    !FallofftheWagon +3? 4? 5? I lost count..

I picked up Hydrophobia. It was a dollar!
I also bought Kid Icarus for $15 from Best Buy. I figured I'll probably never see it cheaper for another 5 years.
A friend of mine picked up NSMB2 for me so we can play coop.
Oh, and I got Rain Slick 3 finally when it was on sale the first day of PAX (which I was not at).
    I don't remember if I commented when I pre-ordered Borderlands 2, but I did.

Yeah.. I can't help myself sometimes. I have been making some good progress in AC2 though! I'll get some more playtime in tonight and tomorrow. Hoping to finish it. But I also just got into the StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm beta, so I'll probably spend some time playing that.

I've been slacking on my challenge and need to get back to it. I got sidetracked when 3D Dot Game Heroes hard locked as I entered the Fire Dungeon boss room. I lost all of my progress in that dungeon and never came back to it.

    !Update 41/87/1

Started F.3.A.R. It's pretty fun. Music and presentation have not yet outdone the first F.E.A.R.
Beat Conker's Bad Fur Day. Here's a mini-review if you like that stuff:
There are some great examples of awful conveyance in this game, especially the character who won't let you progress to the next part of the game until you've found $2,110 (and there is no in-game communication that informs you that you need this much money). The "escape-from-the-beach-while-being-shot-at-by-dudes-with-bazookas" part was the sort of anger-inducing head-slamming that makes controllers fly through walls. However, the absolute *WORST* part about the game's controls is definitely moving while in first/third person view (like, with crosshairs up). Your view will pan to random directions without your sayso, and you can't change up/down look out of inverted.

BUT there are good things about it. One of the bad guys inadvertently creates your healthbar. It has action platform gameplay that was usually fun to play, made me laugh, and was definitely odd to see occurring on the N64. Lots of shameless plugs at Mario 64, Terminator, The Matrix, Aliens, Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan/Full Metal Jacket. I actually had a great time with all of the boss encounters. I would complain that the story is bad, but I'm confident that the devs made the story bad on purpose to drive home just how ridiculous the game is. The ending was also kinda depressing actually.

Rareware knew what they were doing when the 64 came out. DK64, Banjo, and Conker's Bad Furday are all top notch platformers in my eyes. The music is fantastic in Conker and blends so well with the environments. Like the main theme will be playing and you'll go inside the beehive and it will still play but it will be muffled, stuff like that goes a long way for me. The graphics were awesome at the time, kinda blocky now but the colors are still really nice. Not to mention how absurd it is, the game itself is just ridiculous. I see how you can get lost as it's generally an open world kinda game, you can do some things out of order and there are side missions and stuff. However, I still think it's definitely worth playing if you haven't already.

Oh and yeah, super depressing but fitting ending to a hilarious game.

    Gears of War 3 beat'd.

If you liked Gears 1 and 2, 3 is exactly more of the same. So, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't high art or anything; the summer popcorn flick of the video game world, if you will. Also, <3 shotgun.

    StatusUpdate: 15/87

Moving back to college didn't really do much for my backlog, but there was one notable success. I sat down and ground out Conan for the 360. Yeah, this one's a few years old, but it was one I'd had sitting around half-finished. I'm still chipping away at Persona 4, but I might be looking at a fricking restart.

    Progress Report: 15/87

    Color Code:

    White: Games not started yet.
    Magenta: My current project.
Lime: Completed games. Every three means I can treat myself to a points card- 360 or Wii, my choice- for whatever I want to use it for.
Red: Games I either buy or get as gifts- as if I don't have enough to play already...
Orange: Games that are just too wrecked or shitty for me to get any joy out of completing them.

