I have an Ati HD4850, how much more of an upgrade would I get by going HD4890?

Depending on the game you're playing, there can be as much as a 50% performance gain with the newer card.

Here's a performance comparisson for you:

    Tom's Hardware

Well I'm thinking Dragon Age, some other newish releases. I don't need to crank everything, but I'd like to do 1440x900 with most things on and some aa, some MMOs..etc..

Just trying to see if it'd be worth the 170 or whatever to change cards, or If I'd be better off waiting awhile.

    It's for a new system btw, AMD Phenom™ II X4 810 quad-core processor; 8GB DDR3 ram, windows 7 home premium 64bit.

I personally would get the 4890 if you're on a budget of $200 or less, it's a pretty solid card in that range. If you're willing to spend more ($300), the 5850 is magical.
