The New Comic Thread for Wednesday, January 6, 2010
Also this comic feels like it could also be about ARMA2.
Countless other battlefield games and other military shooters. Incidentally, replacing the name "MAG" with "Battlefield" fits rather nicely in the corresponding newspost, primarily when Tycho's talking about the "Optimal round." I haven't played MAG, but such rounds tend to be enough of a rarity for me in Battlefield and it's ilk that I have a hard time getting excited for such games anymore.
Have you ever played WW2OL? Dwarf Fortress doesn't even compare. You can be staring right at another infantryman in a bush looking at you and not even know it. Shooting at it to check is a huge risk because then anyone nearby will now know that you're there. It is the absolute epitome of 'I died? How the fuck?'
this describes every game since counter strike. I miss the rocket launcher

this is like mw2 when you first start, but you only get to run for 3 seconds and then get killed by an attack helicopter/ harrier/ bomb strike/ missile/ guy with a thermal scope that you didn't see

At least Counter Strike has servers where, once you die, a line is drawn to show where you were shot from.
Also, if you want rocket launcher, play like UT or something. Fast-paced FPS games always result in me dying from some fucker I don't see, or if I do see 'em I'm caught in some fucked up free-for-all that lasts for three seconds between 10 guys.
I don't remember what it was called but on the original X Box they had a game that was like 64 player multiplayer and it was essentially the same story. If more than 20 people were in a game it was laggy as shit and every single map was made for like 60 fuckin people.
You would run around for 15 minutes and probably never see an enemy or a friend.

Seriously. Whenever you died, you did not know how you died. It was just a quick fade to a black screen. No explosion noise, no gunshot noise half the time. And it was like this in whatever unit you were using. So in a tank you had no idea if you were killed by another tank, or if it was some douche infantry with a stickybomb.
Yet, I somehow found it in my heart to enjoy that game.
I played shitloads of this on Monday. For the 1st day there was only a couple glitches, I've seen worse open betas...
I didn't realize you had to level up to open up new maps. That's kinda shitty.. So are "powerups" and more powerful weapons, but that's the current trend in viddya games I guess. You kids today I swear... I made it to level 8 in about 4 hours. Healing gives you better XP I guess, I used my points on weapons and junk instead.
The maps.. er the MAP. is a little big but not too bad. If you die you do have to run a bit to get back to the action, but it's not THAT long, 10-20 seconds maybe not really 5 minutes. The worst part is when you miss a respawn and have to wait another 18 seconds - you RTCW/Wolf:ET players will know what I mean here.
I love the game really, but don't see it de-throning MW2. I guess the later levels have vehicles and stuff, otherwise it's pretty much "action shooter 1234" with all the same weapons we've seen a million times before.. At least the teamwork and the level design is much better than MW2 and there's none of that bullshit "kill streak" bullshit crap shit crap. Oh and the weapons aren't total bullshit, you have to actually AIM.
Snipers aren't that bad really, it takes 2-3 shots from most of the snipers to kill you, and everyone can heal themselves (if you bring a health kit, which everyone should). But I have to say, when I first started playing my kills:deaths was like 1:10, then I grabbed a sniper rifle and in about 1 minute got 10 kills in a row and went 35:3 or something ridiculous.

I read this comic and now i have that old song "i was walking through the park one dayyyyy, in the merry month of may" stuck in my head
Also the nice thing about snipers is they don't get nearly as much XP as people attacking/defending the objectives. I once got like 4 kills and beat someone with 18 kills because he was probably just sniping fools as they left their spawn while I was running around capping objectives.
So is this game like battlefield, where you join up, and are placed in a map of limited size, or is it more like an MMO where you have a world to run around in?

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Also I am guessing I need to read the newspost to fully enjoy this comic?
it is an incredibly simple joke
I am guessing MAG is a video game
and the art is funny!
Mag?
so I play a sniper
It's not that much fun so I probably won't buy it but hey free beta so why not get my snipe on

Nothing can have as steep a learning curve as that game. Even figuring out how to spawn was a trial.
