If you live 1+ hours away from your friends then the problem is you. Make new ones.
is.. is this some kind of joke post? do you still live in the same city as all of the friends you used to play NBA Jam with on the SNES when it hit in 1993?
edit - hell I don't even keep in contact with most of those people but since then I made whole new crops of friends in high school and then university and hardly any of us all ended up in the same city, the world just doesn't work the way you think it does
ahahahaha sheeple you sheeple and your online gaming.
let me tell you buddy: me and my friends are almost 30 years old. my friends don't go to people's places to play NBA Jam. if anyone wants to play a video game together it's Rock Band or Wii Sports. that's like once a year at most.
if I want to play this game with my friends who live around the country now (we all moved after college) I have to play online.
I'm 31 years old. I have no problem having people over my house to play video games.
Quit getting mad at video games.
Nobody is getting mad; dude made a blanket statement regarding how most penny arcadians might be able to play games. Some penny arcadians aren't in that stage of their life anymore so he was called on it.
Getting people together to play games isn't a "stage in life."
Yeah, it is. Getting people together requires working around: wives, jobs, kids, pets, hobbies, family, etc. For a lot of people my age, they live 1+ hours away from their friends; scheduling has to be done. Someone who has a part time job or is still in high school or college (PA's demographic) has a much easier time just calling up a buddy to play Wii jam in their living room.
It is much easier for me to send an email to my friends while I'm at work and say "hey lets play some Jam tonight at 9". Playing video games in the living room was fun in college and high school but that is not a reality anymore.
If you live 1+ hours away from your friends then the problem is you. Make new ones.
I agree, these fucking nerds making "friends" online. They aren't real bros. Just try this every once and awhile, walk outside and say hello to real people. How do alg, muggins and Hardtarget function? Do they buy a sixer of PBR and have game nights with online friends? That is fucking sad, coming home to plug in online and chat with complete strangers. :?
itt I learn that I must immediately cut contact with anyone I play games with who lives more than five miles away from me, and make entirely new friends, all because online gaming is dumb.
Thanks to Algertman, I've seen the light.
Seriously though, dude your last few posts are probably the stupidest thing I have ever read on the internet.
I'm sorry that during my early twenties I decided to stop sucking my mom's teat and leave the house, get a job, buy my own home, start a family, and not live 2 minutes from all my pimply face college friends that want to play NBA Jam in my living room.
Also 2MuchJuice do you have your collar popped while you're typing? I'm sure that helps with your WPM.
Oh wait, some of you don't know what WPM are because you're still working at taco bell getting you through community college
Holy mother of shit get off his back. He was basically saying that this game wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable ONLINE vs OFFLINE. He wasn't shitting on online... He was using the track record of past NBA games as his basis of shitty online.
Anyone who says online is just as fun as offline is just plain wrong.
I hope Colin Cowherd is in the XBLA version, if only so I can elbow him so many times. Such a douche.
edit:
Anyone who says online is just as fun as offline is just plain wrong.
Meh, here we go again with people asserting that their life situation is the right one.
Of course my opinion is right. Duh. This game was designed as an arcade game. Played with greasy hands, and a messed up A button with your friend to the right being the douche who always plays as the Bulls.
In fact, fuck the Bulls. I don't even care about this online vs offline shit. Fuck you Scotty Pippen.
I've seen (and smelled) a Smash Bros tournament. I can objectively say online is more fun than offline. :P
Couch multiplayer is a lot of fun, and there's a lot of energy there, and it can definitely help make the experience better, but goddamn sometimes it's nice to play a low key multiplayer game without having three other dudes yelling and high-fiving each other and yelling "OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!" right next to you every time they make a basket.

I can't believe you guys are being such silly geese in here.
Both local and online are fine ways to play with friends. Myself for example have a really close friend that moved two states away and one reason I love my Xbox is that he and I can still goof on the game together and chat...very much fun.
On the other hand though, I'm 30, married, own my home, have 2 kids and still have friends locally that my wife and I get together with every couple of weeks for gaming nights. Smash Bros, Mario Kart, GH or RB, as well as several other games we have for that purpose are all played by this same group. It is very fun to get together and just have fun with friends who are close by. (note: I have kept in contact with no friends from high school and/or college so none of them fall into that bracket)
And in my opinion as much as I love having the ability to play online available, nothing beats playing games locally with a group of close friends. But not everyone has that type of social circle that are all close by like I do, so I understand how some indeed find online play crucial.
Also blame the developers on this one. Plenty of other EA games have serviceable online on the Wii. Basketball is rough...5 on 5 that is. 2 on 2 should be manageable. The fact that it isn't should be taken out on them.
If you don't mind waiting a bit and paying ten bucks more there is no reason why the PS3 and 360 versions won't be better now. The Wii version has fantastic controls and is out now. Those are it's advantages. Within a few week however that fades away and the only thing it'll have is price. It's not like the classic controls won't work just fine on the other two and barring a horrible port job they should be superior.

