Alright progress! I've beaten Civ 5 G&K twice now, Science Victory and Culture Victory. The culture one was as Ghandi, but not before I went on a Frigate+Privateer rampage.
Beat the Walking Dead season 1. It's not pretty. None of the decisions you make are good, they're just the best you can do at the time given your shit circumstances.
Turns out Final Doom is actually two games in one: The Plutonia Experiment and TNT Evilution, so now it's half done. So hard on Ultra Violence difficulty...but very gratifying when you beat it. Also bragging rights
Friends got me Monaco and FEZ. Look forward to those.

I have marked all 360, PS2, and OXBox games "Previously Owned", and all "Unfinished" games for these consoles have been changed to "null" status. As I no longer own any of them.
I have also added "The Last of Us" for PS3, beaten.
I have also added everything (I think) in the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for PS3, with a "Beaten" tag on MGS1. Because it's the only one I've ever really played, and I did beat it.

Rather slow... obviously given the nature of my backlog
Picked up three games, two of which were on my radar for a while. Namely, Dragon's Crown and Tales of Xillia. Knocked out Dragon's Crown rather quickly and sitting in Inferno mode but having a decently high level Elf and completing Normal and Hard mode as well as the first few Chaos Labyrinth stages and progress in Inferno makes me mark it as 'done'.
Muramasa got 'finished' off with both story routes and up to grinding out to complete everything in the game and get the 3rd endings for both characters. Really love the 2nd ending boss fight. Throughout the entire game you fight minor trash and the bosses being huge demons or gods with one or two exceptions and finally you get to have an honest to goodness sword duel. Lots of clashing of blades and spamming 'Judicious Usage' of ougis.
Tales of Xillia is new and actively in progress. Heck, being a new shiny is the best chance it'll get finished in a reasonable span of time. Currently finished with 'Chapter 1' of most likely 3 given the standard structure of Tales games. So far, I'm having a lot of fun. It's a little rough trying to unhook my mind from using the Tales of Graces movement scheme (Up is not forwards, it's Jump again!). Cruised around in the 'Medium' difficulty until I hit a boss where it was obvious I needed to grind a little bit before being able to beat it. Probably going to double-dip and grab the Japanese version as well because I'm a total sucker for one of the protagonist's VA (Miyuki Sawashiro!!!) and it's obvious that Milla's lines were written with her in mind to play the role.
Final Fantasy XIV:ARR is an odd one. I'm including it only as it has a substantial enough 'single player' quest line. Once I'm done with that quest chain and get a max level character, I'm striking it off the list even though MMOs only end when the servers shut down.

Free PS+ games continue to be a burden on the list. I'm thinking that I should give them the same policy that I do free mobile games, which is only officially add them if I finish them. Despite the negative score, this is sadly a pretty good year for me. I usually make a much larger backwards dent in the backlog.
EDIT: I did just that. Now I feel a little less awful about that stupidly large number and can see what I actually spent money on. The actual point of this grand experiment and all. Oh, and I switched my colors around to actually go with the vanilla forums instead of cut at people's eyes.

I don't want to be double posting, but its been weeks. I was doing pretty well on the not-spending-money front, but then Nintendo happened. I couldn't really be expected to not buy Wind Waker HD, and that fancy Ganondorf figure broke my spirit pretty fast. I also got a wonderful gift of Pokémon Y that is likely to eat up more or less all of my free time for a while. It isn't on the list, but I am so close to "beating" Animal Crossing: New Leaf and its a great feeling. "Beating" in my case would be paying off my everything with a fully upgraded house.

Skyrim is holding me back, so much to do. Felt good to knock half life 2 off.
It's a definite anchor on the ending to an otherwise fantastic game.
I know it's not important to debate the realism of Parasite Eve, but if that came up, the answer would be "FUCK NO I'm not going to that show. Let's go bowling, or like, anything else instead."
Powering through the Mass Effect trilogy at the moment. Crazy how close I am to finishing off this list. If I could just find the will to get through the rest of Okami.

