As far as price and such, yes it is a boxed product for the Wii, which I'm ok with, as I still prefer my physical copies to digital.

this is one thing I'll never understand about G&Ters. Do you just feel the need to display empty boxes on a shelf or something? As soon as Steam came around I went digital on every product I could. I wish more companies would embrace digital distribution.

but those boxes aren't empty. they have discs in them. i think a lot of people still aren't comfortable with the idea of not having a physical backup of a game. I have this niggling fear in the back of my head that years from now, I'll want to play a game I purchased online in the past and not have access to it for whatever reason. Yeah, it's kind of silly, but at the same time it's kind of not.

I'm just an old timer, that's all. It was just recently I finally decided to get an ipod and start getting into digital music. In most cases, if I really like an album I still buy the physical cd.

I also like knowing I own the product and not just the source code, which can be lost and not guaranteed to get the game back if lost.

But this is just the way I work, I am not against digital by any means. I mean VC/WiiWare/XBLA all have me pretty much addicted, and I've even started buying a few major games digital such as some of the games you can get on demand on the 360.

So I'm slowly doing it, but I'll never completely give up on physical media, or at least until they completely do away with it and I'm forced to. :P

Hows that not a fair opinion?

Plus it was me who called it garbage, you're really quick to apply statements to people you disagree with, regardless if they said it.

I don't like waggling around a remote control, therefore I would not like this game in it's current iteration. Would you be this upset if the game was only available in black & white and I called it garbage because it wasn't offered in color?

"I think motion controls suck" is not a bad opinion. "I think motion controls suck, so I will refrain from playing any games which contain them" is not a poor decision to make based on this opinion. "I think motion controls suck, therefore no one else should ever be able to play a game which contains them" is essentially no different from "I don't like gay sex so no one else should be able to engage in it", and is pure silly goosery.

Now, can we move on to how much NBA Jam rocks and how much the current NBA can blow me?

OK, some shameless self-promotion is on the way...

So they had a contest on the JAM facebook page where four people have the chance to get their own lines into the game, and out of the 2700+ entries they had, mine is one of the final 64! My line was for a missed shot..."I can see his momma laughing in the front row now!" and is in the HE'S ON FIRE! bracket.

Would my PA peoples vote for me this coming Wednesday? If I'm reading the details right, it'd have to go through several weeks of voting to finally get in.

Click on the BOOMSHAKALAKA tab on their page to see the contest stuff. Anybody got my back here?

Hey, guess what? That 360/PS3 version of this game, you can only get it by buying a different basketball game.

    http://kotaku.com/5603068/nba-jam-confirmed-for-360-ps3-but-theres-a-catch
After months of rumours, EA Sports confirmed today that NBA Jam won't just be released on the Wii, with high definition versions also on the way for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Warning: some bad news follows.

While the game will technically be coming to the PS3 and 360, it won't be available individually. Instead, it'll be included as a downloadable title (via a code) in $60 copies of EA's regular basketball title, NBA Elite.

"We're still holding back the Remix Tour for the Wii consumer, and that's about 20 hours of gameplay," EA Sports' Jordan Edelstein tells ESPN. "But for the PS3 and 360, we want people to try 'Elite'. We feel like 'NBA Elite 11' is a great product and we want people to give it a chance and see all the changes we're making. So as a way to say thanks to these people, we are going to let them experience 'Jam'. It's not the full product, but it's a good portion of it.

"And the only way to play 'Jam' on the 360 and PS3 is by picking up 'Elite'. There's a one-time use code that will be in every copy of 'Elite', so you just go online and redeem it. We're not selling 'Jam' on PSN or Xbox Live. If you still want the full product, the full experience is on the Wii, but if you pick up 'Elite', you're still getting a good taste of it, especially with the inclusion of online play."

Way to go, EA. I didn't think it was possible to dampen my enthusiasm for this game, but you pretty much just found a way to do it. Either pay full price for a Wii version that (so far) lacks online play, or buy a basketball game I don't want and get a glorified demo of the game I did want.

Then again, since this will both boost sales of NBA Elite and kill the game's re-sale value, it's probably mission accomplished from where they're sitting.

No, EA only has two guys working on the online mode for the Wii version. Companies do this all the time - Call of Duty 3 was ported to Wii by two guys, and they were only given a disc of assets from the PS2 version to work with, even though they also requested 360 assets.

I didn't think of this. That's pretty cool, I guess. I don't know if I want to pay $40 for NBA Jam, though. Glad it's coming to 360, I'm almost 30 years old, my friends don't want to play video games locally.

I'm really disappointed by this turn of events. Between Jam being bundled with NBA Live and the Remix Tour being cut from the HD versions, it's totally killed my anticipation for this product. Best case scenario is that this is really a Call of Duty Classic situation and it goes on sale separately some time in the future, but there's no indication of that and it's really more wishful thinking on my part.

I think I'm just going to dig up my N64 and play some Hangtime instead.

EA used to call it NBA Live, it has blown for years and years. NBA 2K series is the consensus for best basketball (and some say all sports games) for years and years. EA renames NBA Live "NBA Elite" and relaunches it with NBA Jam included.

    Step 3. Profit.

#1 - NBA Jam is worth full price.

#2 - It looks extremely fun.

#3 - They are working on online multi, and the game will already have local multi. Local multiplayer is all I care about, as I'm not much for online for most games and mostly get games that I can play with my wife, daughter, or several friends that we have over periodically to play games that we can all goof with after dinner and with a few beers. This game will fit that bill very nicely for me. :D

I'm sure it was worth full price in 1993. I demand a better pricepoint in 2010, especially with so many good games competing for my dollar on XBLA. I guess being a Wii gamer you have nothing better to spend your cash on.

Unless as per my cig, I'm also a 360 gamer, and will still be buying this on the Wii rather than the 360. 8-)

Also, we don't actually know what full price is for this game yet on the Wii. I doubt it'll be fifty though. Also the XBL/PSN versions are missing the Remix Tour which is one of the main draws of the new game.

in other news, they should still just sell the damned game on its own merit, not package shit with games we don't want.

Please tell me what Remix Mode is

I will then decide if it's worth getting NBA Elite for a downloadable NBA Jam or just waiting for the inevitable retail version

The game will be split up into two modes, a classic mode which will play like a traditional NBA Jam experience, and a Remix Tour which will feature all new camera angles, power-ups, and boss battles. Players will be able to choose between Wii remote, Wii remote and Nunchuck, Classic Controller, and Classic Controller Pro control styles. The Gamecube controller will not be supported. Online play is still in development. Tim Kitzrow, the announcer from the original NBA Jam will be returning and will be saying all the lines from previous NBA Jam titles as well as some new ones, such as the popular internet meme "Boom Goes the Dynamite!"

Remix Tour is basically like the games career mode with a whole bunch of stuff added in. Plus it has boss battles with Legendary ball players like Michael Jordan and such. As far as I know, this is how you unlock a bunch of stuff in the Wii version.

This is on top of the other modes announced for all three versions.
