [...]
(Also, the rumour that won't die... Hendrix: Rock Band.)
I believe there are rumblings about the GD crew also exporting/importing. Obviously, it's all just conjecture and rumours. But technically, so are harmonies.
Also, here are the recent list of songs officially availabe in-game. I went back about a week to get any I missed earlier. Colour coded for price convenience.
One dollar Two dollars Three dollars
song title - band name
Under Water I Drown - Edge I'm Alive - Kid Beyond Taking Apart A Gigantic Machine - The Main Drag Upstream - Cory Wong (Guitar Only) When I get Home, You're So Dead - Mayday Parade Burn - Big Square Perfect World - Moving Picture Show Step Up (I'm On It) - Maylene and the Sons of Disaster Never Let You Go '09 - Third Eye Blind
Strangely, there isn't a chart available for the $3 song. But plenty of examples. It sounds like pretty much any other 'emo' band and not really any better than anything on-disc let alone for DLC. Maybe their shit doesn't stink?
So if the leaked cover art is true AND this listing from play.com is true then we know 43 (assuming brainstew/jaded are one track) of the 47 tracks. There would be 4 tracks remaining. Conveniently, Green Day has 4 major singles not on the list. I would wager a bet that is not a coincidence. The 4 singles not in the list:
Walking Contradiction
Hitchin' a Ride
Nice Guys Finish Last
Minority
and the complete rumored set list:
--Dookie--
Burnout
Having a Blast
Chump
Longview
Welcome to Paradise
Pulling Teeth

Coming Clean
Emenius Sleepus
In The end
F.O.D.
--American Idiot--
American Idiot
Jesus of Suburbia

Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Are We The Waiting
St Jimmy
Give Me Novacaine
She's a Rebel
Extraordinary Girl

Wake Me Up When September Ends
Homecoming

--21st Century Breakdown (minus the existing DLC)--
Song of the Century
21st Century Breakdown
Before the Lobotomy
Last Night on Earth

Viva LA Gloria (Little Girl)
Restless Heart Syndrome
Horseshoes and Handgrenades
The Static Age
Amerigan Eulogy
See The Light
--Other--
Brainstew/Jaded
Geek Stink Breath
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
Warning
Man, I really wish it was pick and choose. Because I really want a bunch of those Green Day songs, but I also really don't want them all, if that makes any sense. I like Green Day, but not that much.

I agree. If they could have somehow made a 15 pack for 20-25 bucks like the No Doubt pack that would have been amazing. I'll end up with only that much out of pocket after a buy-rip-flip anyways so I cant complain.
"Like a Fool" will be available as one of 20 free downloads for anyone who buys the game. Additionally, "All Of This" and another new song, "Tie You Down," will eventually be part of the Rock Band library as paid downloads.
The two songs eventually showed up in game on March 9 of this year. Of course, I believe that post (by Shaimus) was scrubbed and many probably forgot about it. But it took about a year and a half before that came true.

Just how long did they sit on those tracks?
Well, probably as long as those Snoop Dog Tracks.
Also, necro reply on GD.
Man, I love Dookie but that is a bit disappointing. I wished they mixed up a bit and added stuff out of Warning.
Just played through the whole album on expert drums and it's pretty meh. As much as I respect Mitch Mitchell, the translation of his playing into rock band isn't especially fun, as most songs are split between fairly traditional classic rock funk rhythms and him doing freeform drum solos. It's like having "Young Man's Blues" appended to the end of every song.
Enough the songs are fun to listen to that's not a total disappointment, but there's nothing that I would really recommend to other drummers.

Actually my sister had some of the songs on her iPod and they ended up in the shuffle the day before I looked at the charts~
I picked up Poker Face and am considering Monster. The other two don't really do it for me.

.. people have backed off Beatles customs, right?
I would expect so considering the first Green Day DLC was released two months before B:RB. Obviously they knew what was coming.
Harmonies in RB3 are the poorest kept secret. Along with 'real people' avatars. All they have to do is start charting hi-hat to complete the trinity.

Save it
Save this statement until we get Barenaked Ladies tracks that aren't from their holiday album
-Dookie
-American Idiot
-21st Century Breakdown (if you already have the 6 DLC tracks, the remainder will be on disc)
This jives with the leaked files from last year which contained the entirety of American Idiot.

In other news, I can't wait till E3! We'll probably see RB3 in action! I hope that they add something else besides Harmonies.
