Finished Bayonetta. I'll certainly be returning to it on-and-off to unlock more stuff or whatnot, but it is moved off the backlog. I was surprised how much fun I had with it. The over-the-top everything was incredibly fun.

So, I am deciding what to focus on next. With my wife returning to the US Saturday night, I'd like to see if there is a 10 hour or less game on my list I can get through before then. Anyone know if any of the following fit the bill?
    Call of Duty 4 (PC)
A Boy and His Blob (Wii)
    NiGHTS (Wii)
    Elebits(Wii)
    Ghostbusters (360)
    Gears of War 2 (360)
    Resident Evil 5 (360)
    Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360)
    Batman:AA (PS3)
    Okami (PS2)

Elebits and NiGHTS are not particularly long but it depends on what you want to do. Both are short to finish but if you're looking to 100% either game it will take longer than 10 hours.

I can't decide now whether I should keep some games on my backlog. I've already beaten a few, it has just been years and years, and after buying them on a new system like the virtual console, I've wanted to complete them again.

But with work and everything, I just don't see how this is going to work easily.

Shadow of the Colossus is finished, and good riddance! It's a shame that such a beautiful game was let down by such a catastrophically bad control system.

Despite the list I gave, I ended up playing Virtua Tennis 3 for over 2 hours last night. I am at rank 7, and will consider it complete when I either get to rank 1, or lose a number of tournaments in a row :P

Elebits takes forever if you want to 100% it.

Just a quick runthrough though is maybe five or six hours, tops.

Well, I'm stuck in Phantasy Star again. Stupid first person dungeons. They confuse me so much.

I'm going to have to end up mapping them out...which is funny, sine I haven't done that in years.

Valkryia Chronicles, a game I've wanted long before I started doing this backlog challenge, is a difficult game to find. I just happened to come across it at Toys'R'Us yesterday when browsing around killing some time. $40 seems a bit... over priced? But it's hard to find, so maybe it is priced pretty reasonably.

So, I ask you thread, what would you do in this situation? Go back and buy it or go through my backlog like I should be?

25 or 40. Hmmm... I always forget about Amazon and they have pretty good deals on there usually.

I think I'll hold off for a while and start hacking away at my backlog and then I'll hit up Amazon. I was actually planning on staying on course until FFXIII. That game I am jumping off the wagon for. Not falling... unless I trip.

    Update 1/10

Finished Fallout 3 main story line. Since I have the GotY edition, it has the expansion so it "continues" the story on after the main line. I'm going to set that aside, cause I don't really care that much about it.

I think I'm going to start Oblivion, but I don't want an epic, so I'll probably get settled into inFAMOUS until that's finished.

Also, I removed HL2 and ME from my PC list since I can't play them, no reason to make my backlog look larger than it really is. I'll add them back when I get a PC that can play them.

    Killzone: Liberation
    Ace Combat X
    Wipeout Pure
    Wipeout Pulse
    Puzzle Quest
    Both Syphon Filters

I own probably 10 more than what I've listed (loco roco, Patapon, pursuit force, burnout dominator etc) but have no real urge to revisit them.

    If you could recommend, although you shouldn't, anything in the vein of;
    - Quality arcade racers.
    - Ace combat-esque flight shooters.
    - 2/2.5D/Isometric scrolling action-adventure.

    That would be quite sporting.

Never tried Dead Head Fred. Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank are also okay action platformers that I'd easily recommend too, but don't live up to the bigger cousins on console. It's a shame, but they're still pretty fun, if you can get used to the controls (If you try one, here's a tip for controls - set the movement on the nub to 'strafe' and turn yourself normally by turning the camera with the shoulder buttons. That should have been the default).

Mass Effect is beaten. Just as good as it was the first time, and now I have a good save on the right profile to import into ME2. I am curious how I managed to get the Quarrian ally achievement but not the Krogan one though. Wrex and Tali were with me all the way through the story as soon as I picked them up. Oh well, I got Tactician and wasn't expecting it so I'll take what I can get. Not sure I have it in me to try again on hardcore or insane. And I know that the remainder of Pinnacle Station is not for me (glad that it was on sale when I bought it) unless I ratchet down the difficulty when I (for some dumb reason) try to whore achievements from an RPG.