    !Update 42/87/1

Finished Bayonetta on Normal. Definitely the go-to in action platformers on the 360. It actually tries to do something different in terms of theme, color palette, scope of bosses, and did I mention COLOR PALETTE. The protagonist is memorable and exciting to play as. The first few times she comes up against a boss that is 20 to 30 times her size, you (the player) will get scared. But Bayonetta just
laughs at her foe, pokes fun at him, strikes a flashy pose, then tears him to tiny, tiny bits.

This game is absolutely gorgeous in terms of visuals. Every boss encounter was like it's own puzzle. The localization leaves me wanting for clarification sometimes, but it still did really well in conveying what was going on in the story.

The action sequences literally had me catching my breath. FUN TO PLAY!!

Ancient hardware problems rear their ugly heads. Playstation 2 doesn't work anymore either, so those games are off the 'log.
I guess Nintendo is the real winner when it comes to museum pieces, as everything they ever made for me (including this N64 I found next to a dumpster) is STILL WORKING >_<

I'm itchin' for some Mario World 2 now. Bunch of other stuff crammed into the "current projects" bin as well.

    !Update Status, 144/566 (+3)

Broke down and did pre-purchases for Air Conflicts: Pacific Fighters, since I enjoyed what I've played of the previous game, and X-Com: Enemy Unknown, because X-Com! Got FTL: Faster Than Light as a gift, and the free Steam weekend for Saints Row The Third caused me to end up buying the game.

Removed CS:GO, because it's multiplayer and Counterstrike. I'll pop in for a few matches now and then, but I've never been a big CS player anyway, and this isn't likely to change that.

Officially saying that Diablo 3 is beat, having crossed Inferno tonight. Will be playing it for years but I'm "done" with the main quest, so off the backlog it comes. Now back to the console where Ninja Gaiden 2 awaits.

I bought the HIB6. I had most of the bonus games, but I didn't have most of the base package games. Plus I want those soundtracks.

    Update: 7/9 3DS

It's been a while since I could mark a game beaten since I have been jumping around so much (Heroes of Ruin, NSMB2, Kid Icarus, AC2, Borderlands 2, FTL, Mark of the Ninja, etc) but I'm marking down NSMB2 as beaten. I saw the credits, it's beaten. I've got a TON more to do in the game, but I can always toss it in for some fun later and knock out a level or two. Time to put Kid Icarus back in the 3DS!

FallOffTheWagon / Update Status: Bonus Round (9/∞)

The free weekend of Saints Row: The Third hooked me and I bought it during the weekend sale. I don't feel too guilty because it was the first game in a while that got me excited about playing a video game. And I finished it today.

I was slogging through the final dungeon in 3D Dot Game Heroes (Gift backlog) and I started playing

before SR3 interrupted both of them.

    !Update 43/81/1

Super Mario World 2 beaten again. I even figured out what happens when I get 100 on all levels in a specific world: I unlock one ridiculously difficult level, and one "get-a-bunch-of-free-lives" level. Neato!

    Oh Ikaruga, please be gentle....
***EDIT*** Ikaruga is even more frustrating than I remember. I am SUPER glad that it only has 5 levels.

    StatusUpdate: 16/90

This is a bit of a mixed update, with 3 !FallOffTheWagons and 1 game beaten, completely.

On the wagon end, I picked up the Simpsons arcade game, Golden Axe Collection, and X-Men Arcade Game. Honestly, they're all pretty good.

I did just grind something out after deciding to put Persona 4 on hold for a week- I completely cleared Super Mario Galaxy, on both quests. Two-hundred forty two stars. Observations? Fuck Cosmic Luigi. You have to be essentially spot-on to beat him- one screwup and you have to re-run the entire race. Not to mention fuck the purple coin level on the Dreadnought Galaxy and Luigi's Purple Coins on Toy Time Galaxy.

    Progress Report: 16/90

    Color Code:

    White: Games not started yet.
    Magenta: My current project.
Lime: Completed games. Every three means I can treat myself to a points card- 360 or Wii, my choice- for whatever I want to use it for.