Pretty huge overhaul of my status on games. I've bought games, finished the odd one, and majorly fallen out of electronic gaming due to getting interested again in tabletop wargames. But! I'm in a situation for the next few months where I can't really do any tabletop wargaming, so it's time to dust off the old PS 3 collection and finish some games.
Right now I'm mostly working on finishing The Last of Us, GTA 5 and Assassins Creed 3. These are the 'big games' on my list right now that I want to finish before I get my PS 4.
Also all PSP games gone completely due to my PSP 2000 battery biting the dust, and Vita section added due to getting one for Christmas.
Just. I don't have a ton of words for it, but it really sucked me in when the pace picked up. Its just good. Go play that.

I made a nice dent in the list. Firstly, I burned through the new Tomb Raider in a couple of nights. Gorgeous gorgeous game. I think the gore is a little overblown, but the gunplay was solid, exploration scratched a certain itch. It was short, but I didn't want it to be much longer. Very solid action game.
Then I went on a crazy Ys binge and played through Origin, I, and II in the last few weeks. I'm really starting to love that franchise.

Oh boy, have I been bad. Let's start with the additions: Steam Autumn sale and a Humble Bundle added Dust: An Elysian Tale, Deadpool, A Virus Named Tom, Eetz Munchies, Endless Space, Mark of the Ninja, Organ Trail: Director's Cut, Risk of Rain, Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, Shadowrun Returns, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Tomb Raider, and XCOM: Enemy Within. Also decided to visit a used game store today, and picked up a copy of ICO for Playstation 2, which I heard I needed to get around to playing.
Good news is I finished Enemy Within, and finally drove the final nail into the coffin of Final Doom; 60 levels of ultra-violence difficulty sent back to Hell at last
Not sure what to play next; friend of mine got me into BSG and I can't stop watching it.

Got a PS4 and put the games I have on there. Black Flag is the complete opposite of AC 3. Where that game was dull, dour and not fun, Black Flag is vibrant, bright and enormously fun. I've sunk about 20-30 hours into it already, and I'm only about 40% through. Shadowfall is Killzone, so if you liked the previous games like me, Shadowfall will be great.
Sony seems intent on giving me a huge backlog for my Vita at Christmas. Between PS+ and freebies from a 16gb memory card pack I bought, I'll have 7 good games right from the start. And with Soul Sacrifice going PS+ at the end of December... wow. Talk about value. Thanks Sony!

I cleared off a few games over the holiday, namely the original Phoenix Wright and Modern Warfare 2, which I now realize are a really strange set of games to be playing in tandem.
I also ended up buying The Wonderful 101 on sale, but I don't feel bad about that for a second.
Now if I can just clear Wind Waker HD off in the next few days I could end the year with having beaten as many games as I bought.

Starting the new year with a backlog refresh. I slimmed it down quite a bit. There was no shortage of games that I probably won't actually get around to, and now I think I'm looking at a pretty reasonable amount of content for the foreseeable future.
Last year was not a good year for the backlog. I officially ended it with a net loss of zero titles, and while I have to pat my own back for not buying more than I played, zero wasn't really the goal of this experiment.
This year is off to a good start. I'm still making dents in Justice for All when I have a free moment. I'm definitely tackling that one in bites, but its been enjoyable. Aside from that, I booted up The Last Story and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Seems like it might be a bit short, but that's not a complaint at a time like this. The combat is just fun across the board.
The big change this year is my new gaming arrangement. Lovely new gigantic monitor has shifted all of my gaming related gizmos into one comfy locale, so now I've got regular easy access to all of my consoles. It was pretty tough to get those games rolling when I couldn't get out to them for all but an hour or two a day.