If I have friends over it is usually to watch NFL or eat dinner or cookout or if I need help doing something, not usually video games
I wish I had the time for that, though
Just wait until you have kids. You will be like a spanish conquistador finding a gold coin in the new world with your free time. You'll dive on it and kiss it and hoard it and stab any dark skins that try to take it

wait, what?
That is why I haven't had kids yet
And I'm not gonna have 8 like you

I can't imagine the motion controls are gonna be better than using a 360 controller... but I'm a serious sports gamer
I'm not even sure if you're being sarcastic there, or just making no sense
What game is "NBA"?
NBA 2K
NBA Elite (which is the new name for Live)
NBA Jam
No need for Street because why would EA push out a product which was essentially "their" NBA Jam to compete against the license now that they have it?
Also I never played Ballers but isn't it basically Midway's take on Street? Does Warner Bros. even have the rights to make NBA games now that Midway themselves are defunct?
I was making a joke re: the possibility for NBA Jam to turn into a yearly sequel machine and how that would suck because market saturation sucks.
NBA was the game Sony was releasing each year, alongside NBA 2K which was Visual Concepts, and NBA Live (now Elite), which was EA. For a while there were at least three NBA games being released every year on the PS3.
Basically, we have enough freaking basketball games, the last thing we need is for NBA Jam to be turned into a cookie cutter yearly franchise.
How am I going to pay $60 for something that was a pack in for a real $60 game? 1600 MS points sounds about right, and it does exist, and the new modes sound like shit,
All I want is NBA Jam +Online play
Ph and why did NBA live become Elite

It's probably not 60 bucks, that's an assumption, although probably an incorrect one.
Any word on release dates for other versions? I'm not a fan of motion controls but my girlfriend might love playing this on the wii.
How are the other modes? I saw a bit on giant bomb's quick look and the boss fights sound interesting but none were unlocked, the tour thing they did looked like it could kill some time. Can you use just the wiimote to play (minus nunchuck)?
Also no doubt in my mind if this game was priced at 50 dollars as a wii title, no offense intended towards the wii, with HD and online play they are going to aim for that 60 dollar price tag. 50 at the least but I highly doubt it.
This is $20 title by Christmas. There is to much stuff coming out for it to not get lost in the shuffle. The Wii version alone has to go up against Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Golden Eye. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Golden Eye gets stuck with the same problem.

Just a Tournament Edition
Because Tournament Edition of the original Jam is the ideal version of that particular game
Anyways, yeah, the new NBA Jam in HD with Remix mode and online multi? I will pay $60. Not even a question.
EA source says they're in fact working on it as a retail release, although it's not decided yet if it'll be budget or 60$.
I guess it depends on how much time and money they're going to spend duct taping Wii modes onto it at the last second.
Apparently people that got the downloadable version from the pressed copies of NBA Elite 11 are claiming that Remix modes show up as DLC for that version of the game.
So it was pretty much planned that they'd be for that version all along, they're just putting it in one package now instead of selling it piecemeal.
EA source says they're in fact working on it as a retail release, although it's not decided yet if it'll be budget or 60$.
Might as well rename it "Retail Poison" then, they're going to be real upset to see how short nostalgia runs at a 40 or 60 dollar price point.
Shit I barely ever pay full price for AAA games anymore like Halo Reach or Call of Duty and I'm the target consumer with money to burn. Add to that they're releasing it at the same time as about a dozen guaranteed million-sellers this holiday and this is going to be the last Jam remake they attempt for awhile.

It just happens
Only if it sells poorly or they do an NBA Jam 2012: Tournament Ed- OH MY GOD
EDIT: Holy fucking shit what happened on the last few pages
I think that the market can definitely support an NBA, NBA 2K, NBA Live, NBA Elite, NBA Ballers, NBA Street, and NBA Jam game every year for $60 each.
I think that "NBA" should just break off from the sports moniker and become it's own Genre.

$40 and lower and its bought. Don't see how they satart off at $40 though. XBLA diminishes from Wii version
Didn't this come out a few days ago? Did no one here buy the game?