Decided to try to get the hardest games on my list out of the way, so I started playing Chantelise and Super Meat Boy. SMB wasn't too bad until I got to World 4, then I hit a brick wall. I made it to Dungeon 2 in Chantelise and then spent the rest of the day grinding money to buy HP upgrades.

Fell off the wagon for the Rome: Total War for a measly $1 Steam sale. Also, X-Com hit its Tier 3 pre-order bonus, so Civ 5 showed up, and an infusion of classiness gifted me Gratuitous Space Battles, BIT.TRIP RUNNER, Jamestown, and Wizorb.

On the plus side, I finished Pursuit Force. Meh. On the upside, it was free, courtesy of the Great 80710a06 Crash. On the downside, it's got a steep but uneven difficulty curve, dodgy controls (the analog nub is too sensitive, the D-Pad is too binary), and an entire game mode (Time Trials) that are completely pointless unless you're playing hotseat competition with someone else, which You Will Never Do, unless you want to inflict pain and suffering on someone under the guise of friendship.

Moving on, my backloggery fortune cookie says that my next portable game should be Super Scribblenauts. Works for me.

Maybe I should buy one of those MS Surface tablet/laptops when they come out for the express purpose of making my Steam library portable, since that seems to be the one segment of my collection where I'm making good headway.

    Update PC: FTL
I beat FTL finally! Had a crack squad of mantis boarders to kill off the crew and accidentally left the only crewman alive on a section that gets destroyed. :P No problem though as I set a fire to the ship and breached it to destroy its hull without much fuss.

7 hours? I should be playing games like that instead of AC2 and FTL putting tens of hours into them. Still haven't finished AC2 yet, I should get back to that.

Actually, it only took about 4. There were already 3 hours on the counter when I restarted the game yesterday since the last time I played it was a few years ago. Keep in mind that was just a bare minimum playthrough. Didn't go out of my way to A+ the levels, collect anything, play the warp zones, play any of the Dark World levels, or replay levels after completing them.

You do have a ton of short, great games (2 to 10 hours) that are listed as unplayed in your Steam library, though. :P

My backlog ruling is if I see credits, the game is beaten. It may not be complete, but I've at least played to the "end". So that's fine if it's a minimal playthrough. Only if I really love a game (or if my kids love watching me a play a game) will I continue past that point. Too many games to play to put 100s of hours into each one.

I think I will be joining in. My XBOX 360 recently red ringed, so rather that fix it I figure I will take some time to work on my non-XBOX 360 backlog. (whenever the 360 gets fixed this list will increase exponentially).

Games that I am currently working on

I am currently playing a bunch of games at once. I cycle through the current games for a couple of hours each until I loop back to the start and begin again. I have to do it this way, otherwise I will switch games and never come back before I finish any game.

Wii (I primarily bought the wii for the gamecube Resident Evils and Final Fantasy IV:The After Years)
    Xenoblade
    The Last Story
    No More Heroes 2
    Dead Space Extraction
    Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands
    Cursed Mountain

    GameCube via the Wii
    Eternal Darkness

    WiiWare
    Phoenix Wright (first game)

Playstation 2 (I was unemployed when I owned this so most games I beat several times)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
    Fatal Frame
    Obscure 2
    Disagea 2
    Persona 4
    Growlanser 5

    Persona 3 FES

    PC (most games from GOG)
    Jagged Alliance 2
    Icewind Dale
    Icewind Dale 2
    Wing Commander 3
    Starcraft
    Diablo 2

Edit: This is probably going to make people mad, but I was going to add Shadow of the Colossus to my backlog, but I must have hated that game so much during my abortive first playthrough that I threw away my copy when I moved.

    Update Status: Gift Backlog (20/29)

Finished Chantelise! The final boss was absolutely ridiculous in length and difficulty, but that's probably my fault for not spending more time grinding cash. I was getting tired of playing the same levels over and over.

