Yeah. Really, it is more so that later in the game enemies become a lot faster/harder to read and hit for big damage.

It's quite hard, but it's forgiving. I've given up on getting anything but Stone medals for my first playthrough in some of the later areas, but at the same time it uses actual goddamn checkpoints, it has infinite continues, it lets you make your own health items at any time, and it always presents you with something new and interesting to do. And yeah, the demo was one of the easiest areas.

Nothing sapped my will to play more than getting killed right before a boss in DMC1/3/4, or on one in DMC1/3.

If you really, REALLY have trouble with Witch Time you can buy yourself an accessory that enables it automatically when you get hit at the expense of Magic.

You can also buy the accessory that let's you block&counter enemies and then enable witch time through that.

Hell,if you get your playthrough time to under 3 hours you get one that let's you enable witch time at ANY TIME for some magic!

The Moon of Mahaa-something or whatever? If he's having issues with dodge-Witch-timing, I doubt that accessory would help much.

You know how some demos are just awful for the game they're trying to push (Uncharted 1's come to mind), there really should be a big pink disclaimer in the OP saying that the demo does a very good job of giving interested players a sense of what the game will be like in the full version, and it's a must-download for anyone still waffling on the fence.

The moon countering is super forgivable cause you can just mash the stick into the direction and 99% it will counter.

And he IS talking as if he at leas tis decent in DMC,so I take it he can push a stick into a direction at the right time.
The window really is very forgivable.

I really thought the demo of this game shows exactly what the end product is going to be. Devil May Cry version suck.oh. Seriously, the game takes Devil May Cry and adds shit to it. Why would you do that? They add combos, which are very unresponsive and do not perform what you try to do, so you end up mashing buttons. Witch time is a joke, cause it rarely happens even if you do dodge perfectly.

So what's the appeal to this game? Why should I play this over Devil May Cry, cause apparently there's a giant fan base for a game that's just a rip off of another game.

They actually do work. The combos that is. I know because when I do the combo the moves come out. Witch time isnt a joke at all. Learning that is essential to learn the game. The reason it isnt working for you would most likely be because you arnt dodging at the last second like it says but early on before Witch Time would activate.

But that's my biggest problem with Witch Time is it has to be done at the last second. Sometimes the action is moving too fast with 5 guys gang banging you that you can't always possibly calculate the last second, therefore it becomes pointless. If you actually focus on getting Witch Time then, you're going to fuck up and die. And it's when you have 5 guys on you like that that you really want Witch Time.

Maybe I just wasn't doing the combos right, but I never felt like they went off as I hoped. But like I said, I mashed buttons and I got the same results. It's like playing Street Fighter. The combos do work, but you can sometimes get better results mashing buttons.

Seriously, I played the demo 3 times thinking it'd get better with each play and I was disappointed. I thought I'd like the game, and I don't.

Nah you arnt alone man. This game is definitely hard to get good at. When theres a lot of enemies its easy to get destroyed and hard to get the Witch Time rollin due to constant attacks and being knocked back and maybe not seeing an attack from offscreen and what not. Its tough. No doubt. But thats something I like. I love the feeling when Im not good at a game but then triumph over it and end up being really good in the end and impressing myself and others with what I can do while they can barely beat a game on Normal or something. It was like DMC 4. I loved being able to destroy levels on the hardest difficulty without getting hit while while my friends are over there complaining about a level on the Normal difficulty.

Its all about learning to play and lots of training in the field of the game. Maybe the random combos are what are getting you killed? Try learning some and comboing them together. The results could show. Maybe play some levels you have a hard time with and retry certain scenarios with different weapons or attacks or learn when to dodge certain things. Maybe battling bunches of enemies often will get you better at Witch Time and dodging. You never know.

But I definitely see where you're coming from. This game is unforgiving. But I think, especially after watching that OP video of that dude annihilating and doing those sick combos. That it will be one of the most amazing to master.

Edit: and I mean Unforgiving as in "you will die a lot and get raped in just a few attacks." It really starts off tough and only gets tougher.

