    Soldier video:

Step 1: Load up Gears of War.
Step 2: Only use the Lancer, and don't use the chainsaw bayonet.

So we don't have any idea who the last companion is right? God, I'm hoping against all hope it's a volus ftw.

We know who all the party members are.

There is no Volus. Or Elcor.

Ohhh, so theres only 9? Hmmm, for some dumb reason I thought there was twelve. I guess I thought that cause their called the dirty dozen.

I wonder who Simon Templeman's Han Gerrel is then...

I think that's kind of unfair to the Salarians. There's a lot more to them then "kinda energetic". Their outlook on war and political history is pretty neat for example.

Salarians and Turians are definitely my favorites of the Mass Effect races.

Krogan on the other hand should be exterminated like the dogs they are. 8-)

I was deliberately being unfair :)

The negative connotations of my word choices are intentional.

Except for the Elcor, because I couldn't think of anything bad to say about them.

    Space Eeyores.

But Eeyore is awesome. Certainly not negative.

It's asking you to make a choice to allocate limited resources between combat effectiveness and another, different way of imposing your will on the gameworld. That's been a staple concept of RPGs since they were invented.

The negotiation bonus is just another way of accomplishing tasks. Not having it won't shut you out of story opportunities; I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're going to be well-supplied with choices to make even if you don't put a single point into it, much like in the first game.

Actually, you bring up a good point about recruiting characters with Dragon Age:

I really hope they don't handle legion like they did loghain in the sense that recruiting will piss off another partymember. I liked Alistair a lot so I never bothered to recruit loghain ( stabbed his face goood). I could easily see recruiting legion causing Tali to get pissed and leave the group and I'd rather not have that happen.

I played a Vanguard for my first run through on ME2, and had a blast. Did Soldier for my second run, and it was also a lot of fun. Switched to an Infiltrator for my third run through, and now they are all competing for my 'favourite class so far'.

I can honestly say that all the classes are a lot of fun, and each has its own unique playstyle. Whatever you choose, you will probably enjoy.

Well, if we use the Da:O style of emotional stability of your party mates, I could forsee a situation going something like this:

Tali: Shepard!!!! why the heck did you recruit Legion to our group!?! He represents everything that has destroyed our race and forced us into exile!! Doesn't that mean any thing to you?

    Cash, I guess.
It's still not worth it, really.

I mean, at level 50 you get 35K for surveying some ore. You also get 5-8K for shooting an enemy, and you don't have to drive all over the UCWs looking for Geth or Rachni.

    Here's facts within this franchise:

Game promotes moral choice in handling situations one way or another way. Game promotes the choice made influencing the main character's ability to handle situations in one way or another. Game promotes choices in the game world affecting the character.

As Mass Effect is an RPG as well as a third person shootan, the RPG element was made to hinge on system of moral choosing when it comes to handling situations.

The game breaks the contract by allowing an unrelated system (building combat skills) to affect the system of moral choice (building negotiation skills).

The first game suffered from this plainly. People wanted to increase their skills when they leveled up (to satisfy the 3rd person shootan element of the game), only to be forced to choose whether or not to be able to actually play the RPG part of it to their satisfaction.

You select the moral choice skill, you play the RPG part better, you select the practical combat skill, you play the 3rd person shootan part better.

Now again, in the second one, the player is forced to max a skill out in order to get whatever kind of a bonus to the negotiation moral choice skill, which has nothing to do with the actual RPG element.

The strife is unnecessary. It's an attempt to meld oil and water. Should have learned by now to keep one system looped to itself, and the other to itself equally.

A skill maxed by spending points gained by having the character killing enemies or completing quests has nothing to do with choices made during conversations and the player's arbitrary choices regarding situations they find themselves in.

Do you understand the breach in logic and the malfunction of its use as it applies to the systems?