I have fallen from one wagon, down to another wagon, and immediately bounced off of *that* wagon. New acquisitions are: Batman: Arkham Origins, Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Rogue Legacy, Super Hexagon, and The Walking Dead: Season 2 (which is basically unbeatable until later this year).
Somehow neglected to add FTL to the list, which I have also beaten. I just have lots more ships left to unlock
I checked System Shock 2 off the list, and now I'm going to gush about this game. Gushing and spoilers follow.
Honestly I could talk for days about SHODAN. When you first get introduced to her, the game delivers one of those horrifying moments where you feel like you're a powerless worm, completely at her mercy. A fictional artificial intelligence, capable of commanding your respect, with the omnipresence of a deity. Even the way she presents herself is terribly unsettling, and the fluctuations in her three voices compliments her monologue flawlessly. Gave me chills for days.
Oh, and during the ending, another revelation. SHODAN has been awarding the player with the resources necessary to get upgrades for stat increases, skill increases, etc., for the entire game. During her little post-boss-fight monologue, she points out that all of these precious modules, which you save up to get that next upgrade that will give you the slightest edge in finishing your tasks, are like toys to her.
Also played through Arkham Asylum again, and started playing through Arkham City again as well.

I just now beat The Last Story. This isn't a totally innocent moment since I also had my copy of the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection arrive. I only added the two games I haven't beaten out of that group to my list, so here's welcoming MGS4 and Peace Walker to the backlog.
The Last Story was really pretty great, even if some of the story went full anime at some of the more predictable moments. I was thrown off by the length and pacing, since I clocked out at only 22 hours, which is massively short for a JRPG. I really loved the combat and cast, and I get to officially say that I've beaten one of the Project Rainfall titles. One down, two to go.

There's also that issue that some games are too compelling to put down. For instance, there's over five hundred hours of my life put into Torchlight II despite having beaten it around the thirty hour mark.
Yet, is it really that terrible to put the Backlog Challenge on hold when a game is worth putting that extra time into? Dark Souls II came out recently, for instance, and I'll spend a massive amount of time in that game before I move on.
On another note, I've started dating my progress updates on my Backloggery profile. Hopefully this will give me perspective on when I left off on a title!

Falling off wagons. It's what I do. Humble bundle got all of Civ III and IV. Got gifted Red Dead Redemption, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, and Binding of Isaac. Watched Yahtzee's Let's Drown Out of Just Cause 2 and decided I needed it. Broken Age and Banner Saga are out of Kickstarter Limbo and able to be played. Forgot to add Trine 2 a while ago.
All of January and February was dedicated to beating Rogue Legacy. It scratched the castlevania itch *so* well. Only had to try Vertigo trait once, and it was like having my brain squeezed through a straw. Even the text and healthbars and dialogue boxes are upside down *AND* backwards! I remember seeking death as quickly as possible, to alleviate the agony. Loved this game so much, I got every single achievement, and beat the new game+ as well. Started into a new game ++, but it was really painful...might come back to it later.
Now my new addiction is Red Dead Redemption, which came out years ago. Just got it gifted to me and I thought I'd start a new game for an hour or two, and then it was 5am. Can't put it down! I stroll across the wilderness, minding my own beeswax, and a pack of wolves start nipping at my horse's heels. "Wait, I have a sidequest to kill wolves with my knife!" Dismount, knife those wolves, skin them, ooh look a flower I can pick, ooh look a man running from the marshalls [lasso'd]. It's got this perfect balance of Skinner Box, and *just* enough of a quest log to keep me interested, but not buried under an impossibly large list (looking at you, Skyrim).
Stumbled across SpeedRunsLive dot com recently; hard to stop watching. Probably going to drop some coin on a nice RGB monitor + capture card + Mario 64 + gamecube analog stick mod for N64 controller soon.

Now, I realize this isn't a huge deal - I'm neutral, right? Well, that includes ALL games purchased in the last Christmas sale, plus 15 more games which were gifted to me in various gift wars in the Steam thread. Only new additions which I've actively made this year? Burial at Sea Episode 2 getting added, and 6 games from two humble bundles - the rest? Either gifts or items which I'd been given/purchased during the Christmas Sale. So given that, getting back to neutral is....not bad.
Anyway, onward and upward. Here's to staying in the black.
Which made me remember I never added... a lot of things to my Backloggery account. I believe it's up to date again, but sitting at 119 game unfinished.

I'm a slave to sales. If there's a game I'm just marginally interested in at a discount, I pounce on it. Doing this, plus Playstation Plus and Games With Gold have gotten me drowning in a sea of games that no single person should be expected to complete. Maybe if I create a definitive list, I can guilt myself enough to stop wasting money on games I don't finish.