I don't think I can bring myself to finish Far Cry 2.

I'm almost 20% through the game (so the menu says), but everything is just so ...hollow.

This game has incredible animations and the immersion is great, but I don't really like the gun play, respawing enemies are such a pain, there is no real stealth system, and having to trek across the map for every god damn mission (and encounter those same, respawning checkpoints) is not interesting at all. There is little to explore and little incentive to do so.

Of course, the environments are absolutely gorgeous (African sunrise over the river, anyone?), and the randomness of RPGs and IEDs are great, but ...ugh. I'm so bored.

To stay with the metaphor, I'd say it never got on the damn train - meaning, no real direction or purpose. At least the first Far Cry had purpose.

Goodbye Far Cry 2 and Red Dead Revolver!

Red Dead is bugged and can't be finished on the 360 ...since I don't have an oXbox, consider this finished.

Far Cry 2 is too hollow and boring to finish. I will never play it again, and it will forever remain unfinished. Beautiful fucking setting, incredibly optimized engine, fantastic immersion (health system is amazing!), cool mechanics with rusty and unpredictable weapons, but I'm done.

Man, what? I must be the only guy to really dig that game. I completed it and loved every second of it. Picking guys off from a ridge on the other side of a dried out riverbed was one of the highlights. The other being blowing up a target truck using an I.E.D from the top of an airfield tower. It was beautiful.

But I do tend to favor the games with stunning settings like Just Cause. It had its problems but it was so relaxing and I guess that's why I like Fr Cry 2 as well. Ambience is great, while it lasts.

Anyway, Mass Effect 2 is coming along nicely but I stumbled. I'm getting Dante's Inferno. I suck at this. I've picked up nigh on every major game release so far this year. Bayonetta, Darksiders, ME2 and now this. On the plus side I'm refraining from Bioshock 2, which is fucked up. Dante's Inferno over Bioshock 2....... I'm losing it.

It really is a shame, because, as you said, the potential was incredible.

Both of my IEDs were duds, so I pulled out my RPG to take out the weapons convoy. I fired my RPG ...which was also a dud, and plopped dead in the dried grass at my feet. I stared at it for a good five seconds.

Suddenly, the propulsion system engaged, spewing fire in a tight circle, setting the field a blaze. The blaze from the fire crossed the road and set off the dud IEDs, destroying the convoy.

...Great stuff can happen in the game, but ...ahhhhghrgrhg. So frustrating because there is so much there, but so much left out at the same time.

I just remembered the first pretty great moment I had in Far Cry 2.

Early on in the game, a 'buddy' and I were slowly stalking up to a house around dusk/early-night. I had scoped out the place prior during the day to find out the best way to sneak in, the areas least guarded and ultimately how to enter the house undetected. I had the gameplan in my head, the route memorised on my map, and set about execution.

I sneaking around the outside of a chest-high fence, crouching down. Pause, listen, move, pause, listen move etc. I finally get to the point where I sneak into the compound and in the 'pause' part of the sequence I hear rustling behind me, and an increase in chatter. Shit! I turn around and see a figure running at me and without thinking I no-scope the guy, unsilenced, with a sniper rifle.

"Your buddy needs to be revived"

Goddamn idiot! I'm spending all this time being super cautious and you just charge in here like a bull in a china shop! So I hussle over to him because the hornets nest just got stirred up, and click to select him. What's this? Do I want to heal him or... kill him? Screw this guy! *kill* And my character pulls out his pistol and just tops him! Brilliant!

So with my cover effectively ruined, I pick up my dead buddies machine gun and lob a molitov cocktail at a nearby parked car to get the party started. Cue a night-time explosion that draws everyone out and either sets them on fire from the grass fire it made or makes them real nice and easy to hose from the darkness.

    Mission Complete :D

If only that level of awesome wasn't only <5% of total play time.