And if you're bad at witch time, just get into a group of enemies and start training by just dodging.

the window for witch time really isn't "at the last second" at all. It's actually pretty wide. Some enemies are just immune to witch time or you need to dodge an entire combo to activate it.

Yeah, you pretty much are invincible for a few frames.

Also, you can dodge EVERYTHING. Every damaging thing can be dodged,no matter what. You can dodge THROUGH molten lava, THROUGH lasers etc...

Hell, that first traincar in the second chapter? The one not on fire? You can run after it and if you touch its' back,it damages you. You can DODGE THAT DAMAGE TOO.

I can never decide which weapons I want to take with me. I'm currently trying for a sword/whip combo for air juggles but It seems that I still need way more practice.

Also that whip is useless against quite a few enemies, so it might be getting ditched either way.

So it's safe to assume that at least a few enemies in the game won't grant me witch time at all? For example:

    Chapter X spoilers:
The glowing yellow version of Grace & Glory that attack near the end of the chapter in the corridor. I spent the majority of that fight dodging seemingly endless attacks and I don't think I ever got Witch Time to trigger. Hell, I think I died over five times in a row on that fight. Grace & Glory are just the hardest enemies for me to face - especially if I can't get enough magic stored up to initiate a torture attack.

Also, I just beat the game. Absolutely loved it. Now I just need to go complete the rest of the Alfheim gates and get platinum on all the normal difficulty chapters.

Is there anyway to practive combos other than the loading screen which is usually nonexistant for me since I'm playing from the HD?

I would love to have access to a training mode at Rodins shop where it gave me that move list on the right hand side of the screen and let me figure out just what the hell I'm doing.

I find the R2+Select to skip cutscene tip to be very helpful, especially for PS3 users who dont' want to have to wait to pause and go to skip. It's useful so you don't have to see bayonetta slowly walk out of Rodin's shop or even for a second playthrough.

Dunno where you'd put it but it might help others if it went to the OP.

edit: Oh another interesting trick is if you lock-on an enemy, and they're close to you, Bayonetta will blow a kiss at them and they will get stunned for a bit and throw up or something. Not the stars over head stun but kinda staggering there for a bit. You have to wait for her to finish blowing the kiss so it's not very practical though.

Giant Bomb just posted their quick look of Darksiders and it seems incredibly boring - especially after the craziness that was Bayonetta. I think it's the, IMHO, poor art design and bland one-button combat. Mind you I haven't played it yet, but my initial impressions from the videos aren't very good.

Does it play any better? The reviews have been pretty positive overall, so I'm willing to consider giving it a closer look.

Going from Normal back to Easy really highlights how much the game actually does for you (pro tip: It's a lot).

I love this game dearly, but dread the frustration the challenges of Normal and higher will be.
I remember playing DMC 1 and just utterly destroying that game inside and out. I never really followed after that.

I guess where I am difficulty wise is a good place given my circumstance. The general consensus from what I read seems to be that this is a more difficult game in general than most of the DMC games. I guess opinion factors into that wildly, but it's what I've been reading.

There is a lot to face at once and a lot of the enemies don't telegraph clearly because there's just so much on screen and it's all glowing and or white/gold.

It's like a mass of glitter suddenly starts to attack you, so about halfway through I stopped caring about being good or even dying and started treating it like godhand. Watching for what I should do and experimenting a bit each time to figure out the best tactic. Switching weapons and shit. Especially trying to specifically look for the telegraphs for each creature which often got me hit.
you know what though, I swear that lady in the death screen makes me play better. There have been times I did badly then "The Shadow Remains CALM" and then I kick their ass the second time.
Even though I usually think to myself "Does it? DOES IT REALLY??"

I'm doing a lot better now but I still die a couple of times on the later levels. Still, way better than my first time around each level. There's something about this game that makes learning easy if you are know what these games are like, but I can't really pin it down.

Mind you I bought that witch time if you get hit item which is great help for when you are learning attacks because the attack that hit you gets slowed down so you can see it clearly. It also prevents the enemies from comboing you as you witch time away from them mid combo.
