Yeah, you can create the 'death music' a player hears when you kill them. I want to make one that really loud and annoying, so when I kill people they get pissed.
So you want to be one of those silly geese who trolls games instead of the internet? Such aspirations.
I wish I had a computer good enough to run this, because this sounds like one of those games I would daydream about years ago.
And the character creator, if it is still the same as it was when it was previewed last year, is a thing of dreams.
You have made me sadface. You hurt me, hurt me deep, deeper the deep.
But eh. Chances are, I won't even score a kill that often. I'm pretty sucky at online shooters.
All you people who just got into the beta. I hate you, :< I'm still beta-less.
E: I JUST FOUND OUT WHY! I never actually finished signing up for it. It turns out my current email was NOT taken. Goddammit.
Introduction blah blah
Q: Can you guys cover character creation?
A: The first thing you do is customize your character. I've seen people spend hours at it. The variety of choices is pretty amazing, you can change height and size of character, and various aspects of character. We aren't just changing textures we're actually looking at the model underneath what you see. When you change something there's a lot going on in the background we don't want everyone to have to fight hard to not make a freak. We tried to support a lot of ethnicities in our game. (Then they show some video of what's going on, blah blah nothing important unless you watch)
Q: Can you import your own JPEG files from which you've designed your own logos?
A: No. But you can make your own in game. We have our own vector based deisgner that you can project all over the world. On characters, on vehicles. etc. There are a various selection of symbols that you may use within the system. There can be skewed or colorized. You can use this to really push your idenity. My only complaint with this tool is that it's often times overwhelming. When I sit down without a really strong idea of what I'm making sometimes it takes me 20 or 30 minutes to get going, but once I do it's so much fun.
Q: These symbols are literally applied everywhere in game?
A: Not everywhere but pretty much anywhere. You can put them on skin, or clothing, or as paint jobs for cars.
Q: Will police equiv. have the same amount of customization as criminals?
A: The short answer is yes. Almost everything will be available to both factions. There will be certain items that will be harder for one faction to get as opposed to the other. (something easy for criminals will be hard for police, and vise versa)
Q: Once you've made your character is it possible to have more than one outfit?
A: Oh yeah! You can create quite a few outfits. You can have completely different outfits or have one piece of outfit involved in all the others.
Q: Are you able to save designs and send them to other people?
A: Yes we will have a few different methods to do that. You can trade them or sell them and really build a reputation for yourself as a logo designer. Every item that is made by a player will have the name of that creator on it so even if you get it from someone else you'll always know who created it.
Q: Driving seems like it will play a big role in APB. Will we be given customization options to vehicles?
A:Well what do you think? Yes. Paint, parts, logos, etc.

Q: Is the game going to have motorcycles
A: Currently we have no plans at release but we're looking into it later.
Q: Will there be monthly fees
A: We aren't going for the traditional subscription model.
Q: I'm just wondering if there will be clans or guilds if so will clans be about to customize their own symbols.
A: There will def. be clans in, up to 150 people. They will have their own symbols and they will have specific places they can put their "tag" up.
Q: Will the game be on xbox or ps3?
A: Current plans are PC release only, after that we will be looking at consoles.
Q: Rough amount of guns and cars?
A: Over 30 different types of weapons, and a wide variety of cars 30+
Q: How does gameplay work?
A: There are no lobbies, when you're going about your business the servers are looking behind the scenes so the other parties can be combined quickly and seemlessly
Q: Have you guys ever taken any ideas from the ABP evolved forums?
A: We have taken a look at the ideas and looking how to apply those. Do we take specific ideas? Not really but we modify what you say.
Q: Please can I come in an Alpha test game?
A: No. (Dated info, now in beta)
Q: Are there any emotes in APB?
A: Yes, we do have emotes in APB. You can flip the bird in game.

I can't wait to see some of the more musically inclined people messing around with their ingame music creator. Hopefully there will be some good tracks over time.

I'm definately gonna be one of those people to muck around with music. I've always been interesting in audio.
Anyway. I saw a comment on youtube about some guy who sort of went off saying that why are they adding all this audio crap when its a game about shooting people.
I wanted to strangle him. Some people have no brains whatsoever.

I can see that point actually. In general I'd have to say that custom audio is not one of the features I expect, or even desire, of a video game. Still, it is pretty cool and I'm sure it will be fun to mess with.
I'm afraid this game is gonna fall in one of two camps. One will be the people that love sandboxing in mmo's and designing all their own stuff. There seems to be so much you can do with the logo's and with the music and with character deisgn that you could spend way more time doing that then playing the game.
The other camp is going to complain that there isn't enough content. They aren't creative types and don't really care so much for how they look but making sure they have stuff pushed on to them to do.
It's sort fo the same set of arguments that came with swg, but in that situation both sides were upset because there was only a little bit for either camp to do. It looks like with APB we'll get a lot of stuff to spend time with that isn't so important to playing the game, but for making the game you play enjoyable to look at.
I'm looking forward to trying this out this evening. I really don't know what to expect from it.
I hope it's well made and the missions are fun. I have this fear that it will feel like Champions Online or City of Heroes. Great customization but the content is total garbage.
Well from what I'm gathering is a lot of the content is created by the two groups sorta warring with each other. Like yeah you might get a quest to deliver a security deposit, but once you take that then the bad guys get a tip off that some cops are carrying a case across town and you need to jack that money for the gang or something, and then mass violence ensues.
I just hope that the 100 person maps are big enough that it doens't feel like a giant fps or something. This was something i didn't like about CoH and CO. Sure I was a superhero but I also say a bunch of other heroes all over the place. When everyone has powers you're not really all that super.
I also don't expect a lot of variety in missions but I'm ok with that.

It seems like a lot of the stuff is going to be player-generated. I don't expect this game to be the next huge blockbuster, but it seems like it would lend itself well to fans of FPS games whom also enjoy role-playing.
I just checked the forums, and now it says the playtest will be open 2 WEEKS, not 2 days! Where are you seeing those groups? I'm talking about the NA beta btw, if that makes any difference.
Just got into the beta and I'm getting consistent 'client update failed' now, currently a few gigs into the download. Anyone have any advice? Should I wait this out and try again later or do I need to clear whats currently there and start over?

I'm all for big maps, but if its too big, people might not be able to get to the missions in time. Say your in a city with 24 other players, and your an enforcer. If the map is huge, and your in one corner of the city with maybe 5 other enforcers, what if theres maybe one 1 or 2 criminals nearby. When they get the mission, they will be the quickest to respond, and then its an unbalanced game.
Still. I hope they figure something out, cause I want this to be good.
