Yeah my gf and I both heard calm.
She would remind me of it when I died and looked frustrated. She would repeat it to me and giggle at me when I gave her a look like -_-

Basically you are this long haired blonde dude in nothing but leiderhosen and all of your weapons are tied to different drag queen outfits and you are actually a clown escaped from an intergalactic traveling circus that also devours entire galaxies but you are not down with the whole traveling circus bit because you are FROM THE FUTURE and you got this job as a clown to specifically devour these galaxies yourselves for whatever it is that equates to PROFITS and you fart out blue hedgehogs as your signature attack.

Yeah. I think I too will have to swallow my pride and start using healing items until I get better at dodging enemy attacks.
@Breakdance: That move is surprising effective for evasion.
So it's safe to assume that at least a few enemies in the game won't grant me witch time at all? For example:
Chapter X spoilers:
The glowing yellow version of Grace & Glory that attack near the end of the chapter in the corridor. I spent the majority of that fight dodging seemingly endless attacks and I don't think I ever got Witch Time to trigger. Hell, I think I died over five times in a row on that fight. Grace & Glory are just the hardest enemies for me to face - especially if I can't get enough magic stored up to initiate a torture attack.
Also, I just beat the game. Absolutely loved it. Now I just need to go complete the rest of the Alfheim gates and get platinum on all the normal difficulty chapters.
I'm starting chapter XII in a bit, and I concur wholeheartedly. Fuck those guys! I just went crazy with the claws and and kept offsetting the PKP combo to knock them around a bit. They make Joys look trivial. Speaking of trivial, the basic angel fights in the later chapters are a lot of fun becauyse they last all of five seconds. :P
Edit: Missed that training mode was already added to the op.

Wow at some of these alfheim's. They're pretty interesting rather than dmc4' and 3's just fucking frustrating.
They teach you how to play the game properly once you complete them too, making you faster, more efficient, better able to dodge and such.

Yeah, I found that fighting Grace and Glory was as much luck as skill at first. Then I spent an hour doing the Alfheim where you fight them with only 10 punches and 7 kicks, and you can only take 3 hits. By the time I finished that, I wondered why I found their attacks so hard to dodge before.
As to that voice that sounds when you die, I could have sworn it was Isabella Rossellini from my time with the demo.
I could and am probably wrong...but that was what I thought when I first heard the voice.

See, the shadow remains cast doesn't make sense because she's lying on the ground at that point. She's not casting nothing. Now if it said it when you hit continue that would make sense but it doesn't. It says it before you can press a button.
So I remain unconvinced that you are not all experiencing a mass delusion.

She's a trained fighter dude. One who makes a pact with shadow.
So shadow references to her and calm references to her training. Most trained fighters are meant to remain calm and taught to remain so.
Which is why I prefer calm. It makes that line much more badass because the old lady sounds like an old fighting mentor.
I get your point but in fact I had already gotten your point and that point isn't really the point if you get my point.
And again, she says it before you press continue so that does not actually make sense. I'm sorry but it does not make sense. What if you press no? Womans gonna feel pretty damn silly isn't she. "Damn I guess she's not cast after all"

You need kilgore and claws.
Kilgore is in chapter 9.
I just tried it out and it does do a ridiculous amount of damage but on the other hand if you don't abuse it shit is quite fun.
I'm probably just going to use it for farming though, because I love the ice skates more. They're just such fantastic fun. You can freeze people and throw them at other people with the lift command.

Oh shit I just found out if you taunt a dude he goes berserk and if you attack the dude while berserked you get magic power much faster.
Gonna go try this out.
When you jump cancel off an enemy with rockets on her feet she shoots them with a rocket.

Yeah, watch the Courtroom scene again and then play that level/die deliberately. It's pretty much the exact same voice. Now I keep imagining bureaucratic aliens are really behind it all, which is why the game is so ridiculous.

THE SHADOW REAMINS CAST IN MY FANTASY ZONE TIME TO GO VRRRROOOOOOMMM!!!
The Alfheims really teach you to play correctly. But for people having trouble dodging in the game, I think one of the problems is the urge to use your eyes to catch everything while attacking. That doesn't seem work with the game. I'm probably a wuss, but I've settled on a dodge-dodge-combo attack-cancel dodge-WT-repeat pattern. It seems a healthy amount of enemies will choose the middle of your combo to counter, which makes it a perfect time to dodge for WT. Also, audio cues help a lot. Lots of enemies have audible growls or *shnicks* when they're about to attack, that's usually when I dodge away.
But yeah... after fighting
Grace and Glory
in an Alfheim with only one health left, I REALLY picked up on how to best kill them...

Yeah Morninglord, you're just crazy.
Shadow remains cast when you say yes, something something she's dead when you say no.
On a more awful note: my 360 is experiencing Error Code 74... which means sometimes it doesn't turn on, and when it does after about 3 minutes it puts these awful vertical scan lines on the screen and I can barely see. It is terrible and I may have to send it in for repairs. And I'm like one level from the end!
So it's not insano damage like a certain combination but Durgas charged lightning does as much/more damage than a wicked weave attack and comes out fast enough it's safe to chain a whole weave combo in or out of witch time.

Oh really, dammit. My memory is not the best I coulda sworn it was the other way.
Fine you dream spoilers have it your way.
Anyway.
You know what is fantastic? Stick durga claws on your feet (electric), odette and claws on the other set and do punch, punch, punch, punch, mash kick and weapon switch.
She has a unique animation, goes completely nuts like a little ball of claws and ice skates and fury and finishes it all with an overhead somersault ice kick.
Incidentally, that "game breaking" combo has it's own unique animation. She actually does fire off the extra rockets at the end of the kick. There's about four or five of them and it's this that does the massive damage at the end of the combo. If you do a rocket kick without weapon switching she only fires off one at that point. I did it in the practise mode and you can see a bunch of missiles fire off versus just one.
I'm know I got this right because I just tested it so Im not relying on memory this time.
Oh and skates work on fire. I love these things. This game is fantastic. I keep finding awesome new shit.

The more I play this game, the more I think anyone who complains about the controls is insane. Everything fits perfectly. The only moves I've ever had trouble doing are the batmorph (It seems to be more of an insurance move to let you negate damage if you're a bit slow on a dodge, than something that you can actually use intentionally... I held off on buying it for awhile because I couldn't even get it to work in the try-before-you-buy) and those moves you have to do right as you finish up a dodge.
Everything else is spot on. I have no trouble remembering and executing my favorite combos, or having combos flow into each other, or adding in the special moves like the stiletto and breakdance when appropriate.
