You can give a new character any skill for which you've earned the achievement during character creation. My canon Shep is an Infiltrator skilled in assault rifles, for example, and one of my alts is a Vanguard with AI Hacking.

Oh, that's awesome, I didn't know that. I wondered why my first character didn't get any bonus abilities, but when I made an infiltrator I could give him push. I thought it had something to do with my background.
In ME1, the only class that can advance train in Assault Rifles is the Soldier, right?
aside from setting it as a bonus skill, yeah.
How can you set it as a bonus skill? Is that determined by your backround and stuff?
After you've beaten the game once, new characters you create have a bonus skill slot. You can select any skill in the game for that slot provided you've unlocked its relevant achievement.
so maybe a stupid question but i just started playing ME1, but i see the phrase canon sheppard being thrown around. is that a particular class or just the way you are acting?

it's about importing your shepard to me2. he is "canon" because, according to your preferences, he did things in a certain way.
edit:
it becomes relevant if you're planning on several playthroughs to get EVERYTHING, your last playthrough is generally considered canon because you decided to help the killer mutant goldfish clone instead of killing it.

It refers to the Shepard someone intends to import into Mass Effect 2, the Shepard whos story they intend to continue. It's a person-by-person thing.
Not really, the only person who really "tells you off" is the Turian, while the Salarians and Asari are neutral.
Also does anyone else think hat the Turians and humans only dislike each other because they are so similar to each other?
Hell Humans would do something along the lines of the First contact war in the same situation.....
Absolutely. I consider them the most "Human" of the alien species.
Mostly because they weren't given a "Hat":
Asari are space whores.
Volus are space jews.
Krogan are space barbarians.
Salarians are space speed freaks.
Hanar are space religious fanatics.
Elcor are space monotone cows who like Hamlet.
I think that's kind of unfair to the Salarians. There's a lot more to them then "kinda energetic". Their outlook on war and political history is pretty neat for example.
Salarians and Turians are definitely my favorites of the Mass Effect races.
Krogan on the other hand should be exterminated like the dogs they are. 8-)
Still awesome, but nothing really that we didn't already know. With the exception of cryo armor which we never saw.
The interesting stuff was the power description for class 4 charge. A high impact charge with greater knockback and some slomo time after the charge to escape. Or a charge that knocks back everyone in a certain radius.

I was deliberately being unfair
The negative connotations of my word choices are intentional.
Except for the Elcor, because I couldn't think of anything bad to say about them.
So we don't have any idea who the last companion is right? God, I'm hoping against all hope it's a volus ftw. He slash his opponents in two with low low prices.
PS- Whose voicing grunt???

Whoah, it occurs to me, it's quite the way to lose track of all the items in the area/where you checked, where you didn't check for loot. Still, seems nice to teleport across the map with ease.
Also skills relating to paragon/renegade (champion) = boooooooooooooooooooo.
Nothing says "moral choice" like clicking on one of your power upgrades and having it affect your alignment.

Dove I'm pretty sure your class skill just adds a bonus to the Paragon or Renegade check made to either Charm or Intimidate people. Not adding points to the bars themselves.
So by maxing out your class skill you have a flat bonus to both Charm and Intimidate, which is augmented by how far along each bar you are as dictated by your choices.

That's awesome! That guy's a pretty great actor. What role is he playing?

Yes. You can also change your appearance, but not your gender.
My Shepard has his lips constantly pursed, like he either needs to pee or his diet consists mostly of lemons. I'm happy with this.

We know who all the party members are.
There is no Volus. Or Elcor.

That charge was pretty awesome. Fitting as well that my canon Sheppard is already a vanguard.
Space Eeyores.

As should everyone's.
Also, we've known about Paragon/Renegade modifiers a while now. Actually, I think its a good thing myself.
Shouldn't have anything to do with skills at all.
At all.
