I love him a little less now.

Yeah, it certainly doesn't feel like the servers are trying harder or anything different to spoof their player counts.

No, some of them have gotten smarter. It used to be they only spoofed the player count in the server list. Now they've upgraded by spoofing the count, and spoofing player names when you do 'view server' (which traditionally, was how you identified fakecount servers). It appears they cache players who have been on the server recently and return a random list of them.

Then you get into the game.. and the server is half empty.
Check playertimes. That's the key. Most of the times, bots are in the 200+ hour ranges.

They aren't bots. They're actual player names that you can look up on steamcommunity.com with real-appearing play times (anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours). Go check out the Alpha Omega servers, they all do it. See if you can detect they're spoofing player counts without joining the server.
A problem with words. Not bots.

In any case, looking at this:
    http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/66.90.103.192:27016/

it seems exceptionally easy to tell that the players are being spoofed, by my strategy mentioned before. Time played varies from 99 hours to 541 hours. Hmmmm.

Though my favorite bit of TF2 voice related trivia is that the voice actor for the Medic is also the voice actor for Tavis Touchdown from No More Heroes.

The only time I've seen a person playing for much longer than an hour, let alone more than one, was on PA servers.

People play there for 6 hours sometimes and seeing multiple people at 3h+ is not uncommon.
What's even more hilarious is I tried getting some random kid into TF2 and he got hooked on 24/7 2fort.

He then proceeded to call me bad and a noob cause I didn't have 350 points by the time the map ended.

The map was 4.5 hrs long.

What class? I've gotten around 160 points in under 40 minutes before. That was as medic, I also routinely break 100 in the same time if I play engi (teleporters are point hax).

Seriously man, at least go for 2x. On a modern computer it has almost zero FPS hit, and fixes most of the jaggies. :(

Oh no I simply meant he was giving me shit for not having as many points as the top people.

Then I told him they've been in an endless 2fort server (not 24/7, like NONSTOP 1 map of 2fort) for almost 4 hours.

I don't even know how people can do that and still have fun.

You don't count, you live in like backwards input land. Where people use the keyboard to aim and fire, and the mouse to move and jump.

Used to have it bound so it changed spy disguise weapons when rotating through the spies weapons.

Maybe I'll make it a voice spam wheel, like I can spin it to select a voice command and press it to spam it. I already have my primary one change spy disguise weapons, and pretty much nothing for all my other classes.

Set up a cycle of aliases, whenever the mousewheel is spun it assigns a random voice emote to the middle button. Every time you click the mouse wheel, it spams that voice message.

Quaz or Wally you should set up your scroll wheel to assign explode to a random button (that you actually use normally) and then every time you spawn you spin it a bunch. It'll be like playing a sort of Russian roulette: will crouching make you explode? Quickswitching?? Jumping??? Shooting????

Agreed. Sometimes it's fun to hunker down on a server and make pubbers cry.

I can't do it for hours, but 45 minutes or so when I get up on a Saturday? Sure.
