It was more of a chore, I guess for some. Since you have to keep switching your guns at safehouses in order to not fall into the situation you fell into Daemonion.
No, the situation I described were the things I loved about the game. Having to adapt to unpredictable circumstances.
Having your gun blow up in your hand, the RPG shell deflecting off your intended target, pushing a bullet out of your forearm, watching fire engulf outposts ...all that was really awesome. Everything else, though? Eh.
Well. Windows crashed while saving in Arcanum, so now my save is corrupted. My level 29 save, which I've spent days playing now, while I was at home after having my wisdom teeth pulled, and was FINALLY FUCKING GETTING INTO, is now corrupted. FUCKING GREAT.
Now I can either start over, and play the exact same game over in mind-numbing drudgery, or put it back on the shelf and start it over again later, AGAIN. AUGH.

Ha! I like to do the same thing.
Sorry about the lost save file. That is the worst. I remember losing a 60-70 hour save in Final Fantasy VII when I was a kid. It would have been much worse if it had happened when I wasn't 13.
Started Mass Effect 1, holy shit is this a polished game! I hope I don' t experience any of the problems people had with it getting repetitive. I have pretty low standards, so I'll have some fun.

Bummer, dude. That really sucks.
After this has happened to me once or twice I've gotten into the happen of always having two hard saves and (if possible) one quick save. I alternate saving between the two.
Fileplanet has an arcanum save editor, so I think I'm gonna try for the super cheater route this time. I just want to get the damn game done at this point, I must have started and not finished this game like 3-4 times by now.
I think we're up do date again. I apologize again, I simply seem to only really have the time to sit down and do this once a week or so. Let me know if anything is missing.
Beat Uncharted, great game. I started the second one and while the story appears to be better, I'm not really getting why everybody says it's so much better than the first. You still run and climb on things and you still shoot at bad guys.

Dragon Age: Origins is down. My goody two shoes noble dwarven berserker killed a lot of darkspawn on his quest. Next up is Mass Effect 2, that should be a quick one to knock out.

Man. 22 hours into Mass Effect 2 and I still have a loyalty mission to go before hitting the main mission line for the last time, which will yield another companion and loyalty mission, and I still have loads of side missions. This game is so much bigger than the original.
A work mate just lent me Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice on the ol' PSP so I'll toss that on the backlog Should satisfy my arcade racing/shootey shoot PSP craving for a little while, just hope it as the reviews say and not as amazingly unfair/difficult as the first one

I was looking forward to playing Pursuit Force so much. Then it turned into that pile of difficulty walls. Fuck it.

Same here, bought it within a week or so of it's release. Few missions in-WALL. Occassionally you would be on a miracle run then accidently hit a car or not be accurate enough with your shootingggg aaaaand you're thrown back to the start.
From what I've read in the reviews, there're three difficulty levels and a more common-sense checkpoint system. Everything else with the game was pretty much fun so I've got high hopes.
Also, have you heard of this game called Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble? It sounds fucking hilarious, check this out
Initiating fights requires use of your menchi beam, a laser that shoots from your eyes, and is an important weapon for anime badasses the world over. If you manage to connect with another guy's menchi beam, you enter a "trash talk" state where you bark a pre-set insult using the face buttons to select the right words. Succeed, and you can get the first hit; fail, and you fall on your butt at the outset
By the sounds of the various reviews I've read, it could be a less-hardcore, portable God Hand. Sadly the cheapest I've seen it on an import is >AU$50 on eBay. It was only released Nov '09 though, so I'm happy to wait 6 months because it sounds pretty rad
Not that you should buy it.
edit: Holy crap you can beat people up while wearing a full-body banana suit I... I want this
I decided to do something that always cheers me up, make an int 1 character, and see how long I can play before I get tired of them.
Ok, so I actually am up to level 30 in arcanum now, and I'm enjoying it immensely. They did a great job of changing all the dialogue so people react to you differently, while also making sure you can complete the quests. It's hilarious to see how differently people treat you.

I read on GOG that Arcanum was made by the old Black Isle dudes who make the first two Fallouts, is the vibe of the game similar?

This is not a double post. I just beat Dead Space as well. Three games in one weekend. And one thing I've realized is this challenge isn't so much about saving money for me as it is about playing quality titles I never finished.

Bought Splosion Man for 400 points, and also stumbled across a free XBLA game called Aegis Wing. I intend to use the latter as gamerscore padding and to completely finish the former.
DOONE with Arcanum! It was very different from my normal rpg playthrough, and I left a lot undiscovered, but by god, I'm done. And I may actually go back with a more leisurely playthrough later to discover everything.
Like I mentioned, it's very different playing as a total idiot, it's kind of funny/sad to hear everyone insult you constantly, dumb things down for you, and expect you to accomplish absolutely nothing. It actually felt kind of heartwarming to think of this poor ogre, just trying to figure out this crazy world around him, just him and his dog.
It was only him and his dog because once virgil did his thing where he went off and died, I couldn't bring him back because you need an intelligence of 5 to use the resurrection scroll that's there. And Gilbert Bates attacked me after I instigated the orc riots in tarant. So really, it was just him and his dog.
The ending was kind of a letdown, I thought. I liked how they did the 'what happened in the towns you went to' thing like fallout did, but there wasn't a whole lot of them, and it didn't cover coming back from the void at all. Just felt like there were a lot of details left out.
All in all I liked it, though you do have to get through some issues to get to the good meaty parts. Even with all the patches, I STILL had a main storyline quest I couldn't finish, I had to kill a dude just to move on.

It's pretty similar, in that it's all about freedom of character choice, a million things to do, somewhat grim setting, but with humor as well. I think it's pretty comparable to the fallouts. More of a convoluted main plot though.

I just finished Mass Effect. Jesus fucking Christ is that game good, probably one of my favourite ever. Don't be surprised if I fall off the wagon real soon for the second one. I'm sure you guys understand. I'm not done with the game since I wanna go for a full 1200 gamerscore from it, but it's beaten, so it can officially be crossed off the backlog.
I think Fable II is next on the agenda. Let's get some RPG's out of the way.
As usual, here's my list of completed games.
Beaten:
Klonoa (Wii)
Lost Planet (360)
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (360)
Mass Effect (360)
Beaten since the challenge started, but I do not own and therefore do not officially count:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

Mass Effect 2 is really, really, really, really good. Really. I only played ME1 near the end of last year, and it was one of the best RPG's I'd played. ME2 was better. It's really good. Really.
But this is the backlog thread, so I guess I should encourage you to not fall off the wagon? A lot of people did for this game though.
I have been busy lately playing Diablo 2 (Which I had for a while but already beat) and not playing any of my backlog. Oh well, I should actually beat Final Fantasy X this week during my days off.