9 games to go. Not sure if I can finish by Christmas like I originally intended (Skyrim, Peace Walker, and DKCR worry me), but I'll get as close as I can. I was going to move on to Metal Gear 2, but after playing two brutal games side-by-side, I'm going to take a break with Ratchet & Clank.

    The Gift Backlog (20/29):
    3D Dot Game Heroes
    Ace Attorney Investigations
    Alice: Madness Returns
    Braid
    Batman: Arkham City

Oh no! I started playing the Mechwarrior: Online Beta. All hope is lost. My backlog shall sit with Metro 2033, BoDVII, PoP:SoT, SMB, all in various states of progress for the foreseeable future.

If you just wish to finish the story for DKCR, it shouldn't take you too long. Should take even less time if you have a coop player to play with. There are only a few levels that require trial and error to know the pattern and get through them. Solid, fun game though.
If you wish to 100% the game, good luck. :D The challenge levels and challenges in the levels can be brutal.

That's good to know, thanks! I initially gave up playing it back when I still had a "must 100% everything" mindset. I went ahead and (re)started playing it alongside Ratchet & Clank since I seem to be more productive when I'm playing two games at once.

You're better than I am then. I do play more often I suppose when I'm playing more than one game (something else to do if I get stuck or don't feel like playing that particular game right then) but then I also get distracted more easily. ie. I'm playing Football Manager 2012 again. I don't know why, but I am. I should be playing AC2 or Borderlands 2...

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I'm already done with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

Currently stuck on the "Caves" boss in DKCR, which is overly long and full of horse crap. R&C will be replaced with Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MGS HD Collection).

I beat Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (HD Collection) on Original Mode. It gave me the ranking of "Zebra" at the end. I don't know what that means, but I'm pretty sure it's condescending.

I'm in World 7 of 8 in DKCR. Got so fed up with a barrel rocket level that I used the Super Guide for the first time. I'm not sure what I'll replace Metal Gear 2 with. Maybe Mario & Luigi 3.

Zebras are well known for their camouflage capability.

    !FallOffTheWagon, 70/242

So, I did a bad thing. Like, four of them actually. Looks like I've got a little habit of making impulse purchases when I'm tired, so now I'm the proud owner of 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (plus a pre-order for its sequel), Xenoblade Chronicles, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, and the contents of Humble Bundle 6. I'm going to make up for it! I'm setting a new rule for myself. I'm theoretically in the market for a bunch of new hardware that I don't actually need in any sense of the term. Namely, a 3DS XL, a new graphics card, and a Wii U in a short while. So the rule is gonna be that I won't be picking up any new hardware until I've hit 50% on my backlog.

For what its worth, 999 is the one of those that I've touched so far, and I adore it. Xenoblade gets to wait in line behind a bunch of other half finished JRPGs, and Apollo Justice was futureproofing for when the iOS versions of Phoenix Wright 1-3 hit.

I am a champion at being really shitty at getting rid of a backlog.

Oh hey, I almost forgot about Borderlands 2. Toss that on the pile too.

    Update Status: Gift Backlog (23/29)

Finished up Donkey Kong Country Returns.

I'm 3 hours into Mario & Luigi 3 and it's kind of boring compared to Superstar Saga. I'm going to replace DKCR with Scribblenauts while I have my DS out. I think I stopped about halfway through it originally and the internet says it only takes about 5 hours to beat, so hopefully it will only take a day or two to knock off of my list.

And one of these days I need to grind out several dozen lives in Sonic Unleash so I can try to beat the (awful) final level.

    The Gift Backlog (23/29):

Games that I am currently working on
    Game complete

Dead Space extraction is completed 1/79 complete

I would have had Dead Space Extraction completed last weekend, but I had the wrong loadout to face the last boss and had to replay the level. No pulse rifle==nearly impossible, pulse rifle==cakewalk. I also had to wait for Dead Space to come back around in the rotation (and even then I skipped it a couple spaces forward).
